>> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron 00:00am morning news 4. >> good morning, everybody. thank you for joining us here at 04:00am on the kron 00:00am morning news today is tuesday, november 30th on james fletcher. and we want to start off the hour as we like to do with a check of the forecast before we get to the headlines. so let's hand it over to john shrable in the weather center. hey, john. hey, james, we are going to be seeing a another nice day ahead of us today. not a lot of changes still in this forecast ahead. >> high pressure, ridge keeping things dry as we round out your last day of november today kicking off december tomorrow feeling outside of the golden gate bridge right

now. skies clearing out. we do have a fog alert on the bridge. but as of right now, i'm not seeing any out there. in fact, what we are seeing as far as visibility concerns go, san jose mountain view hayward and then up to santa rosa is where we are seeing those lower spots of visibility this morning and then especially out towards the sacramento area another morning with some to the fog having formed out there know that most of our fog has formed in our inland valleys and only in patches see, maybe even this morning just find where you're at. but don't be surprised if you do encounter some lower visibility pockets. a radar otherwise shows nice dry conditions were in the midst of some 40's 50's right now with dublin at 42 degrees alameda at 53 right now while san francisco at a cool. but comfortable in a 50 to just make sure as you are accustomed to to leave the house with the jackets ready to go in hand and you'll be just fine this morning. definitely nothing about this morning that shouldn't strike you as much of a surprise after what we've seen the past couple of weeks now, as far as

the roadways are concerned, things are actually really good out there right now. we've been checking for any incidents. we do have a report of a fire on the u.s. north 3rd on street. a 3rd street on-ramp in san francisco. aside from this, though. our bridges such as traveling over the bay bridge is just finally 7 minutes from ace to fremont street. a san mateo bridge 12 minutes from 80 to one o one and then we're also going to be looking at the golden gate bridge offering you a very easy not really talking a lot that's going hold you up and looks like there's only one car inside on the bridge right now. that's the best thing about having to get up at 04:00am. you don't got the traffic is much james. all right. thank you very much, john, for '02 is the time san francisco police now investigating several cases after a crime filled weekend. police say there were 2 sideshows and 3 shootings, one of them fatal kron four's amanda hari has the details. >> san francisco. san francisco police were busy this past weekend. officers say there were 3 shootings in

less than 4 hours. san francisco hsus off. i e says crime isn't at its worst. historically. >> but it is increasing. definitely some of the violent activity involving guns has ticked up. >> over the previous year. this is citizen app video of the first shooting on friday e-street in the bayview neighborhood. >> sfpd says it happened around one 30 sunday morning. detectives say they found a man at the scene with a non-life-threatening injury. this is video of that second shooting that was about 90 minutes later at turk and taylor streets. police say a man was injured. worst form in. >> you know, ends up with the loss of life. police say the 3rd shooting is being investigated as a homicide it happened around 5 sunday morning in the mission district officers found a man shot at the scene. he was rushed to the hospital where he later died. this is video of a sideshow in the west portal area. officers responded at 1240 sunday

morning. 10 minutes later they responded to another sideshow. your and 29th avenue. only the organizers of this. i actually knew that there was a lot of. >> attention and focus on the organized retail there's a lot of deployment in other parts of the city. and they chose a very quiet commercial corridor. >> police say there have been no arrests in the sideshow but supervisors often ian says there's still maybe we will follow up. >> and there has been significant success. >> and seizing that vehicle. police say the 3 shootings aren't connected and no arrests have been made in those crimes either in san francisco. amanda hari kron 4 news. >> well, in the east bay, investigators are working right now to solve the city's 100 27th homicide of the year. police say the most recent victim was a man who was shot and killed while trying to stop a carjacking. shooting happened in the lake merritt area on sunday afternoon. police say a passenger in the

suspect's car shot. the man while he was trying to stop the robbery. they say the suspects left the scene in a black toyota rav 4 and this is the latest incident now and what city leaders are calling a public health crisis of gun violence in oakland and now some officials want to reverse course on previous decisions because they say there's an urgent need now to take immediate action. >> we will not only police department over 678 officers. but in fact, maintain those middle staffing >> oakland's current budget freezes. an additional 50 positions in the police department. mayor chef says the city is going to be making the case to reverse police budget cuts and hiring freezes which are scheduled to start in about 8 months. chap also says that a hiring plan for a new officers will be brought in front of the council by friday. come police, meanwhile, are asking for the public's help in finding a car that might be connected to the killing of kron. 4 security guard. kevin, the shooter she

