if you're going to be out hitting the roads fields, gas incredible and then of course, john, with the weather. the all important forecast for thanksgiving morning job a little easier to stomach than the gas prices. guys forecast is looking good. we are looking at some good conditions for your shopping today. last minute errands that i know all of us got to get done on this day before thanksgiving and also for your travels, which is one of the busiest travel days of the year looking outside your berkeley hills camera is beautiful. crystal clear. we are in the midst of some frost advisories, though, just due to how cold temperatures are this morning. the inland east bay as well as inland portions of the north bay valleys. all falling into the 30's and 40's and that's frost advisories remain in effect for the spots shaded in light blue on this map until 09:00am. you can see a few 30's on the map right now, including in concord, petaluma novato san anselmo and santa rosa, quite the range of temperatures, though, because we're certainly not all in the 30's. a few 50's on the map as well. i'll be

talking 60's this afternoon and also your thanksgiving forecast. still to come, john, thank you for that. all right. let's get a look at your traffic this morning. i'm see any major, hot spots out there traveling from the east bay into the city. a little under 2 minutes for your drive time. there. the san mateo bridge across towards the peninsula. you can make that commute and a little under 30 minutes. check out the richmond sandra fell bridge to travel out of richmond. a little under 10 for you this morning. and the golden gate bridge 20 minutes as you're traveling from the north bay to the tolls will have more weather and traffic coming up for now, let's get back to our top stories. the travel for this thanksgiving today. going to be one of the busiest days of the year with more than 50 million people making that last minute dash for thanksgiving. exactly in least we know we will not be a part of that because we'll be working today, though, is expected to be one of the busiest days at the oakland airport. and that's where we have kron four's millibar call. >> live there this morning with the details. good morning.

>> good morning. you guys. many people are up and ready to get this holiday weekend started. take a look at this. these are all of the flights here at the southwest check. and that are a leading this morning from oakland airport. we've got people going to las vegas. we've got people going to phoenix. we got people going to sacramento ca adult. you name it. everyone is headed out today to get their holiday weekend starting now. officials here at oakland airport expect nearly a 170,000 passengers to travel through oakland airport during the thanksgiving period now between today and sunday. officials say they're going to see twice as many people check in for flights compared to last year. and these numbers are fairly close to what they saw before the pandemic started, but they still have those covid protocols in place sanitizing the place and you still need to wear your mask. once you step inside the airport. so they're encouraging people to not only wear your mask but get here early because they're expecting many people to show

pretty high and still close to that $5 mark, in fact, let's show you some graphics that we have ready for you just to get you an idea of what it with the prices are around here in the bay area and a little down south and north. so you can see san francisco has top billing at a gallon. and this just the average we have from from all around the area open for 79. even several felt is that for 88. if you go down south the los angeles. you've got 4.71. so it's only like, you know, maybe $0.10 up north in reading where you usually find gas. quite cheaper. it's still up for 67. so that still, you know, hits hurts a little when you've got to fill up your tank andlagain, santa cruz in sacramento. you have there at the 4, 77 4.72. so, you know, even president biden did announce yesterday that he will release like 50 50 million barrels of of crude

oil just to help bring down the cost of gas that's only going help a little bit. it's not going to do anything for this weekend. for this holiday weekend. but you will start to see gas prices kind of go down very little by little. i may be i just soften the blow a little, so to speak, for the christmas holiday and and some of the holidays in december. so that guests will be willie and slow throughout. he's coming overall not too much of good news here when it comes to gas they're still pretty high. and it's really just really basic economic there's a high demand and low supply. and this is why some of our prices are so high right now. back to you guys. >> all right. you only thank you very much. 6. to leave early. if you can. according to triple a the absolute worst time on the roads. 46 pm. so just don't be on the roads at during that window. the worst commute. by the way, if you're looking for particular stretch of roadway. it's eastbound 80 between the 5.80 split and sap apple down road. aaa says traffic on that particular section of highway is going to be 300% worse than normal. it's going to take the extra long to get through it. aaa says overall the best time to drive to days after 09:00pm. so if you can push it off till then that the best tomorrow, the worst time to drive is between noon and 3. the best time is 11:00am friday. you're going want to avoid driving between one and 04:00pm you want to hit the road before 11:00am if you want to get an easy start and then over the weekend of the best time hit the road. they say is before noon. >> well, another big story in addition to travel or following police in fremont say they're stepping up police patrols at retail centers. this comes after the recent smash-and-grab robberies. we've been seeing its stores all across the bay area. well,

