>> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron 00:00am morning news at 4. >> good morning and thanks for joining us for the kron 00:00am morning news here on this tuesday, november. the 23rd. very nice holiday weekend. a rate of harvey. thanks for waking with this bright and early. hopefully you got the week off. so maybe you're just up. preparing that thanksgiving meal for you and your family. that would be really nice. our meteorologists johns for able has been really keeping us informed when it comes to the weather. i got outside yesterday. john went to lake near because it was so nice. like you mentioned, what's the forecast going to be for the next couple of days. for those
still looking good rain and not a lot of changes out there. definitely keeping on the nice side of things. >> not quite as warm as yesterday was, though, yesterday. we saw a whole lot of the bay area rising well into the 70's after a weak cold front pushes through last night. we are going to see temperatures mostly down in the 60's today looking outside at half moon bay conditions out there. certainly clear. we're off to another fog free start for most of the bay area, not really a whole lot of cloud cover to know either. visibility is most impacted out to the central valley. another morning with that dense to leave fog. if you do happen to be traveling out that way. now, as far as temperatures go, it's a range of anywhere from the 30's up in parts of the north bay like santa rosa and san anselmo to the 50's again, today in pacifica san francisco and berkeley to start the morning regardless of where you're at. you do want the jacket as you're venturing outside later on today. still a nice one, but not as we are going to see daytime highs rising well into the 60's. so a light jacket will do you. well this
afternoon overall good conditions for getting some errands done ahead of the holiday. now just a couple days away. reyna don, thank you for that. all right. let's get a look at your roadways this morning traveling from the east bay into the city. no major issues or delays. >> a little under at say 10 minutes for your drive time there along though. this is in hayward, northbound at west a street. we do have an accident along that highway. so keep a close eye on things. there. let's head over get a look at the san mateo bridge heading across towards the peninsula. little under 30 minute for your drive time. and the richmond sandra fell commute traveling out of richmond. a little under 9 minutes and we'll stop on by the golden gate bridge. about 20 minutes from the north bay into the city will have more weather and traffic coming up. for now, let's get back to our top stories. >> it's all very sad. we're tired of talking. we're tired of paying high insurance rates, 50 to 80 people like ski mask crowbars night like a bunch of weapons. i'm really not sure what the answer is.
>> for 3 days in a row large mobs of robbers, targeted bay area businesses, leaving police and city leaders are questioning what to do about it. and some retailers not taking any chances. a number of stores and broadway plaza closed last night over concerns of a possible repeat performance of walnut creek. now police say about 80 people ran into an or storms on saturday night and took off with as much as $200,000 worth of merchandise. steer now the city of walnut creek says they plan to keep the blast a clear of cars throughout the holiday season. kron four's jonathan mccall has the latest on what's happening there. >> caught off guard. >> yeah. and returns on stocks their clothes for a surprise. >> shoppers trying to get inside the nordstrom store in walnut drive to fund the store closed. why did 5 o'clock monday evening workers locked the doors and lowered the gates management said it was done out of an abundance of caution after a wild scene
saturday night. that's when walnut creek police say as many as 80 people swarmed inside of the store taking off with this much as $200,000 in merchandise. 3 people were arrested. 3 workers were hurt, including one who officers say was pepper sprayed some of nordstrom's neighbors at broadway plaza taking the same route monday evening we found as many as 10 stores turning off the lights. you what covid precautions? and i'm not hear about. >> i might even go there. so i just was wondering what the caution >> this family tells me they were simply trying to return an item to nordstrom and had no idea about the chaotic scene from saturday. i think it. >> shakes your sense of security, but it's unfortunate for all the people working inside. you have to go through i'm sure it's now. they say they'll be thinking twice about heading out for holiday shopping this year. >> think this is going to be some serious thought considering that we have, you know, kids, family. i don't
think we'll will be will be looking at news of more often you know, as the holidays get closer and walnut creek. police are now stepping up patrols in the area to prevent a repeat performance. >> mayor kevin wilk says the city is now reviewing video to try to identify even more suspects. >> well, right now there's no word on how long the stores are going to be closing early back in august. the city council approved more than $230,000 to have a uniformed officer. but charlie broadway plaza to deter smash-and-grab fast. it wasn't an officer there at the store when it was swarm kron. 4 asked the city if there's going to be any changes in how the department will station that officer moving forward. let you know what they say. and also there was a big police presence in san francisco's union square yesterday because of the robberies there groups of people robbed and vandalized. more than half a dozen stores in the area on friday night, including the louis that on
