booster shots that are now available from pfizer, moderna and johnson and johnson kron four's charles clifford was at the governor's event today. he joins us now live. the details. good afternoon to you, charles. >> hello there. here in california about 73% of the population has been coronavirus cases have been dropping for weeks. but there is concern that in the winter months ahead, we could see another surge in cases. so the governor health officials are making a push to get everyone possible vaccinated and to try to give people boosters. wednesday morning. governor newsom visited asian health services here in oakland, the governor also received a covid-19 booster shot. health officials and the governor pushing for everyone who is eligible to receive a booster to get one under cdc guidelines. anyone 18 or older who originally was given the one-dose johnson and johnson vaccine more than 2 months ago. can now get a booster. anyone who initially received the 2 doses of pfizer or moderna more than 6 months ago

needs to be 65 years or older. have an underlying medical condition or work in a high-risk setting in order to qualify for a booster shot will get through this. we're making progress. we're turning the corner. >> let's get these boosters. let's continue to be vigilant. let's continue to reach out those that may be on the fence that may be hesitant about getting a vaccine encourage them to get a vaccine. we still have so many unvaccinated californians kids as well. new variants new concerns about. factions in this and transmits ability that we need to keep our guard up now on wednesday, the governor received a booster dose of moderna even though he originally got the one dose of johnson and johnson. he did that on purpose. >> to show that health officials say it's okay to mix and match vaccines. if that's your only option. >> all right. back live now. that is the very latest here in oakland. charles clifford kron, 4 news, thank you so much, charles. >> and now that the united states is one step closer to approving the emergency use of the pfizer vaccine for kids, 5 to 11 years old, santa clara

county is now outline its plans and how it will roll out the shots. kron four's, maureen kelly tells us this could happen as early as next week. >> we should have shots in arms hopefully if everything works out by next wednesday and thursday, santa clara county health department is already gearing up for the possibility of getting shots into those little arms next week while older residents got their boosters or even first shots today at the county fairgrounds just steps away. a mirror image mass vaccination site stands ready and empty while they were halloween decorations up today. a physician's assistant says they are planning a scavenger hunt. >> and other activities for kids to help calm their nerves will have coloring books stickers. >> blow up some pretty fun activities for the children to kind of help ease them in the situation that they're coming here for. >> the vaccines that those kids ages 5 to 11 years old will get are going to be a smaller amount about a 3rd of the dose that adults get.

they're not here yet. 55,000 kids shots are expected to arrive sometime next week here in santa clara county in anticipation that it will get final approval for emergency use by the government next week. there are a 166,000 children in that age range living in santa clara county. so they won't all be able to get their shots at once. for those parents who are still hesitant. doctor marty fenstersheib of the santa clara county health department points out that just because younger kids tend not to get as sick when infected with coronavirus this population has not been completely spared during the pandemic there been 8300 hospitalizations and a 3rd of those were in intensive care units. >> i'm in this country and that also that complication of an inflammatory condition is definite very is definitely very real. there's also been a issues and cases of long-term covid in these kids. so i think it's it's definitely of

a benefit to get the vaccine for the children because the risk of the disease are much worse than the vaccine side effects which are minimal. >> in addition here at the county fairgrounds. the shots will also be made available at community clinics private doctors offices, pharmacies and some school sites. maureen kelly kron 4 news. >> state health officials are saying today they're also ready to vaccinate children between the ages of 5.11. as soon as the fda makes that call and marine county is saying it is ready to respond miller creek school is gearing up to host 6 weekend vaccination clinics for young kids. the county's hoping to vaccinate about 15,000 kids within the first month of the vaccine's approval. many parents that we talked with says, but they can't wait to get their kids vaccinated. >> well, we need we need some some sort of a semblance of a herd immunity right in the schools as well is happening when they come home and they

>> now to a big story we're watching investigators in new mexico say they've recovered firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition from the movie set where alec baldwin accidently shot and killed a similar but hogg rougher reporter kareen wynter brings us the latest. >> no one has been ruled out at this point. the santa fe district attorney responding to questions about whether actor alec baldwin could face charges in the deadly shooting on the set of his movie rust in new mexico where while

rehearsing a scene baldwin accidentally shot cinematographer halyna hutchins and wounded director joel souza. all options are on the table at this point. i'm not take i'm not commenting on charges whether they will be filed or not or on him. so the answer is we we cannot answer that question yet. until we complete a more thorough investigation. the santa fe county sheriff also indicating that they suspect there were other live rounds that were found on set, although he wouldn't comment on how they got there, saying that further analysis was being conducted and an fbi crime lab in virginia. the sheriff did confirm that it was baldwin who fired that fatal shot. we also believe that we have the spent shell casing. >> from the bullet that was fired from the gun. the actual projectile that was fired has been recovered from the shoulder of mister souza. according to a search warrant released today armor hannah gutierrez-reed told detectives she checked dummy bullets a day of the shooting to make sure there were no hot rounds and that while the weapons