city officials say they've been in contact with several businesses and people can expect to see more patrol cars in certain areas. now, again, if you're out there, you see anything. make sure you contact police. now the 9 people charged in connection to a series of smash-and-grab robberies in san francisco could be arraigned in court as early as today. investigators say online, people are connected to break ins and robberies at the louis baton store dispensary walgreens. well, sfpd says as many as 40 people smashed windows at the louis that on store on friday night. this was one of several locations targeted in that night. span. we've also learned areas in the soma district. we're also targeted friday night as well. >> we cannot we will not and we do not tolerate that kind of behavior in our city. the charges we everything from looting, grand theft burglary, possession of stolen property firearm possession commercial burglary and more.

>> district attorneys from across the bay area met yesterday to discuss the thefts happening across the area and whether that these in these incidents could be connected to other thefts as well. >> well, legal analysts say that all the bay area, prosecutors are going to have to argue that these well organized theft amount to felony conspiracy charges as san francisco dha. somebody did. and that's because there is a california state law that treats thefts that are less than $950 in value as simply misdemeanors. >> a lot of these retail theft crews have become emboldened by it. decriminalization in our property crime laws. and i think that's why you're seeing this spring up all over the bay area because they recognize that at this point the prosecutors are a step behind them. >> many business owners say that they're hiring extra security now, private security. they're calling for a larger police presence this holiday. we'll see if that happens. there's a little bit

of a change in the city of san francisco. they're going to be limiting car traffic around union square as an attempt to try and stop potential criminals from parking near their intended targets. the city is doing this every day from 7 in the evening until 06:00am the next morning. mayor london breed says this change even could last beyond the holiday season. trying to. >> look at ways in order to makes it a downtown shopping experience more safe for pedestrians because this is not just about stolen goods having the ability to shop without concern about a vehicle hitting you is really important. san francisco police. >> say that they are stepping up patrols union square and city officials say they're hoping that last weekend smash-and-grab won't keep people from coming out and doing their holiday shopping. >> well, in the south bay. 2 people were arrested for trying to steal from the women's macy's at the valley fair mall. police say 2 people were caught trying to steal $2000 worth of merchandise.

they tried to run away from the scene. but a patrol officer caught them and arrested them. and over in the east bay police oakland are investigating a burglary at a business that happened on tuesday. it happened on the 300 block of 14th street. police say several people got out of their cars broke into the business and stole several items. they then got into the cars and drove away and they were able to get away. >> we'll take a break. it's 6.11. still ahead on the kron 4 morning news health officials in the east bay are preparing for a possible surge in covid cases. we'll tell you why they say the vaccine, though, is key in preventing one plus, president joe biden wants to tap into the country's oil reserve to make gas cheaper. we talked about that yesterday. today. we'll tell you why some lawmakers say that's actually a bad idea and we are going to be seeing a very busy travel day areas like sfo. we have camille out there this morning talking to all those people. >> waiting in lines, but we are going to be looking at

christmas trees. no exception. all related to the shipping delays to exactly. and for the real ones, you can blame the price hike on the weather and the cost of labor. now jenna nguyen has that story for us. i think everyone's feeling some of the. >> price crunch in our economy right now and randall repaired is no exception. he's one of the owners that repetitive farms in apple hill. we've had a labor shortage and i've had to pay a lot more money to get these young people who work for me this year because of that, he says he had to do something he hasn't done in the past couple of years. we have to try recoup those cost somewhere. and so we have to raise the price little bit for the trees. probably about 15%. yeah. but the cost of labor isn't the only problem or petty is running into this spot right here near boavista in apple hill who has got the worst smoke anywhere state of california petty tells me he has a few variety of trees here at this farm. but it was these douglas firs right here that he noticed had the most

effect from the caldor fire this past summer. i noticed some interior blight to some of the trees and scene before some of that could be drought. and but i do think some of it was smoke to the wildfires in oregon this past summer are also to blame for tree shortage. many of the farmers up. there are. >> not selling their nobles in organs because of the south burned back that occurred. all of this combined. many farmers say they had no choice but to raise the price of their trees. i think. >> if you look around, you'll still find some great values. but most the prices going to be up at least a little bit. >> encouraging families to be patient this year as they go out to pick their trees. >> and reporting yeah, kicking a whether if anybody's got plans, maybe this weekend to head up the apple hill are any other points around. i guess it's a pretty calm forecast. hopefully, apple hill is going to be a little bit too nice. this because sometimes you get up there towards the sierra

