blocked on westbound 80 at the bridge in vallejo. this is due to police activity. no word on exactly what the police activity is about that you see there are no cars traveling on the left of your screen right now. they say to expect severe delays in that area right now, there is no estimated time to reopen the roadway. the chp is suggesting that you use alternate routes while this police activity continues. working to get additional information from authorities. and we will bring you any updates as soon as they come into our newsroom. >> a big story at 6.30, california lawmakers are set to consider a bill that would require all school children in the state be vaccinated for in-person learning regardless of their personal beliefs on force. capitol bureau reporter ashley zavala explains the effort and the push back on this proposal. >> vaccination is the cornerstone of ensuring our schools will be open. state senator richard pan rolling out his push to get rid of the personal belief exemption for

those who tried to opt out of california's covid-19 vaccine mandate for school children and is offering a bill that supporters say closes a loophole in the state's covid-19 vaccine requirement for students to learn in the classroom. the mandate was part of an executive order. governor newsom signed last year. those who don't comply would have to be home schooled or get independent instruction to be sure children are educated our schools. and that's really what this bill is about. keeping schools open and safe and providing that certainty. >> that that's going to happen. some school districts have tried to take similar steps on their own. courts have said they don't have the power to do so. but the legislature could. we're certainly hoping that the state legislation. >> i can can be passed fit in a quick manner. but fans proposal was met with immediate pushback from republicans monday. i think you'll see >> you know, bipartisan opposition, you know, to this proposal because a gross overreach, the new vaccine bill comes just days after some lawmakers filed the proposal allowing teams to get the covid-19 vaccine without

parental vaccine and schoolchildren related legislation has been at the center of intense parent. look, protests at the state capital, including this scene in 2019, the vice chair of the senate health committee expects to see this kind of reaction again. and they don't want the state government interfering. >> with their child's health care and interfering with their role as a parent, you know, deciding what is best for their child. governor newsom's office would not comment specifically on the legislation monday. this bill must first go through the state's legislative process. the soonest it could go into effect is january. 1st of 2023 at the state capitol. ashley zavala kron. 4 news. >> a record number of children across the state are being hospitalized with covid but not necessarily because of covid. according to federal data children younger than 5, who are not eligible yet for vaccination have been hospitalized with covid at higher rates than at any other point in the pandemic. but many are often admitted for a

non-covid related reason. and then they test positive once they are there. doctors are concerned about the long-term effects of a covid-related inflammatory condition. they are urging parents to vaccinate their children if those children are eligible. public schools. meantime, in los angeles are banning students from wearing cloth masks. starting today, the los angeles unified school district says students must wear well-fitted non cloth masks with a nose wire at all times, the school will hand out higher grade masks to any students who ask for them. the shift away from cloth masks was prompted by guidance from county health authorities. >> u.s. supreme court has agreed to hear a major challenge to affirmative action policies for college admissions. the case involves claims at harvard university and the university of north carolina are violating civil rights laws by giving preferential admissions to minority students. plaintiffs are asking the court to rule that universities cannot use race as a factor in admissions

since 1978, the supreme court has upheld affirmative action practices at colleges. however, with the conservative makeup of the current high court, that precedent may be overturned. >> developing news tonight, thousands of u.s. troops are on high alert for potential deployment in the middle of the heightened fears of a russian invasion into ukraine. kron four's washington correspondent jessi tenure joins us now with the latest on this pentagon's announcement. good evening. this signals a shift for the biden administration, which until now was taking a more restrained approach to ukraine, out of fear of provoking russia. >> it's very clear that the russians have no intention right now de escalating. that's why the pentagon is preparing to send as many as 8500 u.s. troops to join the nato response force. no decisions to deploy the inmate. so this is about getting units advanced heightened alert. that doesn't mean they're necessarily going anywhere. the decision is ultimately up to nato to

activate the 40,000 total troops from allied countries. the pentagon spokesperson john kirby says this tells russian president vladimir putin that he cannot weekend the nato alliance. this is about sending a strong that we're committed to nato and we're committed to assuring that our allies have the capabilities they need in case they need to defend themselves. president biden met with his european counterparts this afternoon on the escalating situation at the russia-ukraine border. we've always said we would reinforce our allies on the eastern flank. white house press secretary jen psaki says the commander in chief has still not ruled out any response, including diplomacy, sanctions and military action. could come at any one at any time. >> and the state department has ordered the families of all american personnel at the u.s. embassy in ukraine to leave the country. ukrainian officials have criticized the move is pretty much are, but some u.s. allies are following suit in washington. i'm jessi tenure.

