waking up with us. the day after july 4th. >> which would make it the 5th and the monday, which a lot of people have off. let's see if the weather is going to cop to cooperate. hi, john hay. daria, we are going to be looking at another nice one today. i know it's back to the great we go this morning. but that's a sign of some of the cooler weather that we can look forward to for inland valleys come this afternoon. we also saw this great last night. if you're watching our kron 4 fireworks spectacular yet noticed it as some of those fireworks or a little bit shrouded in it this morning. it's actually resulting in some drizzly spots to which does mean wet conditions on a few areas of your roadways to know. as for san francisco this morning, a bit of a coastal breeze. pretty evident. and of course that great. you can't miss that either. it's going to hang out with us the next few hours. we get the sunshine this afternoon. good chance to get out there if you do have the day off, especially and enjoy it a little bit 50's and 60's for current temps, livermore fremont hayward oakland and fairfield among areas right at 60 right now. erica.
>> thank you, john. well, our bay area bridges have been excellent however, other places, not so much. we have a sig alert that was issued here in dublin and lanes are still blocked from this multi vehicle accident that happened about an hour ago. it involved a big rig. so just a heads up. if you're out there, you can see the red that's some heavy traffic. lot of cars piling up and that area asked for. to 80 northbound in san francisco near the mariposa street. exit. there was another vehicle collision in the sig alert was issued as well for that. we do still have some lanes blocked out there. but as you can see here looking much different than a normal workday. when we see way more cars out there seems a lot of people are still sleeping from the weekend. the san mateo bridge is looking excellent in both directions. we haven't seen any problems all morning. it's only 13 minutes out to one o one. if you're heading in that direction and the 4 here from antioch to concord under 15 minutes for tribe
time as for interstate 8080, from san leandro to milpitas is just 19 minutes. we are in the green up and down the south bay and the peninsula to 80 there from san jose out to cupertino just 21 minutes thanks a lot. 8. '02, and the big story this morning is the big risk of fireworks which continues. >> around the bay. here is a look at we have new video of illegal fireworks going off in the east bay, the contra costa county fire protection district responded to more than 50 fires overnight. many sparked by fireworks kron four's. julius evans is live in martinez world live our broke out near highway 6.80. we could see the damage there. yoli. >> yeah, you can this burn fat that you could also see as i zoom out how close it got to this neighborhood over here on a raw circle in martinez. let's show you the video of the fire. now, this far. it
was so big. you can see it. the smoke just billowing out and you can see it from 6.80 feet freeway. >> if you listen closely, you can also faintly hear fireworks in the background as firefighters battled the fire and cut down the brush on the hillside. there were no injuries reported on this fire. but this is. was one of 48 grass fires that the contra costa fire department responded to last night. in fact, at 1.9 exterior and vegetation fires were currently burning at the same time across the district causing the contra costa fire department to form a 3rd task force to address the fires. now the bulk of the fires that they battled last night was in the 09:10pm which was when when this fire occurret here on row circle. now the fire department responded to 37 grass fires and exterior fires and 5 structure fires within that 2 hour span.
