all of us live in this country. all of us have a fundamental right to vote. and if that vote -- if that right to vote goes away for any segment of us, then it means the others don't have a democracy either. so it's important now for all people to take some action to force the united states senate to come to grips with the fact that we're going to have to enact some measures to protect the vote. and to the extent that the filibuster impedes the senate's ability to deal with this threat to our vote, then that filibuster has to go. so it's a racist origin and it's been used for racial purposes to deny black people our civil rights. it's something that has to go away as far as constitutional issues like voting rights are concerned. they've done it for issues like the budget. they've abandoned the filibuster when it comes to judicial appointments. and those measures don't have to go through that 60-vote threshold requirement and voting rights is something that doesn't need to be going through it either. >> congressman, good to see you. thank you for joining us. de

and courtney kube is joining us now. we had statements from the president, from the secretary of state, you know, all these statements congratulating themselves, but they have not done this speedily. it has been years for some of these trance laters. you have 200 people landing safely, thousands more and their families in backlog. and they have been told that they have to get safely themselves to the capital of kabul through all kinds of taliban checkpoints before they can, you know, even if they qualify. >> yeah. and you've laid out the big challenges. bureaucratic backlog that exists to get through the special process for these individuals. and once approved, then they face this very dangerous jur any in many cases to get to kabul and then to get here to the united states. so as you well know, as you mentioned, about 200 afghans arrived early this morning here in the u.s. they were taken to ft. lee and arrived there early this morning. but that is just a very small number. there are -- they are a part of a group of 700

kelly o'donnell is joining us about this. just this week the governors of california and nevada issued a plea for more resources. what do we expect to hear today? >> part of what is notable is that this is a cross section of governors from the west including bipartisan governors. montana, oregon, idaho. all of the places you expect. they are trying to have a kpoel whole of government approach in a way that is accessible to these governors and they have additional focus on things like fiery distance and extreme heat. having some working groups among the existing federal organization to target thosed kind of climate related issues. so this meeting is a chance for the president that will be gone at the executive office building where they will hear from these governors, get specifics about what they need, and troo to -- try to provide some resources. they are trying to track the issues, where is extreme testimony a factor and what federal resources can be brought to bear. this is enormously costly in lives, resources, structures

, particularly because of that, it is disappointing to see us at that standstill which is what got us in this place. the mask mandates we're talking about. a couple of things changed. when cdc dropped the mask mandate indoor and outdoor, the concerned was unvaccinated will also drop their mask with the vaccinated, and that's what happened in the setting of more transmissible variant. i think the advantage of the mandates in areas with high transmission is clear. i think you'll see this additional measure, particularly indoors, seeing increased transmission bringing cases down. are they active in places where transmissions are over 100 for over 100,000 area, which they call high transmission areas, that's the greatest benefit. added to that, that's the area that cdc thinks even though rates, chances of a person vaccinated transmitting onward is low, in a community where there's a lot of virus, vaccinated and unvaccinated, you come across someone that may have the infection, slight break through cases which could potentially lead to increase in transmissions. it is another step. i think

monica is at the white house for us. josh is talking to washington dc workers affected by this, and i want to bring in a doctor who is a senior scholar at john hop kins. in just a few hours they announce a federal vaccine requirement. what more do we know about this? >> they are laying out essentially a choice for more than two million federal workers. they will have to prove they are fully vaccinated to go to work or submit to what the white house is calling rigorous testing. we don't really know the details of what that kmoent means. will it be weekly? on site? it is expected that we will get all of this. it will be modelled after the local level. this is the choice that you have and here is the time frame you have to get vaccinated or you will have to social distance, potentially continue to wear those masks indoors where deemed appropriate. we're also getting a major overall update from the white house and the president as it relates to vaccinations. it was just about a month ago here on the south lawn and the presid