>> now to our 4 zone forecast as we give you a live look spread out across downtown san francisco. yeah. biggest roth standing by with a look at the week ahead. >> pam and ken, i promise the fog is on the way that you can really see it in. that's a gorgeous shot overlooking downtown. that nice and clear there. we're starting to see some fog. it's little bit dark and the shot. but san francisco international airport, we did see the marine layer up along the peninsula. he'll start to push through we're going to continue to see that throughout the evening hours tonight. right now, if you're going to be out about, we're tracking a lot of 50's on the board. a couple of 40's now that finally dropping into a 48 degrees in half moon bay. 52 in palo alto right now. 53 in downtown oakland. 57 in pittsburgh. 54 in currently. 48 degrees right now in petaluma and temperatures are only going to get chillier and chillier dropping into the 30's in some spots, especially in our north bay and our inland interior valleys in our east bay as well. so it is going to be quite chilly tonight. this week, though,

during the day, it's going to be gorgeous. lots of sunshine that we're going continue a really nice weather outside. if you like 60's, this is going to be the week for you. we're going to start to see the clouds roll through towards the end of the week into your friday and then into this weekend and then a possibility of maybe a sprinkle or 2 this weekend have done coming up in my next tip. but so we are going to see that fog rolled through the visibility. not going to be too great. as you wake up or early tomorrow morning and hit the roads into school or work. we're going to see the quite low, especially along the coast and even part of our east bay shoreline, like through hayward into fremont parts of union city. so just be aware of that. but the good news is it is going to start to clear out. and so we are going to see a lot of sunshine like i was mentioning and some really nice temperatures on the board tomorrow. 50's and 60's. 59 for the high in san francisco. 59 and downtown oakland. 62 degrees. if you're going to be in the downtown san jose area, temperatures holding pretty steady through thursday with the sunshine. we're going to see those 50's

williams is sprained ankle diagnosis. kyle shanahan said there could be some old components to that injury, could point to some of the ankle ligaments that he's torn in the past. they see him walking off the field. >> at lambeau williams is one of the best players in the game. so of course, it would be a huge loss, especially against a rams team with aaron donald and von miller. as for the match up, the scouting has just gotten started. but really when it's a divisional rival as familiar with each other and these 2 teams are, it's really not all that much scouting the do. >> we've been through this so over the last 2 years. so it's not much seeing the 3rd time as it was a second time. there also is the first time, you know, just with the coaching staff to be in the same i don't think there's many there's not much things we can surprise them with and staying with them. what doesn't which i think is kind of the most fun way as 2 really good teams

was a really good football game you can't really each other. you've got to go out and get to go out and beat somebody. >> the warriors were able to get a big win on sunday night against the jazz. the one with their defense. but after the game, the topic was mostly about steph and his continued shooting struggles. he went just 5 for 20 on sunday and is now shooting 37% from deep, which is a career low. this is probably the worst stretch of his career over the last 6 weeks or so as it pertains to shooting. but obviously with steph, the standard is extremely high. and right now is really it's the dog days of the season. and steve kerr realized that. >> you know, as a coach, you you you try to recognize when the team is is especially tired or fatigued in. you give them as much space as possible. we won't have a

shoot around tomorrow. for example, we want you guys to be able to sleep in and stay off their feet and we've we had a good practice today which we really needed. but we hardly practice at all last week with all the games. so you just try to figure it day today. >> all right. that's your look at sports. back to you guys. thank you for that. >> well, let's check in again on our 4 zone weather forecast as we take a live look tonight at the golden gate bridge. not as much fog is i might rebecca strom keith thomas. there's fog out there someplace where it's coming. >> it's on the way, guys. it's on the way to we are seeing in other spots around the bay area. and in fact, you can kind of see a little bit there in the distance arispe cam right now on top of the berkeley hills. normally on a clear night, you can see all the way across the bay and even sometimes make out the golden gate bridge towers and not so much tonight. and yes, more fog is on the way throughout the bay area, especially towards the latter part of the evening and into

the overnight hours. what's also on the way the possibility maybe of a sprinkle that we could see not anytime soon, though. so future cast for showing us a high-pressure system still continuing the stick around the bay area bringing us. so the 60 degree temperatures that we've been seeing over the last couple of days, we're going to see it pretty much all week long and a whole lot of sunshine. that is keeping the wet weather away from the bay area as we get towards the middle of the weekend. maybe la can get a sprinkle or haiti later on during the week. but it looks the storm system definitely steering clear of the bay area. this storm system, though, could bring us a possibility of a sprinkle maybe towards the tail end of the weekend into the beginning of next week. if anything, it would be really, really like let's hope we're going to see some of that because we need it so tonight, though, the overnight lows going to get very chilly 30's and 40's, depending upon where you'll be. 38 degrees for the overnight low in livermore. 36

unfortunately cup wandering off to play so they can work out and people holding them there. >> a woman in michigan made a life changing discovery when she checked the spam folder in her email account inside her email, she found a message congratulating her for winning 3 million dollars. laura speer says she had randomly bought a lottery ticket online with the mega millions jackpot became huge and then she forgot about it. well, it turns out her entry had enough correct numbers for her to win 3 million dollars. officials to try to contact spears. but apparently that message went straight to the spam folder after the discovery. she verified the e-mail was legit and has since accepted her winnings. she says she plans to share the money with her family and get this retire well, researchers of staffers say it's official the brains of men and women work differently. these researchers say it all comes down to the genes. they say they have identified specific chains. >> that has to do with
