>> we're never more than seven minutes away from weather and traffic. here is bill evans with the accuweather forecast. >> march 10th! we have warm weather again on tap. yesterday's high was 77 degrees. today's high, 78 degrees. a spring fling continues today. now, you see on the seven-day forecast there, is rain for tonight. well, that will be on the evening hours, today, really nice. another record high will break the record of 74 set back in 2006 and then tonight with the rain coming in, cooler air from the northwest but it is 63 for friday, saturday, 62 on sunday. those pers are over 15 degrees warmer than normal for this time of the year. we'll talk more about that in the weekend forecast coming up in a moment. weather and traffic together every seven minutes. heather has the day off.
no problems to report at this point. e train is back or clez. still have fast track work on the d and f. george, lincoln and holland overnight construction, it is just wrapping up and the roadway in jersey city, construction continues, going going to the patrick road. alternative night side parking rules are in e. >> thank you. we have breaking news in pennsylvania where five are dead and three hurt after gunfire erupted ate backyard party. it happened in wilkinsburg, that is just outside of pittsburgh. four women and a man were killed. another woman is hurt. it does not look like anyone at the party fired back at the gunman. a neighbor heard more than 20 gunshots police are searching for the shooters.
out of brooklyn, a night at the park turns violent after two men were attacked just minutes apart. one was slashed. the other stabbed. eyewitness news reporter darla miles is live in prospect park with details on the man police darla? >> yes, the crime scene just wrapping up a few hours ago, one victim slashed in the hand. the other stabbed in the stomach, all of this starting at pack. the first incident was on a walking path. a suspect tried to rob a 30-year-old man. that man was able to fight him off but was slashed in the hand in the process. then there was a second incident. the same suspect stabbed a 43-year-old man in the stomach and stole his wallet. the suspect ran away but a 2-year-old man was arrested not long afterwards. his name has not yet been released.
both victims taken to kings county hospital. reporting live in park slope, darla miles, channel seven, eyewitness news. 4:34 is our time right now. new jersey transit and rail workers union will meet again today in hopes they can hash out a deal and avoid a strike. mallory is live with what both sides are working with today. >>reporter: riders would say hopefully a deal. they will be here in newark to see what they can work out. riders don't know how to will play out but remain hopeful. >> lock it up, get it signed, let's keep it moving. >>reporter: that is the union's hope as they sit at the negotiation table. hammer out a deal and avoid a sunday morning strike. >> we want to make sure the numbers you're proposing are accurate in every degree. >>reporter: the unions and new jersey transit will review the counter proposals. if things are moving in a

. 4:41. pothole problems have no limits in the five burroughs. ask the hundreds of people who had to wait until this morning to fly out of laguardia airport. an eight-foot hole opened up on the three, on run way three. it has been repaired. it did wreck the plans of hundreds of air travellers. hundreds, dozens at least of planes were backed up for hours leading to delays for hundreds of people. passengers had to sit and wait and wait. >> it is 45 minutes, we're hanging around in the air. >> circling around. delayed on the ground for a little while in miami and air. >> i'll try to make it to yonkers.
buddy and make it to newark in the morning. >> the port authority is not sure how the pothole formed. the mayor of flint michigan says the city will suspend sending bills to the residents who can't drink the contaminated water. it will give them time receive the money. it will give $600 as a credit on their bills. a state of emergency is in effect right now in louisiana where thousands have been forced to evacuate their homes as flood waters rise. storms dumped as much as a foot of rain yesterday and more severe weather is expected to hit the south today. the louisiana national guard is working to help people in those flooded neighborhoods. why did the mini horses cross the road? it is a question pondered in south florida. they have a lot of time on their hands.

