yesterday for anyone who went to the football game like gianna and i. but we have some rain in the forecast now. we do. we definitely need that rain and it is coming our way. grab the rain jackets, the umbrellas. you will need it later today. it is a dry start and we are also looking at mainly clear skies. it is also chilly. bundle up we are down to the 30s, 40s, 50s as we kick off our monday. let's walk you through the day in san francisco, we are looking at a cool day with clouds, 60 degrees for a high temperature and there we go with the rain returning at 5:00 p.m. in oakland, 62 for a high. there we go this evening with the rain returning by 5:00 and for concord, inland east bay, you will see rain later by 7:00 p.m. and south bay, san jose, also with that rain for you. we'll talk about what you can expect with that widespread rain coming our way. i will show you futurecast. let's check with gianna. i know you are tracking a few

>> o880 is causing a lits. south 880, fremont into milpitas. expect delays. you can see 680 runs adjacent parallel to 880. that's a good alternate to avoid the brake lights along the nimitz freeway. there is no word when the lanes will clear. chp did issue a traffic alert. it was a vehicle that spun out in lanes and hit other cars. metering lights are on and we are seeing back up building for the ride out of the east bay into the city. i will have your travel times in my next report. i am anne makovec at the live news desk with an update on the water main break on the peninsula. it is in belmont. the good news is water service is back on. taking a live look at the scene, the pipe is still broken and that is affecting traffic

this morning. traffic is down to one lane east bound through the rest of the morning commute and here is belmont police. the water was flowing, thisrk, blocks west of 82. it did cause minor flooding and they did have to cut off the water supply for a few hours. there is no word when the lanes will reopen or when the pipe will be repaired. >> thank you. today u.s. is opening borders to international travelers but they have to be fully va x'd. >> this follows restrictions that have been in place for more than a year and a half. joycelyn moran is live with the impact this can have locally. >> reporter: more than a year and a half of restrictions. for families this means more than a year and a half of not seeing loved ones.

also having international travelers coming through this airport, sfo, also means local businesses and restaurants are expected to be benefiting. this ban was imposed by former president trump due to covid-19 and since, it's prevented nonu.s. citizens in more than 30 countries from entering u.s. with the ban now lifted under these new rules, international travelers who are fully vaccinated can enter u.s. if they show proof of vaccination and negative covid-19 test taken within three calendar days of travel. tourism industry has suffered but they're getting ready for a boost in business including in the bay area. fair mont hotels and resorts spokes woman says international travelers can make up 20 to 25% of the customer base so this is a big deal. >> our phones were ringing. we had already received sales department, they had received people ready to book. >> reporter: this comes as we approach the holidays and

airlines as well as small businesses are also expected to benefit. we'll have more on that in the next 30 minutes. more good news for families gathering for thanksgiving should be safe this year. >> vaccinating young kids will help make it possible. >> justin andrews is live in the newsroom with the details. a big change from this time last year. >> reporter: absolutely especially after many of us were unsure and even scared to gather last year. now with the vaccine widely available to most americans, we can certainly enjoy that family time. former commissioner of the food and drug administration who serves as pfizer board member said yesterday during face the nation that families can safely gather with partially vaccinated children. this allows little ones to be in close proximity and near

their vaccinated grandparents. >> children who are partially vaccinated have immunity and will be more protected. i think using testing smartly in the settings can help protect the setting. >> reporter: santa clara leaders will be hosting a virtual town hall with families to answer covid and vaccine questions, doctors giving a progress report saying we are close to the end of the pandemic phase of the virus and will soon be entering a more endemic phase. justin andrews, kpix5. new data out of san francisco suggesting that the city has not been successful in prioritizing seniors for covid- 19 booster shots. according to the department of health as of november 1 just under 23,000 of the city's 118,000 seniors eligible to receive boosters had received them. that's about one in five of the 53,000 boosters the city has given so far, less than half have gone to those 65 and