store. you now need a reservation just to get insight while some shoppers say they still feel safe despite the recent crime some business owners tell us they're considering whether or not it's time to leave san francisco altogether. >> everything's on the table right now and we love the city. gump's has been part of san francisco and part of union square for over 150 years. we help build this vibrant area. it would be extremely disappointing for us to have to pack up and leave. >> san francisco. police say the burglaries at union square % record unaided as of this morning, police arrested 9 suspects in connection to the crimes. well, we're in the south bay. police in san jose are now saying 2 different robberies at 2 malls across the street from one another might have been coordinated as well. they say a group of robbers stole about $40,000 worth of merchandise from the lululemon store and santana row sunday night around the same time, police say at least 2 people hit the valley fair mall across the street. they
stole roughly $7,000 worth of goods from sunglass hut. >> whoever was waiting outside and multiple vehicles. let me add that it was just wasn't one or 2 cars. it was 4, 5, cars. they're planning to load all these cars fully with merchandise who knows. i tried to stop him, but they indicated they were really the run me over. so backed off. >> no arrests have been made in either robbery. there's no information on possible suspects. there is a larger security presence still at santana row ahead of black friday. and the east bay. this dramatic video shows a group of 9 people flynn. the sam's jewelers inside the southland mall. this happened sunday night around 5.30, police say the group used hammers to smash open the display case and grab whatever they could. police say the jewelry store was the only location in the mall that was targeted. no arrests have been made. this is the 3rd time in the past 2 weeks at a group of robbers use hammers to still jewelry from the bay law similar
crimes also happened in concord and fairfield. well, it wasn't just jewelers and designer stores that were robbed over the weekend. we're going to show you video of a group of burglars who broke into the blunt and more dispensary near the coliseum. well, this happened around one 30 yesterday morning. the owner tells us he believes the burglars came from a side show that was happening nearby. well, police started scaling the fence before storming in rating display cases. 7 minutes later security a right to chase them all with these recent attacks on marijuana related businesses owners say they're getting fed up with paying high taxes and not getting much in return when it comes to police response. >> extra security. and the taxes. we talk about tax strike, potentially we're talking a pick in the mayor's office. we don't know what we can do, but its top action would kind of talk. >> well, this is just one of several incidents that took place in oakland over the
weekend. oakland police chief leronne armstrong held a news conference yesterday to address the crimes. we'll have more on that in the next half hour. well, turning to developing news in wisconsin. we're learning more information about what happened at the holiday parade and the suspect accused of driving the suv that ploutis that parade mean time. the community had visual. there to support the families of the 5 people who lost their lives and those that were injured care winter has the latest for us. >> time. what do piece of the investigation. a holiday gathering turned into a scene of horror. >> at this christmas parade in wisconsin after the driver of an suv plowed into a crowd of people causing mass casualties. the waukesha, wisconsin police chief identified that suspect as 39 year-old darryl brooks. at least 5 people were killed and dozens injured, including children who attended the festivities doctors from the
pediatric trauma center at children's hospital of wisconsin describe some of the injuries of the 18 patients brought to their facility, their ages range from 3 to 16 years old. >> injuries range from facial abrasions to broken bones to serious head injuries. 6 these patients were sent to the operating room last night and 2 additional patients are undergoing surgeries today according to physicians, 6 patients were listed in critical condition. 3 in serious and one in fair with 8 other patients in fair condition who were not in the icu but in other units of the hospital. there's $0.3, a siblings that are currently hospitalized with in children. >> and this is unique in truly demonstrates the devastating effects of this on our community. chief thompson said brooks was involved in a domestic disturbance right before the tragedy. graphic video recordings showed the red suv speeding through barricades before approaching the parade route where that driver rams into dozens of victims attending the event according to witnesses brooks appeared to swerve from left
to right. as if you were deliberately trying to hit as many people as possible. >> chief thompson also refuted claims that officers were pursuing brooks before the deadly incident that he confirmed it was not a terrorist attack last event that great beginning nightmare. >> last he really injured. last lost during should have been a celebration. >> law enforcement officials did not confirm how they caught that suspect or provide details on a possible motive. among those hurt in the rampage. a roman catholic priest and some catholic school children. also members of the asked fired and center studio which had about 70 participants in the parade, including kids as young as 2 and we're being pulled and wagons. >> well, that was care. winter reporting for us. and police say the ages of the victims who died range from 52 years old to 81 years old. the waukesha school district canceled classes on monday as well as on today and said extra counselors are going to be on hand for students and staff who need to speak to them. well, coming up on the

