georgia's ra fell warnock at a senate hearing in georgia. senate democrats today took their push for voting rights legislation to the state that was ground zero for voting restrictions inspired by donald trump's big lie of a stolen election, hearing from people affected by georgia's sweeping new voting law. as "the new york times" reports, their real aim is to sway a debate more than 500 miles away in washington where democrats are trying to revive a stalled elections overhaul in the senate to make it easier to vote and offset many of the changes republicans have pushed through in states like georgia. joining us now is blit cal reporter for the atlanta constitution. good to see you, greg. i will start with you. you were at the hearings today. what was the energy like in the room? i know republicans didn't even attend, but was it people mostly giving testimonials, was it people giving suggestions for improvement? what did we actually hear at the hearings today in atlanta? >> yeah, as you mentioned republicans essentially boycotted the hearing

in georgia, obviously the justice department is suing georgia because of what's happened there. the severity of that bill. so, this is something that is not just texas. there are 14 other states that passed bills that keep people from getting to the ballot box in the way they could two years ago. >> i hear you. this is not just texas, what's going on right now. i will say in your state, this new version of sb-1 and hr-3, these bills, do take out some of the things that many of your fellow democrats saw as the most egregious in terms of restricting voting, right? it takes away -- you no longer have that provision that would limit sunday voting. and it also strips away the process that made it easier for a judge to overturn the results of an election without as high a threshold or proof. what is it specifically that you oppose in these two bills now? >> i can tell you this. when the justice department sued georgia, those came right out. that's what i'm saying. still a bad bill because, first of all, we had 24-hour voting in 2020, and that allowed people who work late, who work oth

the laws that were put on the books in georgia this year that were being voted on in georgia would basically make parity with what colorado already has on the books. this is the kind of debate we want to be able to have can we just agree, get a whiteboard up, put the facts up, of what these things are, what these bills are, what the laws are? then at least be debating from the same sheet of music? i have a few more things to say. i have some colleagues here that i want to be mindful of their time. i just -- my floor time, i digressed there a little bit because i was hearing my colleagues on the other side of the aisle but election integrity is critically important right now. i have colleagues from texas who are completely abandoning their duty, state legislature colleagues, to be clear, who are abandoning their duty to represent their constituents in the state of texas and have a full-throated debate about the current bills in the essential legislative session in texas and have come to d.c. they are not doing their job. i generally want to flee d.c. to go back to texas. it's rare i'd be sayi

in georgia, anyone can vote absentee, you are right. in delaware, no. you got to give them an excuse that meets a specific report. in georgia, drop boxes for absentee ballots are available at county election offices a all over the state. it's mandated. delaware has zero drop boxes for absentee ballots. both states require voter i.d. joe never lifted a finger to make voting more accessible and delaware and it's not just delaware. wisconsin requires voter i.d., rhode island requires photo i.d. hawaii you actually have your date of birth and address. residents who don't vote regularly can be automatically canceled from the voter rolls. minnesota, voters must meet certain requirements in order to vote absentee unlike georgia. none of these deep blue states are facing a lawsuit from this now emboldened and weaponized day of joe biden, not one. clearly the leftist theory over georgia has nothing to do with civil rights. it's beyond hyperbole and destructive, they are playing the race card. this is the worst challenge to our democracy since the civil war. real
