attorneys are set to make their closing arguments in the trial of kyle rittenhouse. he shot and killed 2 men and injured another and a black lives matter protest in kenosha, wisconsin. he says it was self-defense. he could face life in prison if he's convicted. prosecutors have asked the judge to let the jury consider lesser charges as well. >> well, we're also getting into the heart of the holiday season as we know. and after nearly 2 years, a lot of families are now planning to reunite this year. but this comes as covid cases around the country and the world really are starting to spike again. we've got carlos a toe with the story. >> planning on traveling for that family. turkey feast. you're not alone according to aaa more than 53 million americans will be taking to the air roads and rails this thanksgiving of those 4.2 million people will be flying. that's an 80% increase from last year during the height of the pandemic when airlines saw
a significant drop in passengers actually to play professional football and last year at this time, there is no one in the airport. you know, i travel during the holidays because my family lives here and. >> it's crazy at the airports. definitely picking up this turnaround comes as covid cases and hospitalizations have stabilized. >> and vaccination rates have climbed in certain parts, thanks in part to vaccine mandates. i'm more than likely won't be traveling for the holidays. but i have a lot of family coming in so. >> i'm excited. but still covid. so it's kind of just want to be together for the holiday. the uptick in travel has people feeling some sense of normalcy. my is a figure skater. and so we're traveling a lot. so next weekend we're going to boston and. >> after that we're going to michigan. so there's going to be a lot of popping planes. i think. >> so. the next few weeks. >> a surge in international travelers is also expected now that the u.s. lifted its ban on passengers from 33
countries, including australia. and i was really exciting al border be involved and we travel 59 in both sides sought to come back. from the air to the ground, which is also going to be a mess we broached thanksgiving and also pretty expensive. yeah. >> and california proudly boasts being number one, lot of things, but we don't like being number one when it comes to gas prices. unfortunately, though, we are setting new records across the state here in the bay area. obviously we're seeing nearly $5 of $5 a gallon for gas. you see that just about on every corner. of course, will tran is on a corner gas station seeing people's eyes when they fill er up. >> and they're not so happy. will. >> we're breaking records every day. i mean, people woke up on sunday morning. it was $4.67 average in california this morning is $4.68. so every day we keep topping each other or what we're doing the day before and unfortunately we're going in the wrong direction. take a look at your
screen. you're probably okay. well, show me the prices and here they are. if you're waking up this morning, the average gas price $4 and $0.68. as i just mentioned in san francisco, you are paying $4.87 san jose oakland $4 and $0.78 and in samara fell, we chose the place in the north bay samara fell. you're actually one cent higher than san francisco. at $4.88. the bad part is we're not even topped off yet. what i mean is according to gas experts. we haven't reached the plateau, especially. >> with demand continuing to rise with the holiday just right around the corner so that we'll tap into what they say is a limited supply of gas. in fact, they're not producing as much gas as they did. >> pre covid were down 14% as far as gas production from one year ago. >> and then, you know, with the demand up these days that really rises the gas prices. it's 65% higher. this time.
then the same time last year, i get it that were coming out of the covid pandemic slowly but surely but 65% more if you're waking up this morning and you're in shock. can you imagine if you're an out of towner seeing the prices. >> we're not from and like $5 for like a gallon of this pretty extreme or with from a light to the so this is bite. i think a lot of people owned by where you well and enjoy >> all the way from alabama. >> and i got to tell you, they were saying why don't you move dalla and for about 3 seconds. i just looked at him like. but the gas prices the way they are. i just might move to alabama because it's going up and up the price behind me, $4.99 across the street. the generic brand $4 and $0.49. if
you just want to feel bad about living in california. i love the sunshine. i don't like paying so much. but the national average for gas price $3 and $0.41. wouldn't that drive to another state filler up. but that would be a if they say that was pretty good if they will. fact yes. sticker shock from them for sure. time now 6.42 and coming up on the kron 4 morning news the forty-niners get ready to take on their rivals. >> los angeles rams tonight on monday night football. yeah. plus the warriors hot streak. it comes to an end we'll have highlights on their loss last night. but don't worry, we've got another game coming up.