did was tragically shot and killed while on assignment last wednesday and we have a picture of the vehicle and there it is. it's a white 2004 to 2008 acura tl with 4 doors and a sunroof. give this a good look. it does not have a front license plate. police say the gunman shot the shooter while trying to steal our reporters camera. passed away on saturday morning from his injuries. a $32,500 reward is now being offered for any information that leads to an arrest. and as the investigation goes on, city leaders in oakland are coming together to honor the kron four's haaziq mod-yoon has the story. >> so you're about play actions about the tragic shooting death of kevin issue. >> and we just extend our grief. to the friends, the family, the huge community that we know and benefited from the service of kevin nishita. >> oakland. mayor libby chef

and council shade lauren taylor and treat to read share their reactions to the shooting death of kevin nishita, a security guard who was gunned down last week while guarding kron 4 news crew working on a story in and again, this is a gun at them. so we must tackle the gun epidemic and this. >> them in doesn't have city boundaries. and so we have to come together call for regional action. >> i had the opportunity meet. kevin on several occasions and always, a warm inviting sort of smile. company have. my heart broke when i initially learned of his passing. he deserves to be calm. >> and to have been. working with a sense of protection in the city and not shown up for work. with any fear or trepidation. losing his life no one and has he come in. you and i know you know him

de-escalating incidents. a press conference again to address all of this will begin at 11:00am and we will bring that to you through our kron on streaming app. make sure you tune in for that. meanwhile, bay area, infectious disease experts are calling the new variant a cause for concern but not a cause for panic. even though the world health organization is saying that the variant is a very high risk to the global community health experts that we spoke with today say that level of concern remains in a holding pattern at least until some key questions are answered proper stand kerman explains. >> we didn't want to hear this news right now. none of the state. it's it's really terribly. disappointing. >> very infectious disease specialist speaking about the latest covid-19 threat. kron variant. they had to mean red flags. that make me pretty concerned that is a rate of increase. >> that happened really overnight inside africa from going to from you. know, a few 100 cases. so few 1000 cases. and that, of course, is driven by the predominance of this

been erupting in la palma spain. it's been erupting for 71 days now scientists say the lava flowing from new vents could reach previously unaffected areas of the island. so yeah, nobody's out of the woods here. experts say the volcano is on course to erupt for at least another 2 weeks and that would be a record as of this morning. will cain is lava has reached roughly 2800 acres of land and has destroyed more than 2700 buildings. this is the volcano that just won't quit. we'll keep you updated on when it finally decides to calm down in the meantime, let's bring it back here to the bay area. we've got john trouble with our weather forecast today. no volcanic eruption story just a little to the fog is all we've yeah. it's fun get little fog this morning. james. and then the sunshine that just won't hold won't quit later on today. >> we are looking at yet another sunny day and just a couple spots of fog this morning that makes your commute really easy. go as you are venturing out there expect a couple of those lower

visibility spots right now we're sitting on the bay bridge conditions out. there are nice and clear. no movement on the flag. a very still mourning for most areas skies will clear out for those foggy pockets this morning. has any chance of rainfall sent to our north and with this high-pressure ridge firmly in place. we're looking at virtually no change in the forecast. aside from maybe even just a touch of a warmer feel by a couple of degrees. some hazy conditions you've likely noticed the past couple of days. complements of that high-pressure ridge, which is keeping a lot of her pollutants trapped right in the bay. so we have had a hazy horizon across many parts of the bay area tuesday shows you that we will be looking at clear skies here on futurecast wednesday. more of that thursday. more of that as well. and why not keep it around into friday with a into saturday. we could see a couple of clouds moving across the bay. still no chances of rainfall, though, into your first weekend of december. now today's daytime highs in the 60's for san francisco. some

