>> from the bay area's local news station. you're watching kron 4 news at 6. >> he was always there for anyone for anything. any time. >> no, it's 6 a devastating day for us here at kron 4 news, a bay area, security guards shot while protecting one of our very own has died tonight. we take a look at how kevin is she is being remembered and the new clues now being released in the search for his killer. that is where we start to saturday night here on kron. 4 news at 6 o'clock. welcome it. i'm jonathan mccall. justine has the night off. it is indeed a sad day for us here at kron 4 news as we mourn the loss of kevin, the shooter, the

longtime law enforcement officer died this morning from his injuries. the shooter was shot wednesday afternoon while on assignment in oakland with a kron 4 news reporter on the story. he was shot in the avenue abdomen during an attempted robbery of our reporters camera equipment, medics rushed him to highland hospital where he underwent surgery. the died this morning from his injuries. kevin worked as a private security guard with star protection agency. but before then, he worked as a police officer in hayward san jose and coma before retiring from the force kron four's gayle ong lot for us tonight in the newsroom talking to those who knew him best guild. you and i worked you many it's just a devastating loss. how are you feeling tonight? >> just devastated. jonathan kevin work with many of us here at kron 4, including myself and with other journalists at various stations. his former colleagues in law enforcement are remembering him as a hardworking kind family man that he was.

>> this smile would light up room for sure. kevin ishida was known for his smile and generosity come in was such a he would give his shirt the back to anybody that needed it. he was always there for anyone for anything any time. sergeant don marchetti with the coma. police department work with shia in law enforcement for several years. first in san jose then in coma, i came here follow him. money. yeah, is is nice because here we've got to work more closely together. and just got to really. know him and the person that he was you and caring person that he was officer kim trask also followed initiated tacoma from another agency. he is described as a mentor to many. i was about trying to go to another agency. but. >> you just reminded me that you can do the job. you're going to be good. he put a good word for me. so i honestly do believe because of kevin is one of the reasons

why i got hired coma. >> and he was also there for her first case, a fraud call even though he had other cases he was working on. he actually came out to the scene and health mean and pretty much. kind of took over the investigation and then walk me through it. the shooter was a retired police officer who served at the oakland housing authority. hayward san jose and the coma. police departments. >> he later worked as a private security guard for star protection agency on wednesday around 1220 in the afternoon. he was shot in an attempted robbery while on assignment in oakland protecting a kron 4 reporter. the shooting happened near the intersection of 14th in harrison. he was rushed to highland hospital where he died saturday morning from his injuries, law enforcement from across the bay area are sending their condolences remembering him as someone who was hardworking kind and served and protected his communities. kevin was highly respected and will be greatly

missed. he leaves behind his wife, 2 children and 3 grandchildren jonathan. >> gail in just a heartbreaking day for many of us here. so many folks who knew kevin just trying to process this loss and grieving as we remember this great man. who does his job protecting us while we were out in the field. kron four's gayle ong live in the newsroom tonight. gill, thank you. meanwhile, kron. 4 vice president and general manager jim rose issued this statement today on behalf of the station saying, quote, we are devastated by the loss of security guard and our friend kevin, the our deepest sympathy goes to kevin's wife his children, his family and to all of his friends and colleagues. meanwhile, california congressman eric swalwell offering his condolences on twitter today as well calling kevin's loss heartbreaking even going on to thank kevin for his years of service and calling for his killer to be brought to justice. tonight. meanwhile, there are new developments in the search for kevin's killer. police are now still searching for the

she's playing hooky with all those gorgeous weather. out whitbeck is here with a look at what's on the way for tonight and tomorrow. >> yeah. jonathan, thank you. we're definitely seeing a mostly clear skies around the bay area right now. also in this camera shot our camera on top of the berkeley hills here, just some high clouds. but other than that, a gorgeous evening around the bay area. and yes, it was a gorgeous day today. gone into the 70's in some spots around the bay area right now. temperatures mostly in the 50's and 60's. so not a bad start to your evening. so far. 60 degrees in hayward, 60 in downtown oakland. 64 in san francisco. the already getting into the mid 50's for petaluma and nevado high pressure is really dominating the bay area we've been seeing it for the last couple of days. that's why we're seeing little bit of a warming trend and dry. no rain in the so far. unfortunately, though, we do need it. try to take advantage of these afternoon. being so warm and unlike normal for this time of year again

smash-and-grabs in the covid-19 pandemic. shoppers are still flocking to san francisco's union square. >> to start the holiday shopping season, which is also seeing a bigger police presence in the city's popular district. black friday shoppers telling kron four's dan thorn that the haydn presidents from sfpd was a welcome sight. >> among the thousands of black friday shoppers making their way through union square cops could be found on nearly every corner. if you're a criminal, you don't want to come. san francisco police are out in full force as the sidewalks and stores have been taken over by people eager to score a deal. the police presence comes after smash-and-grabs have terrorized bay area shopping centers. the visibility of police has been comforting. it makes you feel safer walking around. what's going on in world today. yeah. a lot safer. this is the biggest

into 9 former recent with a look at what is on tap for the start of your sunday. >> well, jonathan, if you like to today, we're going to pretty much the a carbon copy as we get into tomorrow. so the 2nd half of your weekend set to be a nice and warm in the afternoon and we're going to start off with a clear evening tonight. if you are still out and about right clear skies over looking at san francisco international airport and temperatures so far right now, mostly in the 50's and 60's. so they haven't dropped quite low. yes, but overnight lows. this. we're expecting tonight. no 30's on the board. so we did have those frost advisories or earlier in the week. not going to be the case tonight, but it is still going to be chilly out there 40's and 50's depending upon where you're going to be at 47 for the overnight low in nevada, 51 right here in san francisco. oakland, you'll be the low 50 tonight, 50 in hayward, 48 for mountain view and downtown san jose and overnight low 47 degrees. but the afternoon highs tomorrow. yes, the 70's will return in some spots. and yes, we're going to see a whole lot of sunshine and dry

weather all thanks to a the continued high pressure, the pushes through the bay area. some high clouds that we will be seeing that mostly sunny skies as we get to into tomorrow afternoon to take advantage of it. head outside if you can because like i was mentioning, it's going to be very similar. so what we saw today, a high of 68 expected and a lot of sunshine in downtown san francisco tomorrow. 70 degrees for the afternoon high in downtown oakland and san jose, you'll be high of 73 now, what does the rest of your week look like as we get into it will look at this temperatures holding pretty steady. in fact, the next 7 days, 70 degrees all the way into the weekend. and jonathan, those overnight lows. so we're looking at in the 40's. there might be some 30's that will sneak in during the middle of the week. but so far looks like 40's and 50's for the most part, folks in the upper midwest dealing with snow right now would kill for this can't complain. definitely back a thank you. >> now the covid-19 coverage tonight where a new variant of the virus has now has scientists across the globe and right here in the u.s. on