still because of these calm conditions and clear conditions were in the midst of again, we will have breezy conditions later on today and that paired with temperatures down from the 70's yesterday. just some 60's this afternoon is going to make for a noticeably cooler. feel venturing outside to our north pacific northwest is getting some rain and snow. all this energy does fizzle out by the time it reaches the bay as we see this passing cold front. the only thing this really does for us is bring a few clouds during morning hours by the afternoon. we are cleared out and just looking at a cooler day ahead tomorrow we remain fairly cool before temperatures start to bump up a few degrees on into thursday and friday starting to climb back into the low 70's for a few spots by thanksgiving and by the weekend around the corner 60's for your highs. that has happened almost across the rest of the bay area to we will be looking at a range low to mid 60's burlingame at 65 saying carlos a nice cool 66 today, south bay temperatures in the mid
60's. campbell, one of our warmer spots. also at 66 well, union city at 64 in oakland at 65 degrees. so not a lot of temperature variation. what you're out, the coast or further inland we're all hanging out right around the same for your afternoon today. we'll see plenty of sunshine after a few of those clouds do depart pretty early on this morning. wednesday will be just as schools today and then thursday we see temperatures climbing a few degrees. the weekend ahead. brings highs back close to the 70's. back to rain on. thank you so much for that. all right. let's start with the bay bridge. if you're heading from the east bay into the city. a little under 10 minutes for your drive time there. >> if you're out in hayward along 8 80 northbound at west a street. there is an accident that is a slowing things down just a little bit along 88 the san mateo bridge in across towards the not seeing any major delays or issues that is smooth sailing for you. a little under 13 minutes for you to make that drive. the richmond sandra fell commute. we do have a traffic hazard,
5.80, westbound west of garland boulevard. so that's just as you're getting ready to get on the bridge. doesn't look like it's causing much of a delay because it's so early and the golden gate bridge about 20 minutes from the north bay into the city. well, the american red cross is asking people to donate blood or platelets during the thanksgiving holiday and into december. they say they're experiencing a decade. low blood supply for this time of the year. the american red cross says there was 34% drop in new blood donors because there were fewer blood drives at schools and colleges because of the pandemic. well, governor gavin newsome toward a vaccine clinic in san francisco's mission district to urge people to get their booster shots now that every adult is eligible for want california. expanded was just shot eligibility to all adults over the age of 18 before the cdc and the f d a said adults throughout the country could get an extra shot. the governor says the state has the lowest covid positivity rate in the nation says they're still a lot of work to be done. so here to celebrate.
>> that success of sorts. but soberly and humbly and reminding people of the importance not to let their guard down. >> the governor says 9, 1%, of all adult californians have received at least one dose of a covid-19 vaccine. well, the a half million federal workers - to get vaccinated against covid. now, the white house says more than 9% of federal workers have received at least one dose. the mandate does not include an option for regular covid testing but workers can request a religious or medical exemption. federal employees who are neither vaccinated or exempt are going now have to begin a counseling process that could result in termination for them. there were some concerns over how the vaccine mandate would affect the holiday travel season. tsa officials are telling travelers not to worry and that operations will not be affected. the agency says

>> now to the south bay where elizabeth holmes is back on the witness stand monday. the embattled there in focused on what she called positive early test results for the company's blood-testing technology. prosecutors claim she misled bold investigators, investors and patients into believing she had invented a breakthrough in technology.
the homes are due today. she generally believe results and that she was not intentionally trying to mislead anyone. if convicted homes could be sentenced up to 20 years in prison. the trial will pick up again today. well, former raiders wide receiver henry ruggs will remain on house arrest. that's after nearly missing required alcohol test. he's required to take 4 since his involvement in a deadly car crash earlier this month. he was suspected of being drunk when it happened. well, it's appeared in court yesterday because he missed a warning to take the test. he says he did not hear signal that informs him. it was time from here on our roads will have to wear a gps ankle monitor and another device to monitor his alcohol level. the trial of the 3 gtorgia men charged with the murder of ahmad arbery continues today with a rebuttal from the district attorney greg mcmichael, his son travis and william bryan are all charged with shooting arbery in
