after we have the fundamental work, i went to berkeley, and that was nci funding. it took sloan-kettering to usher this work into the clinic. and i returned to the anderson about eight years ago to expand it. it is fundamental research i was doing. every now and then, venturing out from the fundamental work, learning something in going back to fundamental biology, venturing out. the most critical work we were doing was in melanoma. when we started doing this work, when the drug was approved in 2011, the immediate survival after diet uses seven months. 3% of patients survived five years. the report that came out this month is six and a half years for follow-ups. that is 58%. 58% of melanoma patients are alive six and a half years after they were treated. we are trying to extend that to other cancers. we have a ways to go. i think as we go back and combine some of the more classical ways of treating cancer, and away we don't hurt the immune system, i think we will be able to get not just response rates, but the cures. when i say six and a half years, that is just fol