60's to even low 70's right along the coastline and really much of the bay area's actually going to be in the 70's today. burlingame redwood city palo alto and mountain view each at 71 degrees. south bay temperatures in the low to mid 70's with san jose at 72 fremont at 71 hayward, 72 degrees oakland at 69 while the north bay in the upper 60's to just barely low 70's for a couple spots like out bill santa rosa and petaluma tomorrow's highs for december. first will be right around the same today's great day to be putting up some holiday lights and really just enjoying the first day of the new month after that, we will cool down a couple of degrees into the weekend. but honestly still staying pretty mild. with these mild and clear conditions. this morning we have a pretty easy commute into work. let's get a look at some of those bridges and it's only to take you 7 minutes from the maze to fremont street been looking if we have any incidents out there and really not a lot to talk about just yet. the san mateo bridge 92 a 12 minute drive from 80

bill is dominating talk among democrats, the main focus this week is funding the government before friday. >> the center will come to order. congress is back to work this week with a lot to do and not a lot of time to get it done. the end of the year. legislative mad dash is officially upon us. texas republican senator john cornyn says congress has 2 weeks to pass the national defense authorization act avoid a debt crisis by the 15th and fund the government before it runs out of money on friday. risks leaving millions of americans without a paycheck, right before the christmas holidays or punching on our funding responsibilities once again, cornyn and senate minority leader mitch mcconnell say democrats are instead prioritizing president biden's build back better. bill colleagues across the aisle. determined spend the weeks ahead. >> ways to waste america's money. well, making america's

problems. >> even worse. the nearly 2 trillion dollars spending bill needs the support of all 50 senate democrats to pass and right now west virginia democrat joe manchin says he's concerned the bill is too expensive meetings were held over the thanksgiving weekend. we will continue this week and next week is needed. still senate majority leader chuck schumer says he hopes to deliver the bill to the president's desk by the holiday. our goal continues to be to get this done before christmas. >> and if the senate makes any changes to the spending bill. the house would have to vote on it again making that christmas deadline that senator schumer sent a little more difficult for now live in washington. wiernicki back to you. all right. thank you very much. >> it is 4.22. coming up next on the kron 4 morning news homeless advocates in the south bay are happy with new barriers around homeless camps. we'll tell you why they say it's stopping them from doing their job.

>> for 25 is the time in the south bay san jose's ongoing effort to clear the city's largest homeless camps. >> is making progress. but some advocates for the homeless are pushing back on the strategy. the city's largest homeless camp is now surrounded by concrete k rail barriers. it's a temporary solution designed to keep homeless people from returning to their previous campsites. but many of the people living in the camp have instead relocated next door just east of spring street. right near

columbus park and advocates for the homeless say that the barriers are doing more harm than good because they're making it those trying to bring food and other services into the area. >> we've had trouble thanksgiving. we distribute it may be 500 meals and we had to get back up on spring street to get into the camp. we had to go down a trail with a truck and distribute the meals where if we have access from the roadway. it's just so much easier. >> the barriers went up just before thanksgiving after the faa gave the city an ultimatum to clear that camp or risk losing millions of dollars in federal funding. in a statement, the airport said in part this closure creates a long dead and a street that still allows for an house residents and service providers to access the area helps decrease through traffic to increase safety and helps prevent illegal dumping the barriers will stay there until june, which is the faa is deadline for the entire 40 acre site to be cleared. we'll take a break at 4.26. and still ahead on the kron 00:00am morning news a store in the east bay keeps getting

but if you go inland, i noticed driving in john. i ran into a little bit of fog this morning yeah, definitely. i inland valleys and right along the bay shore for the south bay. >> and on up the east bay shoreline were also running into some pockets of fog, too. so be mindful that you may be leaving the house without any in your front yard. but then a few miles away pockets of fog could certainly be seen that could hold you up just a little bit as you're venturing outside. now, as far as we go to golden gate bridge. it's not the foggiest of mornings. we will have some fog along the coastline. it will be keeping an eye on that. but as of right now, you're doing fine at the golden gate bridge. san jose in mountain view hayward as well. santa rosa in the vicinity of some patches of fog that i do want you to be mindful of as you are venturing out to make your way into work on this tuesday morning. radar is showing a continuation of our dry skies so nothing to hold you up there. roadways continue to remain dry 40's and 50's for our current temperatures oakland europe. 49 right now the late going to cool 45. we