older. starting today people visiting restaurants, movie theaters, and several other venues in los angeles will have to show proof. the requirements expand on los angeles county's mandate. they started requiring proof at bars, lounges, night clubs, breweries, wineries, distilleries. president biden's vaccine mandate for workers faces a challenge before it even takes effect in early january. a federal appeals court in louisiana temporarily halted the requirement that companies with 100 or more employees ensure they are vaccinated or test weekly. the administration says it is confident the rule will withstand challenges. remembering victims of the deadly chaos at the as row world music festival. the youngest victim was a 14- year-old boy. witnesses are sharing their experience of being pushed and squeezed in the large crowd. one witness says his marine training kicked in as he fought

to go through. it's unimaginable. >> the family says jasper's father is in china and is trying to get a temporary visa so he can attend his son's funeral. developing, east bay father in recovery after shot in his own home while holding his infant. >> this morning, the family is looking for answers. the incident happened last week. marco, an oakland father and husband, was holding his five week old baby in his living room when a dozen shots were fired. his husband jimmy worries they may have been targeted. >> it sounded like a string of fire crackers. we had our blinds up. you could see in the house that he was holding our infant and our 4-year-old was next to him. they shot anyway. i just want someone caught. >> marco was shot in the mouth, his jaw is currently wired shut. recovery could take up to two years. berkeley police are releasing video footage of a

gang related shooting from 2018. video shows eight suspects shooting guns on russell street. since 2018 investigators have identified and arrested many of the suspects they say they are connected to a number of other shootings in the neighborhood. according to berkeley's side, two gang members have been sentenced to 12 years in prison. san mateo police warning the public after an officer hit a mountain lion with his patrol car. shortly after passing the hills dale exit an officer saw what he thought was a mountain lion running across lanes. he tried to stop but hit the animal. the officer drove away but returned and the mountain lion was gone. 6:10. still ahead on kpix5 and cbsn bay area. >> a warning from fairfield police about card skimmers. what officers want you to be on the look out for. i am tracking our next storm system, atmospheric

a warning from fairfield police about credit card skimmers. a person noticed a skimmer on atm near solano town center mall. police shared photos of what appears to be a camera hidden inside a safety mirror. it was likely used to record card numbers and pin codes. always assume someone is watching when using a bank card and try to cover card information when using these machines. what if you can stay healthy for the rest of your life? many of us try to exercise and eat well but researchers are spending millions to see if

start to our day with dry conditions. it's chilly. bundle up this morning. i want to show you the beautiful views with our sunrise. a live look with our treasure island camera at this hour and here is another view, that's stunning with our sales force tower camera as we look southeast. check out the temperatures, 44 concord, 52 oakland, 43 livermore, san francisco 52, a cold 39 degrees in santa rosa. bundle up this morning if you are about to take the kids to school or about to hit the roadways and head to work. our sunrise, because we had daylight saving time that ended over the weekend, fell back, gained that extra hour of sleep, so sunrise at 6:42 and sun set at 5:03, an hour earlier. it is dry and chilly, cloudy for our afternoon and rain and wind return as we look to this evening. temperatures are cool and below average, upper 50s to low to

mid 60s across the d ea the baya and that's why we are looking at more rain coming our way. as we take you through the day, walking you through it all, your lunchtime hour, you see clouds streaming in. here we go as we look to this evening. at 5:00 p.m., rain arrives for the north bay and parts of the bay. as we look to this evening here is 8:00. we are looking at the widespread rain. here we are at 11:00 tonight. really it gets going for us with the heaviest rain by tonight with the downpours coming our way, scattered showers tomorrow morning and then drier quieter weather by tomorrow in the afternoon. we are picking up a quarter, half inch, as much as one to two inches of rain. we are looking at strong winds with the wind advisory for most of the bay area highlighted in gold from 7:00 tonight until 3:00 am tomorrow. we can see gusts up to as much as 45 miles per hour with the

