With the recent discovery that over 400 illegal aliens were registered to vote in Illinois elections, Republicans are calling for a review of the process and a suspension of the "same day" voting registrations. Congressman Rodney Davis (R) joined with state House lawmakers in saying that previous assurances that the voting registration process protected against having non-citizens voting, were clearly wrong.
The Secretary of State's office said a software glitch was to blame for non-citizens being allowed to register to vote, but the Republicans say a thorough review is needed to ensure the integrity of elections is protected. They note this does not preclude anyone from registering to vote, but would halt the registration of voters on election day, until a full review of the process is completed.