>> most if not several these of fires are known or suspected to have been started all right. thanks a lot. you know lee, it's good thing nobody was hurt in san francisco. illegal fireworks. >> we're going off all night. some parts of the city. firefighters put out for fires in this map shows you where they were 20th and irving streets 19th and york streets 3rd and kirkwood avenue and 19th and bryant streets. nobody was hurt in any of those either. and new this morning, firefighters are mopping up the fire at this warehouse and oakland. you can see crews hitting it from above and the flames shooting through the roof in this building in the 900 block of 7th avenue. the fire broke out at about 02:00am firefighters did put it out and nobody was hurt. but witnesses say they heard fireworks right before this fire started, the used 11
engines. they responded this one. they want to make sure didn't spread. and check out this fire in building on 42nd street and telegraph in oakland fires. she is shooting flames shooting from the roof there. and that was that one burn hot. 03:00am. >> good thing fire crews got a hold of that as well. got a handle on it before anybody was hurt. the fireworks were also heard right before that one starts. in concord, there was a wildfire near the concord pavilion. >> that paused the professional fireworks show that was going on. firefighters quickly put out that small fire and then the fireworks show was allowed to resume. in the south bay fire crews don't want you setting off any. left over illegal fireworks that you have today because we all saw what happened all around the bay yesterday getting caught with illegal fireworks will caution kron four's. taylor's sacking has more. >> san jose. firefighters want you to remember this image
with extremely dry conditions, the risks of starting a fire or much higher number in a drought. right now we're seeing very dry conditions foothills and along our freeways. so, you know, we know that all it takes is one spark from an illegal firework to start a fire that greatly impacts our communities air with the san jose fire department hopes they don't see a repeat of last year. last year in 2020. you know, for various reasons and we did see big spike in illegal fireworks use and that stretched our department beyond its and we every station was responding to calls that evening of the 4. if you're caught with illegal fireworks. ray says it will now cost you more in the city of san jose. the santa is is now now has among the highest fines for illegal fireworks use a first violation starts at $1000 escalates to 2004 2nd in 3,000 for 3rd, the city. also expanding on a social host ordinance this year. so. whereas we would typically prior we would need to
identify a specific individual who is setting off illegal fireworks now a liability is expanded to the property owner and social host. if you're hosting a gathering where illegal fireworks are being used. he could be liable for fines. in addition to fees associated with any emergency response. and if you see someone setting off illegal fireworks. the fire department asks that you make a report online or call 3, 1, 1, >> in san jose taylor kron 4 news. it's taking the peninsula now where sheriff's deputies arrested a man setting off illegal fireworks in menlo park. >> and actually the fireworks were detected by a gunshot detection system in the south. a fair oaks neighborhood. so the deputies got there. and that's where they found 30 year-old fernando compost. he was arrested and booked for possession of illegal fireworks. in the east bay contra. costa county police have arrested 3 people for selling illegal fireworks. look at all of this. more than 250 pounds confiscated one man arrested brentwood police found additional fireworks at
his home in antioch. in national news, president biden celebrated his administration's progress against the coronavirus in his first speech on july 4th. he urged americans to keep it up and get vaccinated to protect against deadly variants. our dc correspondent kellie meyer has more. >> america is coming back together. this 4th of july. president joe biden is sharing just how much there is to celebrate her back. see one another again. businesses are opening and hiring again with military families essential and frontline workers on the south lawn. the president touted the country's progress against covid-19 and thank them for making that progress possible today we're closer than ever to the dependence from a deadly virus. the president didn't downplay the seriousness of new variants that could reverse that progress. any urged americans to get vaccinated as he fall

bayside cities burlingame at a nice 7475 in foster city. redwood city. you'll be at comfortably. warm. 80 degrees pretty similar for the south bay too. east bay highs 70's to a tease for you. you know where those 80's are a little further inland. while right along the bay shore. most of our 70's oakland at 70 degrees while concord 84 antioch in vacaville in the low 90's today while santa rosa in sandra fell at 70 degrees. 79 degrees each. looking ahead. our next 7 days show a lot of change actually going on here. we've been in this holding pattern of mild but warm conditions today, tomorrow and wednesday. we keep that going after that, though, we start to see this in this inland breeze running out that's going to transport less cool. coastal air inland and by thursday and friday, hot inland valleys back into the 90's. triple digit heat returns into saturday and sunday. erica. >> thank you, john live been keeping my eye on this traffic collision out in dublin that first happened at 6.30 this morning involving a big looks like it's getting a little
