coverage of klay thompson's return to the court. >> for the dubs, the warriors guard, you may remember suffering an acl injury during the 2019 finals against the toronto raptors. >> then an achilles injury november of 2020 after more than a year surgeries in rehab, he is finally ready to pick up where he left off and he is doing a good job of it. so far. we have live team coverage tonight. we begin with kron 4 sports reporter kate rooney. >> hey jonathan. hey, justine. yet 941 days an astronomical number. but that's how long it has been since klay thompson appeared in a game for the warriors. and thankfully tonight that miserable streak officially ended. thompson is finally back on the court as we speak. as a matter of fact, his first time playing a real game on the chase center court. his back-to-back acl and achilles injuries have kept him out since 2009 team last game we played it was game 6 of the nba finals against toronto. >> and that, of course, was back oracle. and tonight when he stepped on the court, the

boy, the crowd nuts. kron 4 sports director jason dumas is there tonight. and he tells me it is quite loud in the arena, especially when thompson scored the first bucket of the game for the warriors. sure make sense, though. he is a 5 time all-star 3 time champ and one half of the splash brothers. just to give you an idea of how popular thompson is. >> he's currently 4th among guards in nba all-star voting. 4th have even sniff the court until about half an hour ago. and of course, we're going to have claimed a coverage all night here on kron 4 to a great day for various ports as well. the forty-niners punch their ticket to the playoffs. so more on that, too. coming up later in the show. >> all right, kate, thank you. meanwhile, it's not just the coaches and clays teammates who are excited for him to finally be back out on the fans are chomping at the bit to see the splash brothers reunited kron four's gayle ong caught up with some of them a chase center before they went in to watch the game. >> it was so excited that we

new things for us, ok, you just going to be fantastic. at chase center, gayle ong kron. 4 news. >> and let's get now to our 4 zone forecast as we take a live look outside of the cold, san francisco on this evening. kron 4 meteorologist mabrisa rodriguez here with more. the sun was shining across the bay area today. hopefully things will definitely pick up and son chase center as well as we. >> celebrate this big day here in the bay area. >> yeah, i don't really know how i can top clay day, but today we certainly notice beautiful weather out there. so welcome back. lee thompson, we're tracking crystal clear skies out there, but we are going to see an increase in cloud cover throughout tonight. radar for seeing some high clouds starting to stream overhead right along the bay area coastline eventually making its way inland within just a few hours. but we are tracking milder temperatures out there right now at this 6 o'clock hour, half moon bay,

56 degrees. but livermore, 10 degrees cooler at 46 degrees. still in the low to mid 50's for most bay area cities. petaluma though 48 degrees downtown san francisco at 54 with oakland in the low 50's and we are tracking relatively calm wind speeds change in wind direction today. but we're going to see more of a northerly flow as we continue with seasonable temperatures to start your work week monday and future cast for going to show an improvement in the dense low clouds and fog. not going to be as low as widespread. we are going to see better clearing during the overnight hours. as far as our low cloud cover goes down to 4 miles for san jose downtown san francisco down to 5. but fortunately, no one tracking at or near 0 visibility. but we are going to notice an increase in that high cloud cover. doing little change with our temperature, though we're going to remain feasible with the dry outlook for the next 3 days. details of that will continue in your full seven-day forecast in just a few minutes. jonathon, just

seen back to you. risa. thank you. another covid-19 coverage tonight where after a plan to seek out last week where hundreds of oakland unified teachers called out of work. >> now their students are beginning to follow their lead. hundreds of students within the school district have now come together and formed an online petition where they're demanding increased covid-19 protocols are also saying they will go on strike kron 4 taylor sackey has the story. students at schools in oakland unified school district are now demanding increased covid-19 protocols in supplies. >> if their demands are not met, they plan to boycott showing up for in person classes. we are demanding. >> kn 95 masks for all the students because not easily accessible to them twice a week pcr and that that has for everyone on campus and more outdoor spaces to eat safely when it rains. over district does not want to give it to us. we demand a shift. those 2