foothills and it starts to get a little dicey this time of year. that is definitely not the case this time around. we're looking at dry conditions and relatively warm conditions along with the 2. now mother nature is giving us at least an easy shopping errands and travel forecast. as we near the holiday golden gate bridge is crystal clear dry obviously we're not seeing anything on radar as high pressure is firmly built itself back in now that is pressing any chance of rainfall continually to our north and areas that don't need anymore. rain like the pacific northwest up into western canada on the other hand, we have just the opposite effect going on back here at home, which is good weather. as i mentioned, for getting outside taking care of all the things you need to before thanksgiving tomorrow, which is going to bring just as nice of conditions. few clouds into friday for black friday, but still looking really nice if you've got shopping or traveling plans on that day. 60's for your highs across the board. doesn't matter if you're at the coast right along the bay or further inland. all are daytime highs are going to be comfortably cool. so get the light jacket

on into the afternoon, although this morning you want the extra layer because we are looking at some temperatures in the 30's this morning. low 60's inland mid 60's right along the bay and for the north bay. we've got a mix of both as well with napa at 65 in mill valley at 63 tomorrow's highs right around the same as today's and friday will be the same for that matter. we actually get a little bit warmer into the weekend and into next monday with some highs rising into the low 70's on these days still keeping the sunshine around in the dry skies all the way through the last day of the month, which is next tuesday. >> reyna john, thank you for that, right. no major, hot spots out there at this hour. that's the great news. if you need to catch a flight to head into the city a little under 11 minutes for your drive time there. the san mateo bridge that in a cross towards the peninsula. little under 30 minutes, no major issues. let's get a look at the richmond center fell community travel out of richmond. now down under 10 minutes and the golden gate bridge looking at 20 minutes for your drive from the north bay heading into the city. alright national

headlines this morning. the white house says it's dipping into its national oil reserve to help lower. >> gas prices for millions of americans this holiday season. we talked about his announcement yesterday and looks like some people got the memo as you're already hitting the roads today. democrats are praising the effort while republicans are blaming the president for the price or they are. we've got raquel martin joining us live in dc with more on some of this back and forth. good morning. workout. >> good morning. will experts are weighing in and saying that in the next one or 2 weeks. we could see a drop in prices for about 2 10 to a small and slight decrease and they say it's not guaranteed. but the white house at this point is still insisting and optimistic that their strategy will work. >> i told you before that we're going to take action on these problems. that's exactly what we're doing in an effort to combat surging prices at the pump. the white house says it's releasing 50 million rom the of oil

nation's strategic petroleum reserve to help balance out a supply shortage sparked by the pandemic and will not solve the problem of high gas prices overnight. and we'll make a difference. we have to do everything in our power tuesday, department of energy secretary jennifer granholm said the effort should give americans temporary relief last month. gas prices reached their highest level since 2014, oil production is lagging behind. granholm says the current supply problem underscores the need for america to diversify its energy resources add more clean energy. relying upon. >> fuel from countries that may not have our best interests at heart hurts the american people in the long. and but republicans say the biden administration's policies are making things worse, not better joe biden is clueless florida republican senator rick scott says releasing oil will help americans. now, that's going to be nice, but we've got to do is we've got to figure how to become energy independent. we don't. you don't do it by shut down pipelines ensure that shut down drilling. and

>> we're back at 6.24 and happening today. if you're going to be traveling through sfo. you're probably going to notice at some point some protesters out there. this is a live look at the airport right now we're operations are smooth at the moment, but a union representing hundreds of food service workers out at the airport say they do plan a member strike today. they're really pushing for better benefits better pay in essence and health care to so the strike is scheduled from 10 o'clock this morning until 3 this afternoon. it will be out of terminal 3 airport officials say they're pretty sure that it won't be affecting anybody's travel plans but maybe give yourself a little extra time just in

case. >> bay area leaders say they are more than ready to use them that federal money that's going to be coming in from that new infrastructure bill over the next 5 years. the bay area will receive a guaranteed 4.5 billion dollars for roads. bridges, public transit and internet access. house speaker nancy pelosi was joined by bay area. members of congress to talk about those funds. a portion of that money is in also go towards implementing new low electric vehicle buses in the east bay. one and a half billion dollars just set for airport infrastructure with some of it's set to build up the levees at sfo and congresswoman jackie spear says a 100 million dollars. it's going to go towards broadband to help close the gap on internet access across the state. why is that important? >> fi people in california doesn't have access to the internet. that's why moms are sitting in parking lots with their kids to try and get them

