golden state. >> is a major health public health problem that should be looked at like doubt. we should do everything can to. we do crashes. >> jan is survived by 2 children and grandchildren. so far no charges have been filed in the case. alameda police say the driver at the center of the investigation is cooperating with them. so far services are pending. we'll let you know. one final arrangements are made live tonight in the newsroom. jonathan mccall kron 4 news, thank you, jonathan. >> happening tomorrow the suspect charged for assaulting oakland's chinatown chamber of commerce president. we'll go to court for sentencing. in addition to assault. he was previously charged with a hate crime but those charges were since dropped karl chan. he saw him there sis. we'll be there to provide a victim's impact statement. however, groups like the anti police terror project plan to show up its support of dropping charges altogether citing mental illness can force taylor the second reports.

>> the demand for action plan at the alameda county courthouse on thursday, anti-police terror project and its allies are asking that all charges be dropped against 25 year-old james lee ramzy ramzy was charged in may with assault and a hate crime following the attack on oakland chinatown chamber of commerce president karl chan. however, the hate crime charges were later dropped several months later, chan says he was walking near chinatown running errands when ramsey suddenly came from behind him and hit him in the head of back in april on thursday. the district attorney's office has the option to ask the judge to sentence ramsey to serve his time in a secure, mental health facility or face up to 4 years in state prison. something kept brooks with the anti terror police project considers unethical. james ramsey. >> had not been on his medication for a month at the time of the assault he was in extreme psychiatric. 2 arrests. did not harm mister

>> he says there he will provide a victim impact statement and ramsey sentencing hearing in oakland taylor kron 4 news. >> never seen a in my 41 years here in las vegas, a of a person was charged with the crime driving in excess of a 150 miles an hour. >> we are learning new details about a crash involving former las vegas writer henry ruggs who made his first appearance in court today. the assistant da is revealing the drugs had been says that 156 miles an hour. just seconds before crashing into the back of a toyota rav 4. that car was being driven by 23 year-old tina temperature who was killed. police say they also found a loaded gun in drugs car and they say his blood alcohol level was still twice the legal limit 2 hours after the crash. the district attorney's office is awaiting now to see if evidence will

allow for the filing of another gun related charge. ruggs girlfriend also suffered injuries in the crash, meaning. >> he could be facing another dui charge sperry a criminal defense attorney paula canny says this is not a cut and dry criminal case. >> really d-ny cases. we're super complicated blood analysis is complicated. you know, breath analysis to determine blood alcohol content is complicated. i you know, i don't know what's going to happen because i don't know. i mean, if you're going to it may be if they're going to advance a defense that the reason the car was traveling. so fast is because there was a mechanical problem with the gas pedal. >> kenny says with the current charges, rugs is facing 2 to 20 years in prison. it could go up if more fences are added. ruggs is no longer listed on the clark county detention centers online

newsroom with details on which counties are offering shots and how parents can sign their children up. can. >> well, catherine, the santa clara county was the first to administer pfizer shots to the 5 to 11 age group. other counties will start rolling out vaccines later this week. contra costa county health officials say they've received about 20,000 doses. parents can get their kids vaccinated at health clinics in antioch concord and richmond starting on friday san francisco will start vaccinating children on saturday. the vaccines will be available at a 100 different sites set includes doctors offices pharmacies, community health clinics as well as neighborhood and school vaccine clinics. the san francisco unified school district will host 4 clinics of their own. the dates and times and locations are there on your screen. also this weekend cvs and walgreens pharmacies will start giving out the shots all over the bay area. we have a list of all the counties offering vaccines. it's posted on our

website. kron 4 dot com there you can find the links to sign up for an appointment in your neighborhood. live in the newsroom. ken wayne kron. 4 news. >> thank you. meanwhile, parents in santa clara county breathe a huge sigh of relief after getting their kids vaccinated today and kron four's rob fladebof witness some of those first shots. he brings us the story. >> a day after the covid-19 vaccine was officially approved for kids ages 5 to 11 many wasted no time getting vaccinated against covid-19. among the first to get the shot was 11 year-old. evan weinswig of menlo park. >> i was just completely excited. i just wanted it to happen right then and there and it was it. it was incredible. santa clara county is among the first in the region to offer the vaccinations at county run sites like the fairgrounds by day's end. the county expected to have vaccinated more than 2000 of the newly eligible kids will be no. this age

