tornados reported across the state, as well as parts of southern georgia. well now, the powerful storm is making its way towards the northeast. joining me, now, meteorologist, karen mcginnis. what are you seeing out there, karen? >> yes, this is very interesting, now, because elsa is now moving into high density. high population areas. along that i-95 corridor into the northeast. but what is interesting here is there is a lot of dry air intrusion. meaning, there is dry-edge air that's moved in across the southern and western edge. but this is moving so quickly, now. it's not poking along, like it was. moving at about 14 miles per hour. b but now, it's racing to the northeast at 25 miles an hour. it's position right now puts in a del mar peninsula so as it continues to move, now we are looking at areas from around philadelphia to new york city. eventually, towards boston and into down-east maine. and that's where we have got the highest risk of severe weather. . we could see two to four inches of rainfall, some isolated amounts, up to six inches of rainfall.

pride events are, still, controversial in georgia. a country led by a conservative government and powerful orthodox church. but violence against lgbtq communities has sparked an international outcry. the eu and u.s. government, condemning these attacks. >> we encourage all georgians, including georgian officials, to publicly condemn this type of violence that has no place in a democracy. >> for her part, georgia's president has also tweeted out her condolences to the family. and said those responsible must be punished. >> reuters news agency, meanwhile, is mourning the loss of one of its own. pulitzer-prize-winning journalist was killed while on assignment during clashes between the taliban and afghan-security forces. he was embedded with afghan special forces, when crossfire erupted. a senior-afghan officer was, also, killed. siddiqui had been a photo journalist for reuters, since 2010. and you can see here, some of the footage he shot just days before he was killed on friday. in a statement on his killing, reuters says it's urgently

vaccines are being thrown out here in the state of georgia, for example, for lack of demand. how frustrating is it to know those facts and know that so much of this is entirely preventable? >> it's so disheartening. as a human race and those of us in health care, we know that we have something that works extremely well, and yet people are hesitant. they're hesitant for a lot of reasons. they're hesitant because they don't trust the health care system. but we know that conversations with trusted people among people who are unvaccinated do work in helping them get over that hesitancy. but the other problem we have is a whole lot of misinformation being promulgated by political leaders, being promulgated by others over social media. that is causing a big concern. but ultimately for me, michael, what bothers me the most is that we can look across the world. we can look at the continent of africa. we can look at major locations in south america and asia, countries that really need the vaccine. they will not get the vaccine because it's very hard to get. yet here in the united stat

he was well known and liked and competed in georgia's pga section tournaments. the gunman is still on the loose. this man says he played golf with gene siller the day before he was killed. >> it didn't hit me until later, you know, that this happened at our country club. it was really -- still can't believe it. >> reporter: what happened is indeed difficult to believe, only made more incomprehensible because the situation is so strange. when police got to the scene, they looked in the truck, and they said in a written statement, two other deceased males were discovered in the bed of the pickup truck. both males suffered apparent gunshot wounds. one of the males was identified as paul pierson, the registered owner of the ram 3500. the other male has not yet been identified. this remains under investigation, and so far authorities are not releasing additional details about the investigation. but nearby kennesaw state university sent out an emergency alert this weekend, declaring the male suspect had been seen and that he has long hair, a white or tan shirt and dar

in fact here in atlanta, georgia where the cnn center is located, there was some kind of haze to the sky tonight with a nearly full moon. that coloring that you see on the tv screen is the smoke predicted into the weekend that will impact much of the southeastern u.s. even though the major metropolitan areas d.c., new york, boston should stay haze-trfree. 79 large active fires over the western u.s., today we have the potential for dry lightning taking in a and idaho. and so a red flag warning. we are getting much needed relief, but perhaps a bit too much too soon. and too quickly. because flash flood warnings are taking place including the maricopa county region where phoenix is located, they have had extremely heavy rainfall within the past six hours or so leading to localized flash flooding throughout the region. you can see the high resolution forecast lighting up like a christmas tree because there is a lot of rain in the forecast across the area thated for so l. when the ground is so dry, it doesn't have the ability to absorb the rain and so that is why we see the flash flooding

tornadoes were reported across the state as well as in parts of southern georgia. now the powerful storm is making its way into the northeast and joining me now to talk about that is karen mcginnmaginnis. >> yes, the system is beginning to pull away from the dpeninsul. and you can see the heavier precipitation is along the northern edge which is pushing through into new york city. starting to pick up more of that precipitation. and here is the good thing about elsa. it is moving to the northeast at about 25 miles per hour. it has winds associated with it at 50 miles per hour. now, earlier in the day previous 24 hours, we were looking at 40-mile-per-hour winds. so it was barely a tropical storm intensity. but now where you see the blue all the way from salisbury to atlantic city, new york, nantucket and boston, tropical storm warnings in effect and it looks like 2 to 4 inches of rain will be common, some isolated areas could see 6 inches. so a flash flooding threat. and these high density population areas. it will trek through the northeast, move into regions right

there is one fatality in jacksonville and in coastal georgia, ten reports of injuries, most considered minor. right now tropical storm elsa, 45-mile-per-hour winds. doesn't sound like it is very significant, but just wait. this is doing to have legs. it will move up towards the mid-atlantic. eventually on towards the cape region and chesapeake bay area. and then towards the delaware bay area. eventually into new england. and still could see potential for flooding, even an isolated tornado as some of the bands with this will usher in some gusty winds as well. the flash flood threat all the way from wilmington, north carolina right around myrtle beach, then to richmond, that comes up for thursday going into thursday evening. and then philadelphia, new york city, long island, and eventually towards cape cod and for boston with some gusty winds there, localized flooding, maybe some beach erosion certainly possible. and then we may see an increase in intensity going into friday morning, so be aware of that if you are trying to head home, get away from work. it will be a little treacherous a
