developing story this morning out of alameda where an off duty sheriff's deputy fatally shot a gunman who was trying to rob a grocery store near the corner of high street and santa clara avenue. kron four's mike pelton is live at the "bonfare market" mike >>: the deputy shot and killed one of the suspect and the others fled the scene of the police say that deputy might have saved several lives. >> many times someone goes through incident like this even if it's justified, it can be very difficult for the officer involved anytime you take a human life. it weighs on you even if it's

just a fight. pierre we will continually be checking on the deputy. >> i just learned that the deputy involved in this shooting is a 20 year veteran. he will be placed on three days paid administration leave. as for the suspect there is not a good description but they say he might be suffering from a gunshot wound. police are checking with nearby hospitals to see if anyone has said that with a gunshot wound. >>darya: thank you mike. the investigation continues this morning into a fatal officer involved shooting in vacaville. it all started around 7:00 last night when police got a call about a suspicious man in south vacaville. officers responded and tried to talk to the man.

but he refused and instead led them on a brief car chase. it ended with the suspect getting out of his car and charging officers with three weapons. including a knife and a hammer. that's when police opened fire. killing him. the man's identity has not been released. no one else was injured. >>james:a community is mourning the death of an eight-year-old oakland girl. we brought you this tragic story live on the kron 4 morning news yesterday. here is what we know. no arrests have made and police don't have a suspect or a motive.

they say a man knocked on the door of an apartment just before 11:30 on wednesday night on the 34- hundred block of wilson avenue. met then opened fire on the people inside. 8-year-old alaysha carradine was shot and later died at children's hospital oakland. she was visiting her friend but for a sleep-over. gettwo other children were also wounded. so was their 64-year-old grandmother. police investigating the

shooting say they are determined to catch the killer. abou40 people gathered at a vigil to remember the 8 year old girl. coming up at 7:15 we will have a live report from the home of the shooting and more on what the community is saying about the violence. butthe san mateo county corner's office will release the results today on how one of the asiana victim died. the report will reveal whether 16-year-old ye mengyuan was killed in the crash or run over by an emergency vehicle.

asiana flight 214 crash- landed at s-f-o on july 6th, killing three people and injuring dozens. the n-t-s-b is still trying to figure out the cause of the crash, but intial investigation show that the not plane was flying too low at dangerously slow speeds. community members gathered near the apartment last night for a vigil. mahlerkron four's will tran is live in oakland with more, >>will: that's the front door. there are about a dozen teddy bears and stuffed animals out front. that's where a suspect came in and shot at least 10 times through the door. unfortunately, it was about 1130 the on wednesday night carried three kids and ran to the door and closing this girl here. here is her pitcher. still it was a place dates sleepover. she has been dozens of time over here. we talked with our family and they said they've had no problems are and to dance with any of the other time she's been here. one she won it 2 come over here to her friends and to she

and >>darya: said police are continuing to search for suspects that vandalize downtown oakland during three nights of protests following the not guilty verdict. nine people were arrested during those protests, three of them have been charged of their crimes already. police have released a new photos of some of the vandals who have not been identified. take a look at this period of social demands standing in front of oakland store, one of the businesses where the windows were broken. and there is a foot of another suspected vandals. you could see his face as-a-he's running away from the scene. police have released the spot and others in the hopes they can get some help in identifying the vandals. we will take a quick break and return with more headlines.

during the monday protests, >>darya:trayvon martin's parents are talking about the acquittal of george zimmerman. the florida man found not guilty in their 17-year-old son's death. they talked to cnn's anderson cooper about how they're coping. trayvon's mother says she felt she needed to sit through every day of the trial, because her son was not there to speak for himself. florida's governor says he is not willing to ask state lawmakers to change florida's ""stand your ground"" law but he says he will listen to ideas on how to stop racial profiling. the governor met yesterday with some of the protesters

who have been camping out at his office following the acquittal of george zimmerman. >>james:homeland seurity secretary janet napolitano has been confirmed as the new president of the university of california system. some students weren't happy about that -- citing her role in deporting illegal immigrants during the obama administration. 6 students who refused to leave were handcuffed and arrested. one was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. napolitano is the first female president of the u-c system. she defended her track record on immigration, saying she's been an advocate for the federal dream act. she'll get a salary of 570

thousand dollars a year. negotiators for bart and it's unions will be back at the bargaining table this morning. contract talks are set to resume at 9:00. as we've reported, both sides still seem far apart on an agreement. union leaders have threatened to strike again if a new contract isn't hammered out by august 4th. workers say they are prepared to walk off the job for much longer than the four days we saw at the beginning of the month. we'll keep you updated on the negotiations.

>>james: wrote we are back in 739. san francisco has seen a rise in bicycle thefts as more people choose that as a mode of transportation. a new report found that bike thefts are up 70- percent since 2006 with 817 reported thefts last year. the soma and the tenderloin districts have the highest number followed by the mission district. police recovered 864 bikes last year. they're kept in a warehouse
