mild note that's going to stay in place for the foreseeable future. this high pressure ridge is not budging. that is keeping us in this trend of weather that we've gotten pretty used to now your view outside this morning at a pier 15 in the bay bridge behind it does show the flag blowing from a northeasterly wind, something that we've been seeing pretty commonplace the past couple of weeks that northeasterly wind has kept areas closer to the coast fairly fog free. but we have seen an influence of some to leave fog in our central valley and sometimes drifting out of the delta. 2, even some fog formation around santa rosa at times this morning to know skies otherwise are dry. not a lot to talk about out there yet again as we remain so steady in this forecast. 40's and 50's for our current temperatures will be talking what to expect later today and into the start of december all still to come. >> john, thank you for that. all right. tracking your traffic on this monday morning as you're heading from the east bay into the city a little under 8 minutes for your drive time. the air no major issues along 5.80, or 80
as you're traveling the san mateo bridge a little under 14 minutes to make your way as you're heading across towards the peninsula in the south bay along one oh, one 85 towards miller park a little under 27 minutes. no major issues along to 37 85 or 82 and checking out your commute from crockett down towards the maze a little under 15 minutes. james, back to you. thank you. rain and high. the one in our top story this morning is kron and our security guard who was killed. they're looking now for the gunman who shot and killed arce our guard who was a former police officer and and beloved family mendon friend of calm for kevin. the shooter was his name shot in oakland last week died over the weekend. >> kron four's will tran is standing by for us in san jose, where she used to work as a police officer will i know you. i have worked with him in the passes. a hard loss for the entire crime family and of course for his family as well. we thought he was on
the mend. >> and then on saturday we found out in the early morning hours that just these injuries. he just simply could not overcome his injuries after being shot twice in the stomach protecting one of our own maureen kelly being out on the story. the shia absolutely, james. he worked here at the san jose police department for 11 years from 2000, one to 2000, 12 and he worked for the gang unit and he is still remembered here. a lot of people from the san jose police department that actually showed up at the hospital when his body was let me show you a picture of kevin nishita. he leaves behind 2 kids, 3 grand kids. he was in his 60's. he actually retired officially from being a police officer in 2018, but he still loved the community still love protecting people, which is why he joined a security firm to protect reporters in the bay area, including us at kron. 4. definitely me. and you know, 7 is that he was out here protecting us now here is
the video of the scene. this all went down on wednesday at around noon at 14th and broadway in downtown oakland in broad daylight when all of a sudden suspects came out of nowhere. kevin, the sheet of being a security guard jumped into action. unfortunately, he was shot twice in the stomach. we learned that his injuries were so severe that the actually the oakland police department put him in the back of the squad car and rushed him to highland hospital. he immediately went into surgery. it looked like he was doing well. but unfortunately on saturday, as i mentioned, his injuries simply too much for him to overcome. the search continues this morning for the killers of kevin. the the oakland police department providing this picture of the possible getaway car. it is a white four-door acura tl between 2000. 4 and 2008 and the reward money now is more than $32,000 to catch the killers of kevin, the shia he
worked at many places. james and area in the bay area, including at one time in his career, he started off with the oakland housing authority. they are remembering him this morning. >> just so energetic and and so willing to to do things. i want in and his first day of law enforcement. and boy, if if i can describe any way be like the energizer bunny. >> he also worked after the open housing authority. he worked at san jose police department. they were police department and coma as well. at this particular time, funeral arrangements have not been given to the public. but of course kron 4. we will be there to cover his funeral as well. and you know, it's funny. we cover other people. you know, want to cover it. somebody i definitely yourself and definitely a friend and kevin, the shooter was a friend to all of us.
>> thank you so much. well, we're going to continue to talk about that this morning. bring more awareness about this finding the killers is important and supporting the shooter's family as important as well. and that's what we're trying to a crown for to remember him and to support the family trust has been set up. >> donations being accepted. they'll be given to his family and the committee made to the kevin the she trust that's at the metropolitan bank in oakland donations can be made in person or you can mail it in the as on your screen there and also on our website at kron 4 dot com, if you can donate. please do so. >> and. >> he was out there with the kron 4 crew trying to cover crime in oakland crimes that affect the community. and if you don't cover it, you don't bring awareness to it, doesn't it doesn't get fixed. and now the oakland police are taking steps more steps to try to get a handle on the crime. >> and the violencp as it continues to grow. and this all comes after another person was shot and killed over this
very weekend. kron 4. sarah stinson is live in the newsroom now with more on the story. sheriff. >> that's right. oakland police will have several tactical team supporting patrol officers who are responding to armed caravans illegal sideshows in the various violent crimes that we've been seeing recently, especially these deadly shootings. police say these teams are highly skilled in de escalating incidents. the police department has their hands full with continued violence and then they have the ongoing investigation. of course, as we just heard, it's really close to home for us here at kron with a security guard. kevin issued a shot and killed while with our own news crew just hours after the police department announced these new tactical teams. another deadly shooting happened this time at lake merritt. it happened sunday afternoon at 3.30, police say a man was shot and killed while trying to stop someone from breaking into his car on grand avenue. police say the man was taken to a hospital nearby but died some time
later they say the shooter fled from the scene in his own car. a $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest. add this to the list of investigations where police continue to look for the shooters responsible, including look at this. this is another young life lost its 15 year old chimera young and she was in the car with her uncle on october 6 when he her uncle got into a road rage incident with another driver that led to her being shot and killed. no arrests have been made. and before that 23 month-old jasper wu shot while in the car with his mom in oakland while a gang-related gunfight took place in a stray bullet hit him. no arrests have been made in this case either. we're talking about so much violence in oakland. 127 homicides just this year. so hopefully they will have