used in the movie shoot for in a secure location during a crew lunch break. there was also ammunition that was left on a cart that was not secured. >> authorities are currently interviewing dozens of witnesses, including those who inspected or handle the firearm when it was loaded before it was given to baldwin who they say they're still questioning and remains cooperative in this investigation. >> that was kareen wynter reporting for us today and statements to authorities that were made. hannah gutierrez-reed also said that no live ammo was ever kept on the set. happening today. tickets go on sale for a dave chappelle show at chase center in san francisco. this is coming amid controversy surrounding the comedian following his latest netflix special that many say is transphobic kron four's. caleb arco is outside chase center with the story. >> people are talking about the comedian's netflix controversial special, including the comedian himself. he says several film festivals have canceled him but not netflix or the chase center. he's coming here next

month to debut his new film, which is not related to the netflix special chappelle is screening. his untitled documentary. the film follows him in a series of live shows in his hometown during the covid-19 pandemic. and after the murder of george floyd the show here at the chase center will also feature live performances from the comedian and other guest. >> but before announcing his store earlier this month. chappelle released a netflix series called the closer the special game hate after some people say he may transphobic comments. netflix employees even walked out last week in protest of his comedy special. here's video of them rallying protesters demand in netflix, better support its transgender and non-binary employees. now in a new stand-up video chappelle addressed the backlash, the comedian remained unapologetic about the special saying, quote, i said what i said. however, he says he is willing to meet with the transgender community but won't bend to anyone's

one right along the california coast. according to caltrans, the closure extends from north of the rag point in in san luis obispo county to the gorda in in monterey county. the rocks above the highway are being assessed right now by caltrans. and they think that this stretch of road is likely going to be closed for one week. let's talk now about our weather forecast as we're drying out here, taking a look at a very pretty picture loan golden gate bridge. that's very warm out there today and our meteorologist john trouble has the forecast as we look towards the weekend. >> well, tahoe looking just as sunny as the bay area is today. little snowier up there in those higher elevations, though, this a beautiful view at diamond peak. and as we work our way through the day today. we have looked at a lot of sunshine up ahead and you do obviously notice all that snow. that is still hanging on to those slopes up there. we do some of our resorts at tahoe opening up. if not this

weekend on up into the upcoming weeks ahead of us. so that is very welcome to see product of what we saw just a couple of days ago, which is that heavy rain and mountain snow fall. we're back into a ridge of high pressure. now this is going to keep us dry as we work our way through the rest of the day today on into tomorrow and friday to start the holiday weekend as we work our way through the rest of your afternoon. do expect conditions out there to be breezy at times. but this actually a pretty calm day compared to where we have been futurecast shows clear skies during our evening hours tonight as well as into tomorrow. so if you've enjoyed the sunshine that we've seen for your wednesday. you're really going to like thursday actual little bit warmer than today on into tomorrow. friday is looking right around the same as today has been as far as today's daytime highs go, it 60's and 70's out there that we're enjoying as we're venturing outside for the rest of the afternoon. tonight's evening lows are going to get kind of chilly so you can venture outside obviously and continue to enjoy the rest of your day today with the 70's for a lot of the bay area. but

>> for your money this afternoon. gas prices just keep going up. and today the national average for a gallon of gas reach $3 and $0.39. that is one $1.24 more than this time last year and republicans are blaming the biden administration, but they're labeling the biden injured energy crisis. our dc correspondent anna wiernicki has more now from capitol hill. >> gas prices, jumped wednesday to $3 and $0.39 per

gallon. wyoming. republican senator john barrasso says that means that this year you spend about $25 more every time you fill up your tank. that's a pretty big bite. a painful bite out of somebodys paycheck brasil and senate republicans are blaming the price jump on president biden's energy policies. stay number one in office. he killed the keystone xl pipeline. he then put a moratorium on oil and gas leases on public lands which affect many of our states. but the administration says the price jump at the pump is a result of the global fuel shortage. white house press secretary jen psaki says the president plans to address his concerns when he travels overseas this weekend and that's something that certainly can do on the international stage and there's a power of the president, the united states engage in on that front. but republicans say the president needs to focus on producing more affordable energy here at home. produce more jobs. it will help bring down the prices. and i think make the world less dependent on countries like saudi arabia

has details on this proposal. >> democrats say they want to make sure billionaires pay their fair share of taxes. people who. >> and 10's of billions of dollars. but we with appreciated stock don't pay anything on that appreciation. oregon senator ron wyden wants to start taxing tradable assets like stocks that increase in value but haven't yet been sold. senator mark warner says billionaires frequently use loans from those holdings to avoid taxes. if that's the way to finance their lifestyle. >> i view that as a closing a tax loophole. the new taxes would only apply to people who have more than 1 billion dollars in assets or who make more than 100 million dollars in income for 3 consecutive years. california congressman pete aguilar says the texas raised would help pay for measures like free universal preschool child tax credits and about 500 billion dollars to fight climate change. the president committed.
