since super bowl sunday. >> the state says you stole more than $20,000 from taxpayers. that's your middle finger. that's not nice. >> remember this woman? last year a news 6 investigation revealed how she was scamming the welfare system. now a jury is getting results and she is going to jail. >> good evening, everyone. this is news 6 at 7:00, getting results. i'm ginger gadsden. >> i'm julie broughton. >> i'm lisa bell. also there is a new push to keep women safe at nightclubs. we'll have more on that, coming up. >> but first, we start with two breaking stories. news 6 has learned a 41-year-old teacher has been arrested and is on his way to jail. marshall young is accused of having sex with a student in a classroom. the 17-year-old says it started when he contacted her on an adult website last year. he says she was once his teacher. according to a school web page,

cross-country there. we will have any new information on this story at 11:00. >> also breaking right now, sky 6 was just over a huge fire burning at a scrap yard in cocoa. take a look. this is on citgo road west of u.s. 1. sky 6 spotted smoke pouring into the sky a short time ago. if you were in the area, you probably saw the big plume of smoke as well. we do not know yet if anyone was hurt or what started this fire. as soon as we learn more, we'll keep you posted. >> a 5th day of searching for a missing newborn goes under water. a dive team took to the waters to search for the baby known as baby willow. >> investigators decided to search this pond today because friends say the mother used to walk by here all the time. she lives over there and she used to hang out at this convenience store.

today as they searched for any sign of the newborn. sky 6 flew over the dive team soon after they started searching the small retention pond off silver star road at 9:00 this morning. from the ground, you can see a team of divers walking around the edge of the pond. they stopped every few feet or so when they felt something at the bottom. they pulled up lots of garbage, tree stumps and grocery bags. willow. >> too many people can't have children. they looking to get children and can't get them. just give the child to somebody. you ain't got to kill them. >> i'm thinking this baby is not in this lake. >> she spoke to the baby's mother, susan richardson, a few weeks ago while she was panhandling outside of a convenience store next door. she was worried then about what richardson may do with the baby once it was born. >> what do you think happened? >> i don't think. i think she panicked.

somebody had to be there with her to have that baby. she couldn't have did it by herself. >> they're going to plan their next steps tonight or sometime over the weekend in search of the baby. they're holding out hope the baby is still alive. if you know anybody who may have this child, you're urged to contact police immediately. we're in orlando tonight, eric sandoval, news 6. >> now tonight the dive team tells news 6 they will drain the retention pond sometime over the weekend. >> tonight a 15-year-old accused of running down an orange county deputy is still on the run. >> with good news, that deputy was released from the hospital just a short time ago. evidence markers show where orange county sergeant marcy pierce was thrown after deputies say 15-year-old ortiz hit her with his car on purpose and then sped off. orange county sheriff jerry demings said sergeant pierce was at the home on high street to arrest ortiz on a burglary warrant.

face charges of attempted murder on a law enforcement officer. deputies say the teen was arrested last october for attacking another officer. >> new information on a double murder that's gone unsolved since super bowl sunday. tonight family members of the murdered brothers are pleading for your help. >> as painful as it is right now, the hardest of all is accepting the fact that they were murdered. they were murdered. >> 34-year-old antonio and 16-year-old christian jones were gunned down while on their way to a super bowl party at the stone bridge reserve in metro west. orlando police say the brothersing got -- brothers got off the elevator on the third floor when they were shot. >> at least we'll have peace of mind that somebody, somewhere is locked up for the crime that they have committed. >> the family describes

with a full life ahead of him. antonio who went by the nickname shea leaves behind two young children. if you have any information, call the crime line at 1-800-423-tips. >> new at 7:00, orlando police are teaming up with an advocacy group to get results and help prevent people from being sexually attacked at nightclubs. news 6 reporter amanda castro was at today's reveal of their new awareness campaign. >> you'll soon start to see posters like this in downtown orlando bars. it's part of a new sexual violence awareness campaign that encourages everyone to have fund while out on the town and be safe and keep out lookout for each other. >> let's watch each other's back. >> that's the message behind a new initiative aimed at people who enjoy orlando's night life. they're teaming up with orlando police on the sexual violence awareness campaign. he says sexual assaults are on the rise. in many cases, it happens

that's why he says they went to the bars and nightclubs to make it a community effort to prevent sexual violence. >> having a poster available in the establishment to know you can look out for your friends and one another. if you see something that doesn't look right, then, you know, call on us, call o.p.d. right away. the posters will go up in bathrooms and hallways inside the bars. on it, the phone number to the 24-hour crisis hotline. the campaign is also training bar staff to be more aware of their customers. >> we want them to have fun and be safe. we don't think those things need to be mutually exclusive. >> preventing people from becoming victimized. knowing you're a victim, you can get help with one phone call. >> let's start looking out for one another and put an end to violence in our community. this is a great starting point, engaging everybody, businesses

know they can be part of solution. >> thank you. officers are starting the campaign in downtown and hope to grow the program out toward ucf and other areas where there's a lot of nightclubs and bars. >> a news 6 investigation is getting results. prosecutors say a central florida woman stole your money so she could send her kids to daycare. tonight a jury has spoken. now she is locked up in jail. mike deforest is here with an update on his emmy award-winning investigation into welfare fraud. this woman hurt a lot of people. >> according to state investigators, candace neil stole from you and me and them in the process, other parents with jobs were unable to send their kids to daycare. >> the state says you stole more than $20,000 from taxpayers. that's your middle finger. that's not nice. >> this was candace neil's response last year when we asked the unemployed woman about why she allegedly lied about having a job to get state money to send

