donny, this all comes up around the all-star game moving out of atlanta. pressure puppet put on companies like delta and coca-cola. so what's your sense of where corporations are right now? did they get it right in the case of georgia and how active should they be in these political debates where mitch mcconnell has said they ought to stay out of them? >> corporations have no choice at this rate. frankly, if they had their way, they would be agnostic. they have one god that they answer to at the end of the day, and that's the shareholders and that's the profit. i don't mean to sound cold and callus, but that's what they are. having said that, the right business for them now is to be on the right side of these arguments. they can no longer stay on the sidelines, particularly young consumers demand that of companies now. in all research, you see to talk about corporate conscience. now, when you think about that, most companies, if you look at their marketing plans, the audience they're going after, they're not going after old geezers like me. marketing plans

. >> with me right now is nbc's deepa shivaram in atlanta. what else did governor kemp have to say in his attempts to defend this law? >> reporter: that's right, lindsey, governor kemp there saying that he feels like he's being silenced as he stands in front of a podium right over there speaking about how he is doubling down on his position, defending this bill that he signed just a little over a week ago. republican talking points are that this bill expands voting measures, but what we know is that there are a number of aspects of this bill that make it really difficult for people to cast a ballot and particularly black voters, voters of color, people in poorer communities. i'll give you just one example. especially during this pandemic, we saw a lot of folks wanting to cast their ballot and put it in a ballot box, right, drop it off in one of those drop boxes. they didn't want to have to stand in line, show up in-person, trying to social distance and keep healthy and safe. now those ballot boxes are limited significantly. there's only one i

after the major league baseball pulled just this last week, their all-star game, from atlanta and moved it to colorado because of that georgia voting law that was passed here this last month, there are now five lawsuits pending against the state of georgia over its voter election law. but while that litigation is pending, there are other states here that continue this spring, to continue to work through their own legislatures to pass other types of measures. just go from east to west, from florida this week who is working on several different measures, including one in which the sponsor, the republican sponsor of the legislation said that it would -- this piece of legislation would bar individuals from trying to influence voters within 150 feet of the voting entrance. and that could include much like georgia, barring folks from delivering water or food. but then you also move to texas, just again this week, one of the committees in the statehouse passing house bill 6, which would bar local officials from sending out absentee ballot applications to residents. and then move over to arizon
