kron four's rob nesbitt is working on that story. he'll have more coming up on kron. 4 news at 5 o'clock in the east bay, the oakland school for the arts will be closed this week. the school issued a statement saying it's because of a staff shortage as a result of quarantines. adding we are unable to continue to provide person to person instruction to students and need to institute an emergency school closure for the remainder of the week. the school says changes to state law prohibits them from offering remote learning students will be assigned work to do online during the closure. the school is planning to reopen next week. stanford is reporting 800 new covid cases as a post holiday covid outbreak continues to grow nearly 500 students, more than 300, 50 staffers have tested positive. 600 students are isolating in student housing winter quarter. classes at stanford are now online. in-person classes will resume next tuesday, january 18th testing is required before returning to campus university officials believe the surge will contin

i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. thank you, rob. another big story we're following for you tonight. nearly 4,000 kaiser patients might have been given slightly less than the recommended dose of their covid vaccinations last fall. a kaiser permanente's walnut creek medical center. kaiser is now contacting roughly 3900 people who got a pfizer vaccine east of vaccine dose between october 25th and december 10th patients may have received about 0, 1, and 0, 4, mililiters less than the recommended dose. that's not considered likely to result in reduce protection against covid. but kaiser says it's offering an additional pfizer vaccine dose to those who are affected. >> well, covid case rates are continuing to soar across the country. doctors say we are close here to seeing a peak craig forcefully to call spoke with an infectious disease specialist who expects case rates to drop significantly in the coming weeks. >> instead of seen this, you know, we're seeing more of this infectious disease specialist doctor mike lee. homer says internal data shows covid-19 case rates may be cresting and

rob nesbitt joins us now live with more on the updated testing guidelines. rob. can last week san francisco broke a record testing more than 17,000 people in one day. >> an impressive number. the city says it can do more if hospitals pitch in. with more tests come more positive cases. director of health in san francisco, doctor grant colfax gave an update tuesday on the city's record breaking numbers. and right now. >> nearly one in 5 positive. the san francisco department of public health along with mayor london breed's office will now require large health care providers to help administer tests to minimize the surge in omicron cases, health department to shoulder on the basque burden of the of this testing. and so as we learn to live with this virus has a testing on demand absence laws. we need to make sure that everybody is doing their part if hospitals and hospital affiliated systems don't show proof of providing tests for patients who are symptomatic or who are close contact with someone who has tested positive. they'll face fines of up to $10,000 per day. g