better, but still there is a lane closed. so this is westbound again near haas and a drive big rig accident out there. asked for our bay area. bridges has been looking excellent like this whole morning. i wish it was always like this. as you can see, usually this time of the morning. there's tons of cars on the road. but that's not the case today as we still have a lot of people at home sleeping, not a lot of people out on the roads this morning. the golden gate bridge. also looking smooth in both directions. it's only 19 minutes heading out to the toll plaza as for one. oh, one in the north bay. the peninsula and the south bay. we are in the green looking good as well. just 27 minutes from san jose out to menlo park. here's a look at some of our other drive times on interstate 6.80, pacheco to danville. just 11 minutes and on interstate 2.80, from san jose out to cupertino just 22

orange now. it's west bound. 5.80. near haas the end a drive. we lanes blocked earlier. but just a minor delay right now. it's starting to get better out in dublin. as for the rest of our bay area, roads not picking up any major hot spots. we are in the green. as you can see here on state route. 4, 4 looking at 15 minutes from antioch to concord. >> and interstate 5.80, from liverman livermore to dublin just 11 minutes, morgan hill to san jose. a quick drive time of under 10 minutes. >> 32 in the east say the threat of wildfires sparked by fireworks remains even though the july 4th holiday is over. there are concerns that people might set off more fireworks today. kron four's camila barco has the latest from our end. >> officials are cracking down on illegal fireworks they are not allowed here in contra, costa county and in other parts of the bay area. contra,
costa county fire reports 40 people have lost their homes this year alone firework related incident. a parade lit up the city of orinda to celebrate the nation's birthday after covid shut down last year's festivities. >> and now we're live here where there are people and they can like take off and it's just it's really great city. where is enjoying it with family and away from the fireworks will probably be making like hot cakes. as i said earlier, normally we do some sort of a game while her the 4th of july on. so normally probably knew that and face time relatives. >> this is video from last year when people blasted illegal fireworks across the bay area during the 4th of july weekend fire departments in northern california are pleading for people not to like them this year. obviously we're always concerned the fireworks.
>> especially this year as our fuels are drier than normal stat as fuels are it spreads quickly. so it gets farther out front. in the meantime, police are on the lookout for any rule breakers. >> what you're seeing is more than 800 pounds of illegal fireworks neighborhood watch groups helped hayward pd, take them off the streets. has a long and continues officials urge people to celebrate with caution in orinda camila barco kron 4 news. >> an east bay, a 35 acre grass fire burning near clayton in pittsburgh is contained now you can see, though, is sending a lot of smoke through the area and it took crews about 6 hours to get that fire under control and they say it started from a car fire near kercher pass road and norton bill road. in the south bay. 5 people don't have a home this morning because there's burned up in a mobile home park fire in the san jose 200 block of south jackson avenue is where 2 homes were severely damaged by
the fire and one was destroyed. crews got it under control quickly and nobody was hurt and they're not sure what started that fire. on the peninsula. investigators also, they are working right now to identify a body that washed ashore on pasco state beach and san mateo county. the body was found yesterday. investigators believe that it had been in the water for some time. we do not know and identity don't even know the of the body that was found at this point. take a look at this. in the east bay. new video from a kron 4 viewer and it shows us a coyote. where's the coyote on the streets of el serino. kron. 4 viewer spotted the animal yesterday. do you guys see it there it is. there it right in front of a white picket fence. corner of mosier and king drive was the last, but it was seen, according to the california department of fish and wildlife. if you see a coyote,
you definitely want to keep kids in small pets away make loud noises because that will scare away the coyote. and don't you approach them. but don't run. there's a fine line between panic and being loud. there's been a recent spike in crime at target stores in san francisco. that's led the company to announce there juiced their hours at various locations in the city. kron four's. maureen kelly has more. >> you can hear the shrinking of alarms going off in this video sent to us showing an alleged shoplifter making for the exit as an employee tales behind at the stonestown target. the retailer giant is so sick of being a target of thieves. all 5 of their san francisco locations will temporarily operate from 09:00am to 06:00pm outside of the city. most targets open up around 07:00am or 08:00am and stay open until 10 o'clock at night. >> here's what one shopper had to say about these new shorter hours here in the city i see
the east many people working. they need. >> the full gang hours. he says the greasing all the economy. >> there is no timeline for when the restrictions will be lifted as to why. in a statement, a spokesperson for target says for more than a month they've been experiencing quote, a significant and alarming rise in theft and security incidents similar to reports from other retailers in the area. here's video showing shoplifters swarming last fall at a walgreens in the city. one of several that have since closed because of excess of theft. the ceo of the california retailers association says much of this is being driven by organized crime rings and while the governor put aside nearly 6 million dollars in his most recent budget to continue funding a statewide task force to try to root out the problem more needs to be done operating these crime rings. that's what we have to go after the way do that too, is to make sure that these petty crimes in these things that are going on in san francisco