>> i'm eileen serrano is a 10th grader at met west high school as one of the organizers of this online petition that's now gathered nearly 300 students signatures. serrano says she and her classmates began the petition after seeing increased covid cases and a lack of available testing and resources. we were really shocked when we saw how many signatures were like flooding in so fast. >> and we're happy that it's not just us that are concerned, but there's more students opted out of concern. serrano says. >> they're sending this public petition to district leaders on monday. and if their demands are not met by monday, the 17th the students will not attend in-person classes for the remainder of that week until a planned strike outside the district's office building on friday. the 21st the student petition follows a plans teacher sick out on friday for more than 500 teachers called out of work sick over similar concerns. >> a rising cases and insufficient masks and available testing as a result. classes at 12 schools in the district were canceled. in

addition to some teachers not showing up to work over safety concerns. serrano says some of her classmates have chosen to do the same and stay at usd communications director john told kron 4 news in a statement on sunday. quote, the district is aware of the petition that usd students are circulating. we share the students concerned about the spike in omicron cases of covid-19. that concern is why we have distributed kn 95 and n 95 masks to all staff. we have also ordered enough kn 95 masks for all students. they will be distributed to students as soon as they are delivered. we have had the supplies for new covered seating spaces at dozens of schools, including new tables and shade structures on order since in some cases last summer supply line issues have slowed their delivery significantly. they're already meeting or are in the process of meeting most of the demands noted in this petition and we will continue to work towards fulfilling the rest in the coming weeks. i'm taylor reporting kron. 4 news.

>> the cdc is once again stressing the need for everyone to get vaccinated and are speaking today, the cdc director rochelle walensky address them. recent criticism her agency has been facing ensuring that they're doing what they can and updated provide guidance. 2 americans. >> this is hard. we have ever evolving science with an ever evolving variant. >> about 35% of fully vaccinated. americans have yet to receive. excuse me have received their booster shot and happening tomorrow, governor newsom will present his proposed state budget. the state is estimated to have a surplus. 31 billion dollars. the governor's office is saying the proposal would build an ongoing work to boost economic growth and invest in california's future. the budget must be approved by june. 15th newsom did present part of his proposal yesterday that outlined some covid

>> authorities in san pablo continue to investigate a crash this morning that killed one person and blocked all the lanes for several hours on 80 east. those lanes back open tonight. chp says the crash happened just after 6 this morning. just west. >> of san pablo dam road. investigators say that someone driving a van somehow lost control, hit the center median and ended up in the middle of the freeway in the opposite direction. that's when 3 other cars hit that van, according to chp, a man in his mid 20's died and 2 others were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. traffic was diverted for a short time. but once again, all lanes of traffic have since reopened. >> we're following some developing news out of new york city where at least 19

people are dead following an apartment fire. the flames started this morning on the 3rd floor of a 19 story. high rise in the bronx. authorities say a malfunctioning space heater in one apartment is likely to blame the door to that apartment where the fire started was left open, which authorities say loud that fire and the smoke to spread throughout the building. >> this is a hope refer cope painful moment. well, the city of new york. >> we want to assure everyone that we will not leave you. this is devastating for all of us. >> this fire is being called the worst fire disaster in new york in more than 30 years. >> take a break from the headlines tonight to talk about our 4 zone forecast. a live look at the golden gate bridge on this sunday as we get ready for yet another work week here in the bay area. >> kron 4 meteorologist mabrisa rodriguez is here now

with a look at the forecast ahead. cool and dry. yeah. that's going to be the pattern that we're going to notice for the next couple of nights with very seasonable temperatures throughout today. in fact, we warmed up into the mid 60's for san jose and we're tracking right now across the bay in the east bay over berkeley. crystal clear conditions starting to notice that high cloud cover along the bay area coastline. but we are going to see an increase in cloud cover tonight during the overnight hours, they said that blanket of clouds. we're tracking warmer overnight lows, but then we're going to see a lot of sunshine as we wake up our monday morning. even continuing through monday afternoon. temperatures out there right now, widespread low to mid 50's. starting to cool down, though in the mid 40's. 46 degrees of peace for antioch and livermore with overnight lows tonight in the low to mid 40's, some pretty uniform numbers out there with the exception of concord, even cooler at 39 degrees afternoon highs tomorrow. 59 degrees for our inland valleys in the east

travel to dallas. the wild card round coming weekend. we're going to find out later tonight into saturday or a sunday the last time the forty-niners play the cowboys in the postseason was back in 1995. in the nfc championship game. so. >> a big-time rivalry set to be renewed next weekend. that'll do it for sports. so much happening. kate, thank you. we're a farmer in turkey and now has a high-tech way to keep his dairy cows happy while they're stuck indoors for the winter. he spent the animals with a virtual reality headsets that make them think that they're outside on a warm, sunny day and photos of this experiment are going viral and users are drawing some connections here to the matrix film. but apparently the baucus here are happier and the farmer saying they're even producing more milk. he originally tried playing classical music first cows, but he says that the dairy cow