group is certainly had we don't yet know that much about the long-term effects of covid in this age group. >> so i am happy to see that they'll have an added layer of protection. >> the fairgrounds, another county run sites are by appointment only so far mobile clinics will offer doses near schools beginning thursday. a little dose vaccine for kids requires 2 shots, 3 weeks apart. we anticipate that we'll have enough vaccine enough capacity among the different vaccine providers in our county to be able to accomplish vaccination of this group within the next several weeks. >> some of the kids needed a little coaxing to sit still for the shot. >> but there were coloring books play areas consider its staff to make the experience less scary. but for the most part, the rule of was a smooth one with both children and their parents eager to get the shot as a step toward getting back to normal we've definitely talked a lot about it you know, his older brother was already vaccinated to felt really left out. he really was looking forward to the day that they would approve this

sooner than about 8 weeks after the vaccine is available to kids at a virtual town hall tuesday. san francisco health officer doctor susan philip addressing the future of children and vaccine mandates in the city. so there will be a limited time in which there will not be those requirements are planned, but that at some point 5 to 11 year-olds will also have to show proof of vaccination to access some of those same setting. i think we this special time. >> it's it's snow dc jose gent and his family are visiting san francisco from argentina where they follow a similar vaccine mandate in argentina. you have to prove that you'll receive your vaccine. >> due to vote for the time into the theater to put on my will also carry much, his 12 year-old daughter received her covid vaccine last month. >> we'll get a think it is important. children should receive the covid shot. he is more concerned about a vaccine mandate at schools. then

>> yeah. catherine grant, the ice skating rink is a huge step forward for union square, which has been struggling throughout the covid-19. pandemic. but that's the only that's not the only thing that visitors will be able to find here. you'll be able to enjoy the holiday lights displays. the christmas trees. when you're out holiday shopping and some of the people we talked with today telling us this is the cheer and the joy that the city really needs. skaters gliding across the ice in union square. it's a sight that's been missing since the holiday season of 2019. the return of the ice rink is much welcomed news that's going to come out and finally have a good time and kind of enjoy the holidays a little last. >> last year. i didn't get to see my family at all. you to stay home and a head christmas through facetime holiday cheer is beginning to fill the city's high-end shopping district let reads filling store front windows letting people know gift giving is right around the corner. it's great i feel

>> you know, holiday and then my son is the ice skating with that kids after school program. i feel good to be here. >> union square has seen some store fronts close up over the last 20 months, the pandemic putting a squeeze on businesses. some of them experienced skyrocketing shoplifting like this organized snatching grabbed in june where several people stole a number of luxury handbags union square hotels also saw a significant drop in guests. the prices for rooms nearly cut in half. but with the reopening of the ice skating rink and the flurry of offense to follow. visitors are getting the feeling things are improving and it's just what the city needs. glad to see everyone everybody keeps >> with the life and being with the people, friends and family that you love. >> well, the ice skating rink here in union square will be open throughout the holidays closing most nights at 11 o'clock, 19 bucks gets you on the ice and also some skates.

