9. i'm grant lotus and i'm catherine heenan in for vicki liviakis tonight. >> parents in contra, costa county. they had the chance to ask doctors about the kid sized vaccine tonight. it's a bit smaller kron four's, also the money and listened in and joins us now with details smaller vaccine for smaller that's exactly right. it's just a 3rd, as we've been saying of what the adults have been getting. but. >> much like san francisco contra, costa county. now tonight made time for questions from the public now that this has been approved for younger children. so a group of pediatricians and county leaders said that vaccinating children between 5.11 is important to decrease time missed from school. plus preventing were symptoms and and then giving it to the rest of the public. so the study that was eventually had 3,000 children participate and that proved the vaccine to be 91% effective at preventing contraction with mild side effects. if any. and they pointed to a greater risk of severe reactions to the actual virus compared to this

vaccine. those who were worried about politicization, the pediatricians agree that even if you believe that your child is healthy there still a chance that they may end up being part of the 30% of kids that did get sick even though they did not have underlying health conditions and although kids are less prone to the worst-case scenario. they should be vaccinated again to reduce the spread of covid to others. >> doesn't care about your police. doesn't care about your sister, status. however, the color of your skin, your religion. it simply is a virus that wants to get into your body. person and replicate it. so when we talk about covid getting it. yes, we think about the individual. we also have to think about us. >> in contra, costa county vaccines for kids 5 to 11 years old will be made available starting next week. it's going to be available at pharmacies individual doctors offices, community health clinics and schools will be reaching out to parents and guardians to let them know if

they will be vaccinating on their site. appointments can be made vaccines dot gov live in the studio. ella sogomonian kron 4 news. >> thank you all. and here is a county breakdown of where you can find the vaccine in alameda county community clinics will be able to vaccinate. they figure by mid november. there will be some clinics and schools in contra, costa county parents can begin scheduling appointments now at county run sites in marin county. there will be a clinic at northgate mall and that will offer through tuesday next tuesday through saturday, san mateo county leaders expect to get doses by tomorrow. if that happens, there will be a vaccination event at the county event center and pharmacies all over the bay area will begin giving shots this weekend. they say just make sure you register ahead of time children again. will be getting just about a 3rd of the dose that adults have received and they will need 2 doses spaced 3 weeks apart. demand for vaccinating

these youngsters is so popular in several bay area counties that anxious parents actually. >> gobbled up appointments quickly. in one county today, almost a 15 minute span or so thousands of appointments were made kron four's. terisa stasio has more on the rush to get this new eligible group, a shot in the arm. >> will it the clinic that we have planned for this filled in. 10 minutes or maybe a little bit, maybe 5th team in its lady. hendrick spokesperson for marine county on what happened when they opened up appointments thursday afternoon for 5 to 11 year-olds. >> and we're talking close to 2000 appointments. >> so obviously there strong and there is a strong desire for appointments. i also have 9 wins and 6 year-old kids and have not gotten an appointment for them either. so i understand what parents are going that's doctor susan philip, san francisco's health officer. and as you heard. >> she can't get unemployment

yet for her children. the doctor explains counties are ready, but the supply just isn't there yet. >> it is good news. it's good news that we have so many families that want to get this a lifesaving health saving vaccine for their kids. that's wonderful. and we know that initially vaccine supply that we have is about 12,300 doses. the large health systems and pharmacies are also getting supplies. but people will have to be a little bit patient because for the first few days the demand is going to outweigh supply in the east bay, a similar situation with berkeley saying bookings at their first available clinic saturday our full filling up in only a few hours. >> all of this sounding a bit deja vu similar to those long lines. people face back in the winter when shots became available. and to that, unlike the dosage for those 12 and up the new round for the younger kids is different. so it is a bit of a new ball game. one thing that parents need to

understand is while it's the same manufacturer. its pfizer is a different formulation of the vaccine. so we can't just use the pfizer vaccine that we've been giving to people aged 12 and older. we have to wait for the new vials to arrive so that we can administer the vaccine. if the proper dose. >> ultimately both hendricks and doctor philip say that the goal is to get all 5.11 year-olds vaccinated before the winter holiday. >> so that that can be closer to life before the pandemic to recess. stasio kron 4 news. >> a number of cal football players will be sitting out saturday's game against arizona. and that's because they are in covid protocol. the university says all student athletes traveling to tucson have to be tested and cleared before they leave the bay area. 99% of student athletes are fully vaccinated. it is not clear exactly how many players we'll be out this weekend or whether they did actually test positive for the