today after a judge sentenced her to jail for welfare fraud, she repeated the gesture. a jury found neil guilty of stealing state money meant to help working families with jobs afford child care. on this application, neil claims she was employed at the itty bitty learning center by the facility's owner says neil has never worked there. the state proved neil submitted falsified pay stubs in order to obtain more than $20,000 in childcare subsidy. she was unemployed at the time according to prosecutors. >> it's not clear what she was doing while her four kids were in the daycare center, but apparently nothing productive. >> i just want to say i know what i did was wrong. i do accept full responsibility. >> your kids got benefits the jury determined they were not entitled to get. which means other people did not get these benefits. >> the judge sentenced neil to

while on probation she has to pay $100 a month until her $20,000 debt to the state is repaid. >> there is a limited amount of funding available for school readiness programs and there are thousands of kids out there on a waiting list hoping to get some of that money. when somebody steals it, other families loses out. >> it was the families she was hurting. what is the state doing to stop fraud like this from happening. >> it is a big problem and they have offices throughout the state dedicated to investigating public assistant fraud. in this case, they discovered candace neil was taking money for working families at the same time she was collecting unemployment benefits. they cross-referenced databases and found she took from both and that prompted the investigation. >> double dipping. mike deforest, great work. thank you for that. >> no doubt race fans are hoping for postcard perfect weather this weekend, especially for the daytona 500.

pinpointing what to expect. >> chief meteorologist tom sorrells has been saying it all week. the weather for speed week and into this weekend for the big daytona 500 is looking spectacular. let's pinpoint both saturday and sunday for all the folks heading out there for this weekend. for saturday, throughout the early morning hours, temperatures should stay in the low 60's as the gates open and warming up only into the upper 60's, low 70's. a mix of sun and clouds for your saturday. picture-perfect conditions as you head to sunday for the big daytona 500 as it starts in the afternoon. temperatures will continue to warm up to about 70 degrees throughout the afternoon and it looks like temperatures could top off about 71 to even 72, but plenty of sunshine. make sure to have the sunglasses with you as you head out to daytona international speedway. >> not a shabby forecast at all. >> chief meteorologist tom sorrells will be here to pinpoint the weekend weather where you live in minutes. >> plus seaworld is moving forward with a new plan to

up who have paid $250,000 apiece. the new spaceship will not be taking them up just yet. >> virgin says it has a lot of ground testing to do before they get spaceshiptwo into the skies. >> the company has made many changes to make it safer. the first spaceshiptwo crashed and broke apart in late 2014, an accident that killed one of its pilots. human error was to blame. like the predecessor, the new spaceship will be carried into the air by a giant plane and dropped. from there, it will launch its engines and take people up 62 miles above the ground, the fringes of outer space. no word on when tourist flights will begin. >> meanwhile, astronauts on board the international space station are taking out the trash. today commander scott kelly used a robot arm to release a cargo craft docked at the station. it's expected to burn up somewhere over the pacific tomorrow.

delayed earlier this month when mold was found on a cargo bag. >> the launch was rescheduled for early march at the cape. >> tonight seaworld is moving forward with plans to add resorts to its parks here and around the country. seaworld told investors in november it was evaluating its land for hotel opportunities. the orlando-based theme park chain announced it hired an experienced executive to lead the effort. hotels keep guests staying longer and so do new attractions. look at that. seaworld showed off the lead car for its new mako hyper coaster. it will zip guests from 200 feet in the air at speeds topping 70 miles per hour and the only person sitting at this desk and wants to go on this, a topic of contention here, mako opens at seaworld in orlando. >> we'll stand below and snap pictures. >> that's a deal. i'm in. >> this spring, disney says more

hollywood studios' theme park. >> disney announced today a daily stage show will start april 4th. at night, new high-tech fireworks and projection shows in a galaxy far, far away. disney says the epic "star wars" will be in september. disney is working on bringing in an elaborate "star wars" land to life at the park in a few years. insiders tell news 6 the first demolition work has begun backstage clearing for construction. no word when it will open. disney is hinting it will reveal new information this weekend. >> you're the only one who can name characters from all the shows. >> i'm sorry and sad for you two that you can't. >> i know the ewok and i have a dog that looks like an ewok. >> more than 100,000 race fans are packing speed week's event

overnight low this morning was 51. they've now bumped our daytime high up to 75 degrees at o.i.a. that is normal for this time of year for the daytime high. so it was a picture-perfect kind of day, a 10 almost. yeah, gorgeous. on-the-town forecast, going to carry us through the 60's into the night. right now, we're at 64 degrees in orlando. 67 in melbourne. ocala holding in at 63. the sorrells scale for tomorrow, i think you know where we're going with this. it's actually not only tomorrow. it was today. it's tomorrow and it's sunday. it's a beautiful 10 all the way around. everything is good to go. here's why. look at the water vapor loop. see this orange? all the rust color? that's all dry air. are you answering me, ginger? >> you say we don't listen. >> uh-huh i hear from the corner. this is dry air, all this is dry air from new orleans to jacksonville to orlando. it's going to stay in place

the day tomorrow. we're going to have just enough coolness tonight that we get fog tomorrow morning. the flavor of the weekend is it's warm. here's the overnight at 2 a.m. this is 2 in the afternoon. a little bit of broken cloud cover coming in from the coast. that's all she wrote. things are going to be great throughout the day tomorrow and throughout the day on sunday. so overnight lows, here they are. 47 in ocala. cool enough for patchy fog. 52 in leesburg. fog there, too. sanford, 52. the official forecast in orlando, it is beautiful right now. we go partly cloudy by around midnight or 1:00 in the morning, just before sunrise, patchy fog. and then tomorrow, well, here it is. it looks fantastic tomorrow. 57 degrees at 8 a.m. by noon tomorrow, 69. the daytime high, right back to where we were today, about 75 degrees. sunday, pump it up just a little more to 77. that 77 degrees is in orlando, about 74 for race day sunday in