but this is going to be a weak storm that we are tracking this evening with the atmosphere river set to get some influence from some possible hawaiian moisture and also typhoon moisture imbedded within that storm. now it looks like the timing of the 3rd stronger storm could be as early as tuesday morning. but first let's take a look at tonight's wet weather because we are going to see right around midnight light to moderate downpours. for those of you in santa rosa. that storm is going to make its track from the northwest to the southeast by 2 o'clock for your thursday morning. that's when we're going to notice light scattered showers throughout most of the san francisco peninsula and even throughout the east bay and then it's going to ship by 3, 4 o'clock in the morning into the east bay and then eventually making its way into the south bay before it eventually exit by midmorning on thursday and then drier and clear conditions by thursday afternoon. so most of us expecting about a quarter of an inch of rain or less santa

rosa, you could easily see upwards of a 3rd of an inch of wet weather. but the northwest portion of the north bay. about half an inch of rain or less. and then by saturday, we are tracking some more scattered showers first in the north bay and then arriving for the rest of the bay area saturday afternoon and evening about a 10th of an inch of rain or less with this storm sunday increase in cloud cover with the approaching storm continuing through monday and then here's a look at our atmosphere influence tuesday morning. arriving along the coast really peaking by tuesday afternoon until it eventually starts to become scattered and then make its way out of the bay area by wednesday. but from now. until then, enjoy that increase in cloud cover and also tracking some mild temperatures tonight. widespread 50's and 60's turning into mid to upper 50's tonight. but then temperatures tomorrow, 48 degrees cooler with nevado the warmest city in the low 70's. but just barely and then we

the busiest time of year. this is when they say the demand for meals just skyrockets. but as kron four's phillipe reports a local food bank is expecting the need will only grow in coming months. >> work never stops at the alameda county community food, bank thanksgiving is around the corner christmas and other major holidays not far behind. and there is no time to waste for volunteers and staff. >> food insecure families are relying thankfully right now. we are meeting to demand by the end of the year. food bank spokesperson michael offense says the nonprofit organization will have distributed for 48 million meals. a major jump from the 28 million meals that average per year prior to the pandemic part of the pandemic. and with that one in county, residents was experiencing some level under. >> as we sit here today with unemployment rate still what it was before the pandemic. we estimate at least one in county. residents is still in need of some fest says the

reports. >> i'm lucky. i'm really, really lucky. >> for rose fun. hoffman kersey is talking about how just before sunrise on ack saturday morning. well, she's seen bears in a north tahoe neighborhood before and even snapped these photos. this is the first time she's founded there inside her cabin rifling through her freezer. >> it happened so fast. so fast. very little. it's oh, my gosh. it's a bear. and by the time that gotten to my brain. i was being torn apart in the dark. >> eventually the bear went downstairs and out the door. but the damage had been done and hoffman christie's body was covered in blood and bruises and puncture wounds. >> i have a little angel i don't know why i survived. >> state wildlife officials collected forensic evidence from the bite wounds in hopes of getting a dna profile of the bear. they also set up a

declined to file charges against the suspect. the shooting happened at the home of goers, city council member rebecca, our degrees that was on saturday. the house on las animas avenue. one teenager was killed. 3 other teens were injured. police arrested 19 year-old benjamin calderon over the weekend. he is the second cousin to the council member, the da's office is asking anybody with information to contact police. >> a chef food sometimes feeds the homeless in the east bay says his food truck was stolen. it. he believes this theft was targeted chef. a little guy says it was still around 07:00am monday from in front of his apartment on newton avenue and oakland's lake merritt district. guys. neighbors called him while he was out grocery shopping and told him. 2 guys were checking out his gear. >> hey, i see someone by a trailer if in a loaded onto the truck. looks like you. but i'm not sure, you know, is

attraction on the ohio indian reservation and really heroic of him. witnesses say the zip line employee fell more than 70 feet after he was. >> pulled off the platform. well, trying to help secure a ride or just a horrible accident. it sounds like reporter chip yost says the county. ow from san diego -- >> cell phone video shot by a witness shows the tragic moments before a man fell from a zip line on the la jolla indian reservation in palma valley on saturday. a family member identified the man as 34 year-old joaquin romero and told fox 5 he died from his injuries monday morning sharp memorial. the family member says rivera worked at the la jolla zip line. a popular attraction on the reservation. one of the 3 zip lines is seen in this video from a fox 5 story in 2018, the courses range from 300 to 2700 feet in length at speeds up to 55 miles per hour. according to the witness who shot this cell phone video romero was helping a woman get hooked on the
