something he's not used to doing. you're absolutely right, he can command his troops and keep this from happening if he really really wants to do that. but remember that mitch mcconnell also cares about winning a majority in the senate in 2022 and he has some vulnerable senators. and if they're on record as opposing infrastructure, all of those things that are popular in their states and popular with those voters as the poll showed, that's gonna be a bigger problem for him. so i don't think that he's gonna pull out all of the stops to kill this, and if it goes through, and it goes to the house, nancy pelosi's gonna sit on it and wait until we see that larger package happen. and one other big point which is you need all 50 democrats to get the second part of this package. you are not going to get the 50 unless there is a clear belief among the recalcitrance that they have done everything they can to get this bipartisan deal done. so they're real reasons to move that forward, to get the second piece of it which is the b

thanks for being with us today. we appreciate your reporting. >> joining me is a senior scholar at the bloomberg school of public health. dr. daljia, thank you for being with us. i want to start with this news from pfizer about the third possible booster shot of the vaccine. what do we know about the vaccine's efficacy after two doses, how long it lasts and what would this potential booster do? >> what we know so far is that our vaccines are holding up especially when it comes to what provides when it comes to disease and death. there's a different discussion for immunosuppressed populations, but for the general public the two-dose series do seem to be holding up. what we have to do is let time elapse and seem to me what the threshold would be is for fully vaccinated individuals getting breakthrough infections and landing them in a hospital and that's not happening at a high enough rate. i don't think that's something that we'll need a booster in the near-term. it's important to study them and it's important to have

kelly o'donnell is joining us about this. just this week the governors of california and nevada issued a plea for more resources. what do we expect to hear today? >> part of what is notable is that this is a cross section of governors from the west including bipartisan governors. montana, oregon, idaho. all of the places you expect. they are trying to have a kpoel whole of government approach in a way that is accessible to these governors and they have additional focus on things like fiery distance and extreme heat. having some working groups among the existing federal organization to target thosed kind of climate related issues. so this meeting is a chance for the president that will be gone at the executive office building where they will hear from these governors, get specifics about what they need, and troo to -- try to provide some resources. they are trying to track the issues, where is extreme testimony a factor and what federal resources can be brought to bear. this is enormously costly in lives, resources, structures

here is the deal if incentives help us beat this virus, i believe we should use them. we all benefit if we can get more people vaccinated. it's time to impose requirements on key groups to make sure they're vaccinated and, excuse me, just this week, we took an important step to protect our veterans. like many systems are doing the department of veterans affairs will now require covid-19 vaccines for doctors and nurses and other health care workers who provide medical care for our veterans. we must do everything possible to protect our veterans from getting covid when they come to get medical care they so richly earned serving their country. we owe them. next, since many vaccinations are required for active duty military today, i'm asking the defense department to look into how and when they will add covid-19 to the list of vaccinations our armed forces must get. our men and women in uniform who protect this country from grave threats should be protected as much as possible from getting covid-19. i think this is particularly important because our troops serve in places