the winds are southwest and the pressure is right at 30, a mark of fair weather. 77, our record high. massmassapequa is at 60. the inland numbers -- the wind goes southwest and it keeps the coastal sections cooler because the water temperature in the atlantic is 41 degrees. we have this wind out of the southwest, so that keeps the inland areas warm it is a land breeze basically and you get to the wind coming across the atlantic and long island sound and makes the coastal sections cooler. we'll see that again today. also today, up to the north. there is a frontal boundary. there can be a couple of showers today in duchess, sullivan, orange county, but back to the west, this is the front that will bring us rain tonight and that gets here late. so today, we'll be in the 60s this morning, we'll cool down a

alternate side parking rules are in effect. back over to you. >> thank you. 4:48. a florida mom is in stable condition after getting shot, get this, by her 4-year-old son. a police officer spotted the car pulled over. the driver had been shot in the back by her own son with her own handgun. she is a gun advocate. she could face criminal charges for not properly securing the weapon. >> the florida statute is specific and it it does state that at adult household member or the child's guardian is responsible for taking all matures necessary to keep firearms out of the reach of young people. >> detectives have not been able to interview gilt and any decision will not come until after they can speak with her. a queen's community is coming together to mourn the
killed trying to break up a fight. sai a vigil was held last night outside martin party supply. he died after getting hit in the head by a man wielding a metal pipe. the fight started next door to his store over the weekend. surveillance video shows the shop owner going to break up the fight armed with a metal rod to defend himself. that is when one of the men attacked. >> trying to avoid a fight. he got involved and you know, he got caught at the wrong time by he came from guatemala. he has his own party store. now he lost everything. >> the man accused in the violent attack was arrested and charged. investigators say 21-year-old victor mendoza was blinded by a drunken rage and had no shop owner. a boston area chipotle set to reopen today two days after being shut down due to a norovirus scare. they closed their doors tuesday

patrick hole brook roads. alternative side parking rules are in effect. it is 4:55. police in jersey city are searching for a man who invaded a woman's home and raped her. he wore gloves so he didn't leave fingerprints as he went looking for an open door. he got into a building, looked for an open door inside a building, broke into a woman's home and attacked. police have thrown out much of the belongings of a homeless woman who was pushing around a car van of carts along manhattan's side. the carts were filled from everything from bottles to wood. she even had an air conditioner. city officials say sandra gonzalez's carts have been blocking sidewalks and causing traffic problems. she tells eyewitness news she collects things to sell. they're trying to convince her to give up the carts and move into a shelter. guns, drugs, jewelry and money were seized when police

during a backyard party at a home in wilkinsburg. it is just outside of pittsburgh. two men stormed the backyard and opened fire. four woman and a man were killed. it not look like anybody at the party were able to fire back at the gun men. a neighbor heard over 20 gunshots during attack. it is back to the bargaining table today in an effort to avoiding crippling strike by new jersey transit workers in three days. >> eyewitness news reporter mallory hoff is live in newark. has progress been made at this point? >>reporter: a little bit of progress. riders are hopeful about can the strike be avoided? that remains to be seen. if you look here, customers have been warned about the potential sunday strike but the union now saying it could be postponed. both sides took a break from negotiating yesterday to go over each other's counter proposals. the union says if there are

hearing from an eyewitness news. >> their street is always quiet. nothing but kids on the street to see that, it is new. it is shocking everyone else up here. i'm shaken. it is pretty bad. >> four women and one man were killed. two men are in critical condition. another woman is also in the hospital right now. police are searching for at least two gun men. it is 5:32. new this morning, police have caught the man behind two knife attacks in brooklyn. we've spoken with a concerned jogger. darla miles is live at the scene in prospect park. good morning. >>reporter: even though the suspect is in custody, that is of great concern to lots of joggers who are already out here. there were two people stabbed in prospect park. one slashed in the hand, the other in the stomach. the first incident happened around 11:30 last night on a walking path near lincoln road and east drive. police say that is when the suspect tried to rob a 30-year-old man.
able to fight the suspect off, butt slashed in the hand in the process. minutes later there was a second incident near park side and ocean avenues here. the same suspect stabbed a # 43-year-old man in the stomach and stole his wallet and ran away. a 26-year-old man was taken into custody. >> i'm very concerned. i've been in the park for about 33 years and i'm out here at 3, 4, now we don't want to do that anymore. we're coming in groups because we're afraid. it is not safe as it used . >> now, the suspect, his name has not been released, and the charges are pending in both incidents, both victims in this case were taken to kings county hospital. reporting live in park slope, darla miles, channel seven, eyewitness news. >> thank you. negotiators are back at the