inside and stay cozy this morning. maybe you're already off of work. hopefully get the heaters turned up in that nice warm blanket. ready to go as you're venturing into this day before the holiday looking outside. right now. skies are really clear and as i mentioned, we do have some frost advisories. this is the inland east bay right here. areas like hawker dublin, livermore antioch out oakley all the midst of some of these frost advisories through 09:00am parts of the north bay, including one. oh, one from mill valley on up through santa rosa eventually up into mendocino county and then much of napa and sonoma valleys. also in the midst of those advisories. you can pretty easily see why conquered you're at 39 degrees right now. at aluma at 34 degrees. nevado saint santa rosa also joining in the 30's a mix of temperatures, though some of us are in the 50's like pittsburgh as well as livermore in san francisco. so warmer pockets and then icy cold ones, too, just be prepared with the extra layer as you're heading out reyna.

vaccinated outpacing the rest of the country still, he says the county's population is not projected to reach the 80% full vaccination threshold until the end of the year. he also says it essential that all eligible adults get their booster shots as well. >> team definitely makes a big difference. and i think that will keep us from as severe as surges. we have last winter in any wayne's, especially in older adults. but even in younger adults, it's still in younger healthy people. it still gives very, very good protection against severe disease and hospitalization. but we also want to prevent spread. >> well, in the past 2 weeks, hospitalizations are down nearly 4 and a half percent locally in active cases are down nearly 20%. but those numbers are expected to rise. so regardless of your vaccination status farnitano suggest getting tested for the virus before and after your holiday trips. >> trouble covid testing lab

in southern california will not be facing sanctions after all. this after claims of significant deficiencies at a lab run by diagnostics company perkinelmer officials spent 10 months looking into complaints that included mismanagement and mishandling of specimens as well as workers sleeping on the job in their final report. state investigators say they couldn't confirm all the claims, but the ones they could have since been corrected. and so far park in elmer has processed more than 5 and a half million covid tests across the state in california. in fact, just renewed its one point 7 billion dollar contract with the lab few weeks ago. >> all bart trains in service are now equipped with newly upgraded filtration systems, which officials say is going better prevent the spread of covid after a successful pilot launch. leaders say there going to be ready for more riders this holiday season. kron four's taylor is actually has that story. fresh new upgrades for all bart trains here on the bottom. we have our or 14 a classification filters. you can see.

>> well, in the east bay. we have charges. now they've been filed in connection with the shootings of retired oakland police captain or c joyner police accuse these men marlon king and come andre king of confronting join her at gunpoint and threatening to shoot him and steal his property. investigators say the joyner pulled out a gun and fired shots killing the 3rd suspect, the sonic gardner surveillance video captured the shooting back on october 21st in west oakland. police say a 4th suspect. joshua hayes was actually driving the getaway car. he was arrested in texas and is being extradited right now back to california. joyner was actually a critically injured in that shootout. he's recovering all 3 defendants now been charged with the murder of gardner and second degree robbery of joyner marlon king and moderate king are also facing one count of assault with a firearm. in the south bay san jose. police say the 2 men were injured in a shooting on story road about 2 blocks away from one. oh, one off-ramp. investigators say

they arrived on scene and found the 2 men with gunshot wounds. both were taken to the hospital. one of them apparently has life threatening injuries. >> well, police in milpitas have changed their story about what led to an october shootout between officers and 42 year-old michael nelson detectives were investigating a possible stolen vehicle parked in the bill peters square shopping center originally detectives said they fired their weapons after nelson started shooting at them. first. but now other way around. it was the detectives who fired first. the santa clara county district attorney's office is now conducting an independent investigation. well, in

wisconsin, an 8 year-old boy injured in sunday's waukesha christmas parade has died from his injuries. police say jackson sparks was seriously hurt and underwent brain surgery. but passed away yesterday. darrell brooks the man accused of driving an suv into crowds at the parade was charged with 5 counts of first-degree intentional homicide. prosecutors say they intend to file another intentional murder charge following the 8 year olds death. more than 60 people were injured during the chaos. there. >> well, happening today, jury deliberations continue for a second day. now in the trial of those 3 men accused of killing ahmaud arbery in georgia. greg mcmichael and his son travis and their neighbor. william bryan are all charged with shooting arbery back in february of last year. they say they were making a citizen's arrest because they thought arbery was committing a crime, but he wasn't. he was just out for a jog attorneys for the men claim the shooting was in self-defense. however, they did admit during the trial. that arbery was walking away from them during that confrontation. 6.39 is the