better luck with trying to deter crime, at least the escalating with these new tactical teams. hopefully we can hear from the police department today about that and get more information for now reporting live in the newsroom. sarah stinson, back to you. all right. thanks a lot. there. >> well, elsewhere in the east bay, this time in oakley, a 13 year-old was arrested for a carjacking after leading police on a high-speed chase. police say the car was stolen in oakland and then spotted in antioch early yesterday morning. police were told that the teen had guns. they responded the boy, then led them on a chase that ended in oakley when that boy ultimately crashed on main street and that is when he was taken into custody. >> time now is 5. '08 and a big story that we're following as well as the growing fear over the new omicron variant of ca of coronavirus. yeah. so some experts think that this variant could spread even quicker that current strains of the virus so far no cases of this new variant has been detected the u.s. but doctor anthony fauci says we should be prepared for the world. and
he says it probably is here and we were not testing everybody for every as you know, if you get covid, you just try to recover. >> and they're thinking that the vaccines that we have now are doing something. so they say it's extremely important. >> that if are not vaccinated, obviously get vaccinated but definitely get your booster i don't think there's any possibility that this could completely of aid, any protection by it may diminish bit. but that's the reason why you both. so again, the booster is important. and remember anybody 18 or over can get that booster. this strain. the new strain of the virus was first detected in south africa. the u.s. has announced new travel restrictions for part of africa. and later this morning, president biden is going to address the nation about this new variant. and we're going to bring that to you live when it happens. in the 8 o'clock hour or so. whatever you're doing today this morning, if your work in if you're at home at all with

early december to ski county year either. we are still looking at relatively warm and certainly very dry conditions as daria said over the next 10 days here, this high-pressure ridge is not going to allow any sort of rain or snow to even get close to making its way our direction so get used to the clear and dry conditions that we've already been seeing so much of well over this past week. your view over the berkeley hills is still looking nice and clear. we do have this modest offshore wind that this is a most breezy right along the coastline. this is a similar northeasterly wind gust. what we've been seeing a lot of lately. patchy valley fog again today clear towards the coast and the bayside. and as you can see, there is rain and snow to our north. that's exactly where it continues to be sent. we've had atmospheric river after atmospheric river just aim squarely at the pacific northwest up into western canada where they're already seeing far too much rain. and we can certainly use it here in the bay area because all we've been looking at lately at least is sunshine
and dry weather. sure. this major travel in your shopping over thanksgiving really easy and will continue to do so as we round out this month and start december. but at some point we need to see a change happening and long-range forecast is not showing any sign of it. so that means the started december looks really dry just around the corner. now 60's for your highs. in sf a few 50's and near the coastline. otherwise it 60's to 70's for today's daytime highs really similar as to where we were this weekend saying carlos woodside mountain view each in the low 70's. same for you in the south bay with a range of upper 60's to low 70's out there. fremont union city at 70 71 oakland at 71. well, berkeley. a really nice 72 degrees. pittsburgh. you'll be at 66. well, vacaville fairfield benicia in santa rosa each ride at 70 today. now temperatures tomorrow remain very similar. as we round out november and kick off december on wednesday with a high average at 71 across the day. we cool down a little
bit this weekend. still no rainfall into the first weekend of december right now. john, thank you. nice looking forecast. the air. we're also tracking your monday morning commute. >> traffic has been pretty light. for the most part this morning traveling along 05:18am, not seen any major delays as you're traveling crockett down towards the maze a little under 16 minutes for you to make that drive heading across towards the peninsula a little under 14 minutes as you're traveling there, the golden gate bridge a little under 19 to traffic moving pretty nicely. and let's get a look at the south bay traveling along one. a one 85 towards in the low part. 27 minutes not seen any issues. the palo alto along 82 or 85 as well. we'll have more traffic coming up with daryn james, back to you. thanks a lot. right. 5.17 and today congress gets back to work and their top priority is trying to avoid a government shutdown. that's the first thing on their to do list is keep the government running. >> they don't want to run out of money and could on friday. they have to also take steps to avoid a default on federal debt. we've got evan lambert with the story.
>> congress did not do anything about this before their thanksgiving break. now they have just a few days to come up with a deal, possibly a stopgap. at least one of those to avoid a government shutdown. let's take a step back and tell people how we got here. congress passed a short-term funding measure in october. but that runs out on december 3rd, they could come together and agree on a long-term spending bill or pass another stopgap, nothing happens by friday. the government could shut down and this has happened several times before the last one stretching 35 days ending in january 2019. if the government shuts down hundreds of thousands of federal workers, not just here in dc but all across the country could face furloughs, essential workers, though. like tsa officers and other federal law enforcement. they'd still have to work. they just wouldn't get paid. also national parks and monuments could close. there will also be disruptions to many operations at the fda and cdc, although covid response
would likely remain the same on a totally separate note. this fiscal debt ceiling limit is looming as well. the treasury department saying that if nothing happens by december 15th on that. then the government could default on its loan. so we have those 2 things hanging above congress this week. back to you. >> 5.19 and jury selection starts today for the trial of actor jussie smollet. he's accused of faking a hate crime against himself 3 years ago. he told chicago police that he was the victim of a racist and anti-gay attack near his apartment. dana reback has the rest of the story. >> i've been truthful and consistent on every single level since day one. i would not be my mother's son if i was capable of one drop of what former empire actor jussie smollett will finally see his day in court. >> after the alleged racist and homophobic attack against him nearly 3 years ago.
