>> from the bay area's local news station. we now with breaking news. >> and that breaking news now at 5. an anti vax protest happening right now. the golden gate bridge visitor center in san francisco. thanks for joining us, everybody on the key will kiss and i'm grant lotus kron four's. dan kerman is live at the scene. we go to him now. >> for the very latest and. well, that's right. you can see right behind me. this is the protests going on right here by the visitor center. let me step out of the way. >> we can zoom in a little bit so you can get some sort of idea of exactly what's going on. how many people are here. again, this is not anti-vax. a

lot of these people are anti vax, but some of them are just anti vax mandate. and that's really the focus here. they're talking about wanting to be able to choose whether or not to have if they are going to go into restaurants if they're going to go into schools, things along that nature. we can take some video and show you some of the signs out here. various relating this situation to not see germany relating the situation to the nuremberg trials. this is the correlation they're making in terms of vaccine mandates. we can tell you there are several 100 people out here. there have been earlier more and more people are starting to leave at this point. traffic to get to the northbound part of the bridge is very slow as a result of this. we understand that it head to deuce to a slowdown earlier, which may or may not have been related this protest or not. this point, the bulk of the protesters are down here at the welcome center. again, the

focus for them is that they are opposed to a vaccine mandate. they don't think there should be any mandates in terms of vaccines. they believe that should be left up to people. we're also hearing various pieces of information about people are being lied to. and that the people are not getting the full picture in terms of what the situation is as it relates to vaccines are also hearing many of the same conspiracy theories that we have heard anti-vaxers in terms people getting sick and all those sorts of things. but again, the main focus of this protest is not having a mandate for vaccines. that's the latest right now at the visitor center live at the golden bridge. dan kerman kron 4 thank you, dan. us health officials say measles could be making a comeback. the cdc says the global threat of measles. >> has worsened because more than 22 million babies have missed getting vaccinated because of the pandemic. measles is one of the most contagious viruses known and

it has killed more than a million people as recently as the year 2000, the cdc says measles vaccination programs prevent more than 31 million deaths worldwide. every year. our other top story tonight, a family and community are in mourning tonight after a traffic accident kills a teacher's. he was walking to school. they're horrible 30 year-old andrew zemin was struck as he was approaching sherman elementary school where he taught young kids as a parent educator. >> spent time working with special ed students at first resisted. co has more now on the investigation and how he is being remembered. authorities say that andrew zemin was at the intersection of franklin and union in call district of san francisco. >> when he was struck by 2 cars. the 30 year-old educator was walking to his drop of sherman elementary school wednesday morning around 08:00am paramedics called to the scene attempted first day. but zemin was pronounced dead. >> just this nest unnecessary

tragedy that happened yesterday around a school. we need to be doing more. we need to be slowing our streets because we know that speed is the number one deterrent of what their determination of whether something lives or dies. jodi maderas is executive director of walk sf. she tells me that man's death is the 12th pedestrian death in san francisco this we have the tools in our tool box to redesign our streets. so cars can drive and that we are prioritizing our most vulnerable in our streets. this equals our children, our anybody that is walking. we don't have a still case around us and we are very vulnerable. so slowing down. drivers is what our city needs to do. >> maderas says that they constantly work with county supervisors and the mayor's office as far as a teacher who died. this is a map of the area where he was struck. police are investigating and

talking with witnesses and drivers of the vehicles involved. the principal at sherman elementary wrote in a letter to parents is eman was a kind patient person. she added the entire school community is in mourning, adding that he attended the school as a trial. a cousin tells kron 4 news that the entire families in shock and grieving his sudden death. >> adding that no one could have predicted or imagined that his life would have been cut short like this also saying that he had the biggest heart. theresa kron 4 news. >> another developing story. the death toll from that astroworld festival in houston is now up to 9 family lawyer confirming today that a 22 year-old college student about to graduate died from her injuries. bharti shahani was a senior at texas anm studying electronic systems engineering. she was just months away from getting her degree. her cousin says they were at the concert together

but got separated once the crowd started to surge forward. johnny was taken to the hospital where she was placed on a ventilator until her death. police say the festival drew about 50,000 people. hundreds of others were injured following the major crowd surge. at least 2 of the people injured are still in critical condition that includes a 9 year-old boy who is currently in a medically induced coma. >> family and friends gathered in las vegas today to remember tina 10 tour the 23 year-old who was killed in that dui crash involving former raider player henry ruggs police say the drugs was driving a 156 miles an hour before the crash that killed 10 tour and her dog. he's been formally charged with 4 felony counts of dui and reckless driving his family says that there so grateful for the outpouring of love and support that they received from the community. a fundraiser in her honor has raised more than $200,000 so

took a time that you took away from your family, from your job, your career, your education, your children you made a sacrifice to make america better. >> now in its 103rd year. the parade theme was heroes in motion heroes like these brothers in arms who served together in vietnam and i feel proud because servings you know, trying to and somebody safe. a day of celebrating veterans. the parade also helps put the spotlight on programs that help vets who are coping with challenges such as homelessness depression and suicide and we need to understand that people are going to wear the uniform and defend our freedom that we all of them at the very least a good health and education and opportunity to have a good job. >> flyover. some 70 different entries representing all branches of the military and

november day. yeah. chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here joining us with the veterans day forecast. what a nice day. also like spring out there today temperatures, the mid 70's around the bay area dry out there as well. beautiful day for veterans day little busy on the golden gate bridge. you can see all the traffic out there lined up specially heading northbound right now. >> backed up. but still no fog out there right now is pretty hazy. that's about it. but the rain line has shifted well to the north. look at the core of that low up near a vancouver island and then you've got that stream of moisture making its way in the pacific northwest are going to see some heavy rainfall. they're seeing some of that. now. look at the seattle or they're seen a lot of yellow, some orange just to the south and that continuing near portland as well. so going to be very active weather pattern. and the pacific northwest for us. but we're staying dry for a while. we need a break from all that very heavy rainfall that we've seen now a little bit of an on shore breeze on the increase that may return. some low clouds and fog at least along the coastline. temperatures outside right now. how about that 60's in the san francisco 66 in

