the white house last week hosted the first tribal nations conference at the white house since 2016. were you part of that? guest: i was part of the opening. i was invited by the biden administration, the white house, to provide opening remarks. it was exciting. i spent the week prior in scotland working on climate policy, so i was still somewhat jetlagged but happy to join everyone and be part of the opening. host: what were some of the key issues discussed at the conference? guest: improving the relationship between tribal nations and the united states. the biden administration has responded to that. through the eight years of the white house conference, we are able to meet with the president of the united states during the obama years. they renamed this from the white house conference to the summit to recognize the nation status of tribal nations. one of the policies we worked on was strengthening the government to government relationship. i was reflective of their commitment to continue to improve that relationship. we also made an announcement around treaty rights, around recogn

and why do you think the white house wants to drive up these prices? mr. bryce: well, sir, i can only speculate. but what i do know, when you look across the country, and particularly in california, and other places where this electrify everything push is under way, you're forcing -- you're imposing regressive taxation on the working class, on people who don't live, as jennifer hernandez said, in the keyboard economy. the people that have to drive to work. the people that pump the gas, who pour the coffee, who serve the food, those will be hit the hardest. as you point out in rural america, those are the people that will be hit hard. on the electrify everything push, in the federal register, the department of energy published data showing that the cost of electricity on a per b.t.u. basis is four times that of natural gas. so this push to electrify everything that is under way in california is just a form of regressive taxation. by prohibiting the use of natural gas in homes, in businesses, and forcing consumers to use electricity instead, you're effective

and, of course, if the party and the president in the white house is not popular, they can be quite bad, some simple notes from the past, really only three times since the civil war where the party in the white house has gained seats. that was in 1934 before we had polling, 1998 and 2002. there in those races president clinton, president bush, 60% or over approval rating, very, very popular, gained a handful of indications, in the other cases, something like 34, they have lost seats and sometimes very large margins when you have lost many, many seats. it's true also in the state legislatures where that pattern falls almost exactly, two of those elections have gone for the president in the white house. so i think the obvious point is, with close margin, it's hard to see midterm elections going well for democrats. if the word terrifying is used. what does joe biden look like next year in 2022, that's what i say about the governors and michael about the senate, certainly about the races where if joe biden is where he was today or last week where democrats had a roughly 12% move against