live in anywhere around one thursday afternoon, san francisco police were called to this intersection heat street. the masonic avenue for a shooting. officers say when they arrived there were 2 men with gunshot one of the victims. >> succumb to his injuries and was declared deceased here at the scene. the other man was taken to the hospital. >> as pds homicide unit is investigating. they were speaking to witnesses at the scene. some told kron 4 they believe there were 2 people shooting when we asked police this was their response. we have a number of witnesses that have given us information that a number of rounds were shot where. >> not exact with the number ounds that were shot for this incident at this time. we are looking to determine that she'd love has lived in the haight ashbury neighborhood for more than a decade. >> he says he's seeing more and more crime here. just last week there was a different shooting just like one block the other direction. so.

>> it's starting to feel like a less than safe neighborhood and i don't i'm not happy about that. he says he's not only unhappy but scare. i'm terrified right now. i'm like terrified. i could have been just like walking down the street for any reason and my standard. >> and that police say this is an ongoing investigation and if you have any information to reach out to sfpd. they say you can provide that information anonymously in san francisco. amanda hari kron 4 news. >> we heard a witness there mention another shooting from a couple weeks ago. here's a map showing where that one occurred and where today's was. you can see just about a block apart and both happened in the middle of the day in the october 22nd shooting bullets hit several cars in the window of the ritual coffee shop. one person had to go to the hospital there with life threatening injuries. there's not been an update on that person's condition and police have not described a suspect. >> people in the east bay are

remembering the life of alameda county supervisor wilma chan chan was hit by a car in alameda while walking her dog yesterday. her death comes after 2 earlier fatal traffic accidents in alameda and 2021 one was a 2 car crash involving a dui another involved. a car hitting a pedestrian killing a former bay area tv news director. this latest incident is highlighting the concerns about speeding and traffic safety in that area. we asked alameda police how they're handling that problem. and the chief says at this point they're still looking for any surveillance video of the latest accident. it is not clear yet whether any criminal charges are being considered. alameda county council member john knox, john knox white issued a statement on chance death saying this tragic killing marks the second year in a row at alameda has

experienced at least 4 traffic fatalities over twice. the average more people are killed by the other people driving in alameda, then through criminal activity and said as an elected city council member all work with my colleagues to do everything we can to ensure that our city designed streets to help and enforce safety loss. >> bay area photographer said others across the country are now banding together to try to ignite change from camera manufactures after countless staffs and violent robberies. you see video of what he recently of fremont man was robbed at gunpoint after thieves followed him hall from the marine head lutz where he was taking photos and kron four's taylor talk to him tonight. she also has details on the petition. >> being circulated in the community.

>> terrifying moments when an east bay man was robbed at gunpoint right in his own fremont driveway. the whole thing happened and it was over within and 20 seconds right. so there was not even a moment to kind of have a rational thought what what should i do. this kicks lewis who didn't want to use his last name says. >> he had just returned home from shooting photos in marine when 2 men in face masks approached his car soon after they smashed his back window and took off with his camera bag reviewing his tesla cameras and home surveillance. he quickly realized the suspects have been following him to his house all the way from the north bay impacted their car just to kind of stop. and you the skate right. >> and that's when i saw him. the driver and, you know, come out and come around his car with a gun pointed to my trees right. and and i'm michael, just there just kind of freaked out and you walk around my car. that's not for the gunshot go off. >> thankfully no one was injured but lewis and other photographers say this incident from september proves

that it doesn't matter where you are. if you're seeing with the camera, you instantly become a target and people like to believe there's something that they can do to avoid this crime or they think. >> it hasn't happened to me because i've been smart enough to do x, y z. and i think the truth is that if you're out there with an expensive piece of equipment. it's a matter of time popular youtubers and photographers chelsea and tony north throughout have been pushing for better anti-theft technology and cameras for a while now. they along with lewis and other photographers. >> just started a petition to demand change from camera manufacturers. what we need to do right now. >> camera manufacturers that we need some kind of protection on devices just like you would expect with any other expensive modern piece of electronics. some of their suggestions in the petition include passcodes lens, pairing gps tracking biometrics in remote disabling so far. >> a couple 1000 people have back to the cause and signed the petition and taylor reporting kron 4 news.