just a devastating day in oakland. police now investigating 3 separate shootings that happened in a

span of just about 12 this map shows where each shooting took place. the latest happened at about 1 o'clock this morning in front of lake merritt. >> and it seriously injured. a woman and then video from the scene shows investigators surrounding a white suv. there. police say the victim tonight is in grave condition. there is also shooting around 9.20 last night on 97th avenue right near the oakland zoo. >> police say a man was shot multiple times taken to the hospital. investigators are still trying to find the shooter and motive in that one. >> and lastly, a woman was shot downtown you know, clinton front of the fox theater. it happened just before 02:30pm in the afternoon on telegraph avenue. the woman was taken to the hospital. she is expected to survive. fox theater canceled its concert last night because of this shooting. >> and on the oakland police facebook page, the department writes instances of gunfire are up. 42% just from november. 1st 2 november 7th

and this year police say they have recovered 1017 guns soon. well, there are now 2 mayoral candidates in the city of oakland. >> throughout the campaign. will we talking to both of them about their plans to address the city's major problems that gun violence would be at the top or near the top of the list of priorities can force a secret unit spoke to both candidates about what they plan to do to try to stop it. >> in terms of your campaign platform. where does public safety rank in terms of priorities. well, as one of my very top priorities absolutely. public safety is at the top of the list when it comes to what we must address in our community. >> these year to date numbers show that so far in 2021 the city of oakland has experienced 119 homicides compared to 109 people killed by this time last year. related assaults are up 33%. 3 recent shootings within a 24

hour period. stretching from the uptown district lake merritt to deep east oakland shows that gun violence is a citywide problem, not even safe on the freeway from stray bullets taking the life of a child with that as a backdrop. i as the 2 oakland mayoral candidates city council members saying towel and lauren taylor. >> as mayor of oakland. what will you do to bring a stop to gun violence in the city. >> it is important that we have a law enforcement presence to hold the line while we are also investing to address the root causes that lead to the public safety challenges. we face. you know, i have fought for better public safety. >> we fought for historic investments in violence. prevention is always important that if we can prevent this from happening before it happens. that is what we should do. we have to make sure that we've got public safety response. >> at the level to provide the safety and security for our residents. we have to

investing root causes and we can do both at the same time. i also propose. >> and pass a new public safety policy that will improve our recruitment and retention of open officers. we know that we have a retention issue here in the city of oakland. >> resources. the number one issue that exist in terms of not having the resources both for response but also for deterrence and prevention because as we saw a 23 month old baby. >> was caught in a crossfire on the freeway with his family. that is unconscionable. that is disgusting. we must do something about this gun violence, this gun epidemic and it's going to take more than just one person or one city. we need to pull people together. >> all of those involved in impacted with gun violence and as mayor, i can pull. all parts of our community together. as a kron 4 news. i let's go ahead and take a live

look outside right now we're showing you the golden gate bridge where traffic looks to be at a dead stop heading are in tonight. >> there is an anti vax protest and we're hearing that there are a couple cars that >> all traffic. >> yeah. you have a people couple dozen or so at least right there near the visitor center on the san francisco side of the bridge and we just got off the phone with the chp of 3, 4 minutes ago. they're now telling us that 2 vehicles are on the span and are doing their best to stop traffic all together. so that is why we have this delay heading from san francisco towards marine. it does seem to be starting to pick up just a little bit now is we watch so that's good news. certainly for anybody trying to get home on this thursday night. but our dan kerman is there at the scene will be going live to him throughout the evening with the latest again on this anti-vaxer anti vax mandate protests that is happening

now. great weather for a protest lawrence. yeah. probably frustrating to be stuck in heavy travel. my goodness. what a beautiful night. but hey, a beautiful night here around other parts of the country. you know, they're starting to get into that wintry weather. this going to be the first significant snowstorm of the season. look at the wrap around. >> you see it all that way through the great lakes back over parts of the northern plains. and there you go. going to see some heavy snowfall. in fact, blizzard warnings are going up in the northeastern part of south dakota expecting much as a one to 6 inches of snow and some of those wind gusts over 60 miles per hour or so. here we go. the long way to go winter. you can see as a low kind of spins around over the next 12 hours or so. all that snow rolling back in winter weather advisories continue to move to the east and a purple here going to see that heavy snow moving in this just the beginning of wintry weather as we head in toward the months here december. but as we look outside right now. yes,

certainly gorgeous night out there as we've got nice, clear skies temperatures running well above the average today up in the 70's in many spots going to see mostly clear tonight. a compact is a coastal fog developing tomorrow should be sunny and very similar to today. and i think the weekend looks very nice. maybe a few more clouds as we get into sunday. but you can see a long-range forecast model right now. high pressure is taking over and that is setting all that moisture in the jet stream well, to the north of the bay area's. we get the weekend. i think that ridge is going to strengthen a little bit. that means, yeah, we're going to keep things dry, at least through the weekend. now all that rain moving up 7 northwest and up into canada. some heavy rainfall there. and then things start to break down as we get to about tuesday of next week that will bring with it a few more clouds our way. but right now looks like we stay dry. in fact looks like this. ridge is going to kind of rebuild uring ehe week next week and that should keep us dry for the better part of next week. 2 guys, back to you. all right, lauren, still ahead. you notice things cost more and more at the grocery store. >> well, now bay area shoppers are on the hunt for
