decrease in business and urging staff to get boosted. restaurants around the bay area are still struggling to recover from the impact of covid over the last 20 months and are bracing for another possible jolt as macron cases surge in the east baby snail bar in oakland posted on social media that it would be starting a planned winter break early because a staff member had been exposed to someone who tested positive for covid. the restaurant plans to reopen in january, the head of san francisco's golden gate restaurant association says restaurants face the potential hit of having to pay sick pay without federal reimbursement. even as they have to close their doors because of the potential exposure. there's a lot of businesses say if you have an outbreak, and you you need to close or if you have enough people sick that you just can't staff the restaurant and close which is more of what we're hearing, then the business itself. you know, it has to should pay the sick pay, but that's a cost. that's a cost that is. is on the businesses right now. the restaurant association has taken steps urging staff who are already

fully vaccinated to get boosted and sending out a newsletter detailing how and where staff can get those additional shots. we've told our staffs, and most of our board is pushing this as well, um you know, really everybody. that's that's restaurant staff, and certainly their families that are eligible should go ahead and get the booster shots. some restaurants around the bay area are already saying that they're seeing a slowing of business. that's coincided with the rise of the omicron variant and restaurateurs are asking the public to keep their neighbors safe and in business as this latest phase of covid takes aim at small businesses. we are asking if anybody wants to, you know, doesn't feel comfortable going to dine inside to please give their restaurant as much lead time is possible. like, hey , don't just don't just bail on the reservation right before it . let us know because that controls the staffing. and if we get cancelations, you know that night or no shows, god forbid. then we have that hurts our workers. restaurants are also reminding customers to get their own vaccinations and also reminding them that outdoor

dining might still be a possibility, even if some restaurants decided to restrict their indoor dining options. they say those outdoor options might still be an option, even if there's some wet or even rainy conditions in san francisco, christien kafton ktvu, fox two news well. health officials in warren county say the omicron variant may have caused a covid-19 outbreak in larks berg after a holiday party at a restaurant, according to the marin independent journal. at least 28 people tested positive for the coronavirus after a party on december 11th at farmhouse. everyone who attended that party was required to be vaccinated. so far, no one who attended the party has become seriously ill. it's no secret. december is by far the busiest time of year for the u. s postal service, with an estimated 2.3 billion pieces of mail, blink, greeting cards and packages being processed into delivered last week alone. fox's austin westfall took an inside look at a usps distribution hub in dulls virginia. there's only a couple days left to get those last minute gifts in the mail, and usps says that they've been

preparing for this peak holiday season since the beginning of this year. giddy up and go, buddy, where we're running, we're running. we're moving its constant motion, usps says they process and deliver more packages to homes than any other shipper during the holidays. and mail handler amos hewitt says the russian doesn't end at the holidays. that's because lots of people by and return items after the new year, so we're still busy in january february as well as march. hewitt works at the half a million square foot usps processing and distribution facility in dulles, virginia. one of the postal service's larger hubs in the nation facility usually handles about 100,000 packages a day. but during the holidays that increases by about 30% we do all the regular christmas cards and letters and bills and all that kind of stuff keeps moving all your first class mail. but the big surge this time of year really is the packages. usps says 20 twenties holiday season was bumpy. as covid caused

americans today that covid vaccines and boosters will help protect people against the omicron variant and promised to help improve access to them. along with more vaccination sites. he announced that the federal government will provide half a billion free at home coronavirus tests. oakland congresswoman barbara lee, his contracted a breakthrough case of the coronavirus. she received positive test result within the last few days. is now isolated at home, lee says she has mild cold like symptoms. the oakland city council today approved an emergency ordinance requiring proof of vaccination and almost all indoor public settings starting february 1st. and that includes restaurants, theaters, museums, gyms and senior centers , many cities and counties such as san francisco, berkeley and contra costa county. already

expected to vote in a special meeting on thursday on mayor breed strategy to address drug use and overdose deaths in the tenderloin. last week, the mayor declared a state of emergency. she wants police to crack down on drug dealers, as well as to connect addicts to services. san francisco district attorney chase a. boudin says more police will not solve the problem. he's calling for better drug treatment programs as well as more housing, education and jobs programs. boudin who is facing a recall election also addressed the spate of retail theft, saying. his office is charged every person arrested and in an op ed in the chronicle, boudin disputed that the criminal justice reform has led to more of these crimes, saying quote. preventing these crimes before they happen and ensuring long term public safety requires that instead of unilateral focus on law enforcement responses or rolling back reforms, we must shift our focus to supporting victims and addressing root causes of crime. today marks the

second day of jury deliberations in the elizabeth holmes case. the panel has now been weighing the fate of the theranos, founder for 15 hours, prosecutors along with homes and her attorneys briefly entered court toward the end of the day after the jury sent a note to the judge. jury members wanted to know if they could take the jury instructions home with them , the judge replied. no saying the jury instructions are part of deliberation, which must be done in the jury room. the panel will have the day off wednesday and return for day three of deliberations on thursday. today was the first full day of jury deliberations in the glen maxwell sex trafficking trial. the jury sent a note to the court earlier today asking for transcripts of testimonies from three of the four women. who testified they were sexually abused by jeffrey epstein. the jury received the case yesterday afternoon after prosecutors and maxwell's defense attorneys delivered closing arguments. the british socialite is accused of helping jeffery epstein's sexually abused teenage girls. if convicted on all six counts.n
