doctor, thank you for sharing part of your weekend with us. i want you to start with what you're seeing in the emergency room. you wrote an op ed for cnn and in it you say in part, quote, the patients i see frightened and struggling to breathe are mostly in their 30s, 40s and 50s. the one thing many of them have in common, they are all unvaccinated. doctor, i see all sorts of misinformation on social media but i wonder what you are hearing directly from people that you're treating about why they are unvaccinated. is it a lack of access or is it misinformation? >> thanks for having me. it's good to be here. you know, i hear it all. i don't think it's a lack of access, at least in the areas where i've been practicing in the emergency room. i think most of these patients have just been overloaded with information to the point that they can't make an educated decision. i've heard every myth there is about the vaccine turning you into a magnet, patients becoming infertile, having miscarriages. the vaccine causing the disease that it actually preven

what do you think that tells us? i think, as you said earlier, it's a window into the huge frustration that governments in countries that are lucky enough to have stocks of vaccine and the ability to put the vaccine into arms has so far fallen far short of the number of vaccinations that they wanted to administer, and they feel they need to administer. the other thing it reflects is quite frankly a new urgency, because there have been reports, even in the last 2a hours, based on an in—house assessment by the centers for disease prevention in the united states, suggesting this delta variant, the one that originated it india but is now prevalent pretty much all over the world, is not only more transmissible, it's much, much, much more transmissible than had been assumed. and it's also capable of infecting and being passed on by fully vaccinated people almost as easily as by those who have not been vaccinated. so i think there's a sense of the clock ticking, and i think that's what you're seeing. and i think we will s

the pfizer vaccine is authorized for use for children. there are studies going on right now in younger children 5 thereby 12 and clinical trials being done from six months to five years of age. pfizer is ahead of the curve in terms of they are working to complete those studies. the moderna vaccine is sort of on its heels. we hope to have the completed clinical trials by the end of the year. but we'll be looking at the science. it's hard to put a date on when science -- scientific studies will be completed. we are hoping to have data by the end of the year for those younger folks. frances: that's encouraging though it seems a long time away as well. are you hearing of any evidence of negative side effects for these younger groups? rebecca: no. those clinical trials are proceeding as we speak. we would not expect to see a different safety profile than what we saw in teens for example. we'll await for the results of the trial. frances: until we get this younger group vaccinated, we all interact with younger children, will we be able to reach