>> and in that fremont robbery, 35 year-old daron mcclinton of richmond, one of 2 suspects has been arrested. he is facing charges including homicide and assault with a deadly weapon. >> the search is tonight for groups of vandals who defaced a high school in the south bay, the campus of los gatos high was found damaged building spray painted with homophobic and racial slurs. kron four's. dan thorn spoke with the school's principal about the hateful acts. 10 joins us live tonight in los gatos with more. dan, this is just harm. >> and that's right. grant the vandalism happening on the night of halloween eggs were also thrown. it pretty much all of thn buildings here on campus. the principal telling us that he is hurt and saddened by these actions. but he's hoping by getting the word out tonight that whoever did this will be given up. security video captured on the night of halloween shows at

least 3 groups of vandals defacing los gatos high school. the windows of school buildings were pelted with eggs and a prized 529 pound pumpkin was smashed. but what was most disturbing for principal. kevin buchanan was the spray painting of racist and homophobic slurs. it feels like a punch in the gut and a step rails a huge step backwards. >> as for trying increasing, you know, address equity and inclusion and understanding and awareness. >> buchanan says he understands the mischievous mood around halloween but hate and destruction is inexcusable. the principal has been calling on the high school community to come forward with information. well, police have been investigating the ax. it's a it's a social conscious commute. is an element that we need to stand up to and be a and >> teachers were also specifically targeted by the graffiti buchanan took over the high school as principal in july and says there have been challenges that are being

it was a bittersweet moment at oracle park today kron four's kylen mills was there joins us now live with a farewell. you know, his whole family was there you could tell even the reporters asking questions were were very sentimental and reflective. >> oh, yeah. the media's sentimental about saying goodbye to bust our talk to chris have to work for mlb dot com yesterday and actually the end of our interview. he was tearing up because. >> he was just like buster posey. such a special player to cover. he's a special person and that's something that was echoed by everyone who talk today. everyone from around the giants organization says the same thing. nothing but professionalism and a true leader catcher buster posey has been the heart and soul of the giants for the last 12 years. today, though, we saw an era come to an end. posey announced his retirement or call this afternoon and he said he wants to spend more time with his family. he also wants to allow his body to heal catchers, a very grueling position and 34 years old, posey put together an incredible career playing baseball's one of the toughest

positions. he won 3 world series titles. he was the 2012 nationally player of the year and was named an all-star 7 times, including this past season in 2021 posey batted 3 o 4 hit 18 home runs this past season while leading the giants to their best regular season record in franchise history. he said today that what that when he went into the season, he had no idea that it may be his last posey said he emptied the tank like he never has before. now he feels ready for a new chapter. >> it's about that time spent with family. the countless nights and days. pulling for your team riding the emotions of the highs riding the emotions of the lows and ultimately enjoying the people that you're west along the way and making great memories together i'm so very humbled to play the part and some of those memories. the fans. thank you for all your support. i received the last 13 seasons. now look forward to creating new memories of my own. and sharing them with family and friends. as i pull

for the giants are us my thank exactly years in maybe he's not the one who's who's talking the talk about it's just not favorite thing to do. so maybe that's a little bit everything else. how he cares for people. include everyone in his success. harvey gives credit to every everybody else out these of thoughtful. it is in the way he asks questions and responses might. there's really nothing different. it's it's the same. do. >> posey said he's looking forward to spending time with his wife and 4 children who were there today. aside from that he really doesn't have any big plans for his immediate future. he also said that the game is taking a toll on his body. it's been hard to enjoy time with his family when he's in pain. so often. now the giants front office emphasize how much posey has meant to this organization and to fans too. you guys like he just has been so much to

everyone and you know, it is bittersweet to say goodbye but will be exciting to see what he does. i know a lot of fans are wondering will he stay in the bay area. he said his plan his family does plan to move back to georgia. that's where he and his wife are from so a little bit sad there, but i'm sure there will be a pasar posey farewell tour. i'm sure that the giants will be honoring him. and in the days months to come and they have those there's a twins. those young twins which took last year off during covid. they were born prematurely. any said a lot of his family members in georgia haven't even met them. >> because of covid with the pandemic going on. yeah, they were there today, by the way. and their adorable. they are very big and healthy now. so. >> with preemies, it's a concern. but they want to be doing i could hear the door. a couple times where they were, you know, crawling around and stuff, but they actually are really well behaved. so also kudos to the postseason for, you know, having to 12 behave children's. it was an hour long press thanks cullen. >> all right. let's take a look at the 4 zone forecast as we are looking live over downtown san francisco

