steve osunsami is at the cdc in atlanta with that. welcome back, steve. >> reporter: good morning, to you, michael. in december then president-elect joe biden promised 100 million vaccines into the arms of 100 million americans within his first 100 days and this morning he has more than done that with 200 million shots in arms and still more than a week before his 100th day. the number of people, however, who are coming in to get the vaccine is slightly down this week across america. the government keeps daily averages and tells us that the average this week for vaccinations is about 3 million shots a day, but the week before that average was 3.35 million shots a day. the cdc says that this seven-day average started dropping a week ago and they underline that this drop in vaccinations started a day before the government announced the pause that was being put on the johnson & johnson vaccine because of rare blood clots that raised safety concerns. they say there are a number of possible reasons for this drop, but high among them, they

steve osunsami is at cdc headquarters in atlanta. good morning, steve. >> reporter: good morning to you, george. the panel meeting today could make a number of different recommendations. one of them is to keep things the way they are, to maintain the hold on using the johnson & johnson vaccine or they could join health officials in europe who have cleared the vaccine for use but are putting a safety warning on the medicine. a panel of experts put together by the cdc is expected to decide whether people should keep using the single dose johnson & johnson covid vaccine. it's a key tool in ending the pandemic, but u.s. health officials put use of the vaccine on hold last week when six women got sick with rare blood clots after getting the shot and this morning, the cdc says it's investigating a handful of new cases. earlier this morning george spoke to the director of the national institutes of health about what he expects from the announcement today. >> i know you don't want to get into the cdc advisory panel but just give us your thou

the atlanta braves covered up the patch on their uniforms. the new law, for example, prevents anyone but a poll water from handing out water or food to voters waiting in those notoriously long lines with communities with larger black and browning populations and moves the drop boxes from outside to inside early voting locations. they're no longer available 24/7. georgia's governor accuses baseball of caving to fear. >> it means cancel culture and partisan activists are coming for your business. they're coming for your game or event in your hometown. >> reporter: the governor of georgia also points out that this law actually expands early voting. for example, there are now more days of early voting in this state than in the state of new york. this has put democrats in a tough position, supporting the businesses that are taking a stand, but also disappointed in the money lost. losing the all-star game alone could cost this state, t.j., close to $100 million. that's by some estimates, t.j. >> wow. steve osunsami for us, thank you. >>> we want to