meteorologists. but bruce is joining us right now with a look at what's to come for the rest of the weekend. they were close to the weekend of recent i know. and it's never too early to celebrate friday saturday and sunday, right. because we are on eve. this is thursday night after all in the weekend. >> so close. so let's take a look at your radar for forecast because we are tracking dry, clear conditions and things of cooler air mass because of that lack of blanket of storm cloud cover that we had hovering over us last night. more storms heading our way, though, that storm door going to remain open. here's a look at grant's baby storm making its way into the north bay, possibly clipping santa rosa as early as saturday night. but really just traces amount of rain at best. we're going to stay dry all weekend long. a mixture of rain and snow showers saturday night through sunday morning for this but the main event that's going to arrive late monday afternoon. we're going to track remnants atmosphere,

river. most of it hanging north of the bay area. but fortunately, let's hope that storm track shifts a little bit southward could put those of you in santa rosa, though. but overall, we're going to see the bulk of the wet weather monday night through early tuesday morning by mid morning starting to break apart on tuesday by tuesday afternoon through tuesday evening. that's when they're going to see that storm dry out and exit to the east. but we're going to see pretty decent rain totals with this storm anywhere from half an inch to upwards of an inch of rain. highest amounts throughout the bay area coastline. but here's a great shot of golden gate bridge, not tracking any lower high cloud cover. widespread mid to upper 50's. 40's, though for most of our inland valleys in the north bay and east bay tonight cooling down because of that lack a blanket of cloud cover, but temperatures about 2 to 4 degrees below average low to mid 60's half moon bay 61 degrees for your daytime highs. and don't forget daylight saving time. this weekend we gain an hour of sleep. it takes me a day or

>> sanitize civilian community service officer was arrested last month on suspicion of gun crimes and has been arrested again this week for possession of child. denisha he worked as a civilian service officer for the san jose police department and police say that while they were doing a forensic examination of his electronic devices. they found photos and videos of child. an investigation under the current an earlier charges here does continue. stockton

high school student has been arrested after a handgun was found in his jacket. that boy is a student debt franklin high school. he had been taken to the principal's office. police say after being spotted vaping school officials say he refused to cooperate and and was searched a school officer found a loaded handgun in the pocket of his jacket along with ammunition in his backpack. the boy has been booked into juvenile hall. up next, we're learning more about the moments leading up to that fatal dui crash involving ex-raiders player. >> henry ruggs with new surveillance video is showing tonight. closer to home a car plunging into the pacific. look at that. why investigators think the guy behind the wheel who served 5 and was found clinging to the rocks might not be telling them the entire story. and then comedian dave chappelle, the embattled comedian the screenings. new documentary tonight at chase center in san

at chase gayle ong kron 4 news, thank you gayle in pacifica, a car punched 50 feet over a cliff and highway one. this was no double slide this morning. >> but not only did that driver survived he was able to walk away as chp officer saw the tire tracks coming up to the cliff, then spotted the car with the driver out in the water. a firefighter and a harness was lowered managed to rescue the man he reportedly had only minor scrapes. >> he's very lucky individual to say the least. our big concern, weaves kept asking him over and over is it are you the only occupant of that vehicle because as you saw that vehicles in the water upside down and we're noticing kids toys floating in water. so our big concern was it was there anybody else in that vehicle and he kept relaying that there he was only occupant. so it was a huge relief for us. >> the driver told the chp he had been driving the speed limit when he lost control of his car, although

investigators have not ruled out speeding. other possible factors. they say driver distraction and what roads. >> new surveillance footage tonight shows just how fast henry ruggs was driving. you see the surveillance video here right before he struck tina 10 tours suv killing her and her dog. this is early tuesday morning. we've slowed it down. it's just really a a blur. the surveillance videos from a nearby apartment. the vehicles going that way. it's according to prosecutors rugs was driving a 127 miles per hour when he hit the victim and they say he was going a 156 miles an hour. just 2 seconds before impact today. the victim's family tend to his family, said the loss is just devastated them. as you might imagine. they also said she was the light of her parents life and loved her 3 year-old golden retriever max. still ahead tonight at 9,