strong winds as the storm pushes into our region. let's show you the seven-day forecast san francisco, oakland, san jose, dry for our morning and for most of the afternoon and then rain returns by this evening into tonight overnight and into early tomorrow and then drier weather by the rest of the week. inland east bay, north bay, coast. north bay and coast, you will see rain first as we look to later this afternoon and then all of us this evening with the rain picking up for us tonight into early tomorrow morning. let's check with gianna for a look at traffic. it's nice to have the dry roads but by this evening that's going to change. >> that evening commute might be a little tough. plan for that. plan for brake lights at the bay bridge toll plaza. metering lights were turned on and i tend to track those and see the patterns. we are seeing an earlier morning bay bridge commute with the metering lights turned on a little bit earlier than 6:00. at least that's been the

pattern. things are changing with more people heading to work. 15 minute ride from the maze as you head into san francisco. off the east shore freeway, sluggish, brake lights through thberkelea. eepingeyon this, a crash south 880 out of fremont into milpitas at the mission boulevard exit. this is involving at least two vehicles. one car spun out in lanes and hit a couple other cars. it's taking time to clear this out of the road way. two left lanes are blocked until further notice. you can see 680 runs parallel to 880 and that is moving nicely with no delays. in fact the ride out of the sunol grade from there south bound to fremont area, things are moving nicely. brake lights into altamont pass for super commuters, route getting busy west bound 580 from tracy to 680. busy on highway 4 west bound, brake lights forming out of pittsburg into bay point, so 38

minutes from antioch towards the east shore. again the busy conditions west bound 580. we'll see it as wl, north bound 101 as you work through that morgan hill area. plan for that out of the south bay. >> thanks. today, lafayette city council is expected to take a key step toward creating a new bicycle and pedestrian path. it will run down the center of pleasant hill road. today the council will vote on whether to accept a grant from the state of california. that money, nearly $240,000, would cover design and environmental work for the pathway. 6:21. coming up on kpix5 and streaming on cbsn bay area. >> how fans of sex and the city can get a taste of cary bradshaw's fabulous life in the real world.

if you are just waking up with us, here are your morning headlines. water main break has shut down several lanes in belmont. here is a live look at the scene. closed from south road to twin pines lane, drivers are warned to expect road construction during morning commute. u.s. borders are open to international travelers who are fully vaccinated after more than 18 months of travel restrictions because of covid. it's a welcome change for families separated by the pandemic and sign of hope for the battered travel industry. it's safe for partially vaccinated kids to be around family for thanksgiving. dr. scott gottlieb expects broad covid immunity in kids as they become vaccinated. good morning. it is monday november 8. i am len kiese. >> i am amanda starrantino. we will get a check of our weather and traffic.

crash on 880. how are things looking? south 880 for the ride out of fremont into milpitas, it is busy but they just cleared the crash out of lanes. hopefully things will get better there. in the meantime, stick with 680 as an at not. it is still backed up as you head out of fremont into milpitas. 680 is looking good so try that instead. along 880, new crash at lieu ellen boulevard over to the center divide and left lane. also causing residual delays off the west bound 3580 castro valley area connecting to 880 from the castro valley y. i will check the bay bridge in my next report. i am anne makovec at the live news desk. we are keeping our eye on this water main break on the peninsula. this is in belmont. the good news is that the water

with this. >> reporter: so much so that they say we are close to the end of the pandemic phase of the virus and will soon enter a more endemic phase. doctors say vaccinating young kids is making this possible. we know family and holidays kind of go hand in hand for many of us. over the weekend former commissioner of fda and now pfizer board member is saying families can safely gather for holidays with partially vaccinated children. the first dose alone gives significant protection from the virus. he is predicting by january 4th , we'll be moving into the endemic phase. >> on the back end of the delta wave you will see prevalence low across the country. look at what's happening in the south where 7,000, 8,000 a day and they paid a heavy price in terms of high levels of infection. after this delta virus moves through different parts of the country, and it is moving

through now, in another month to two, we'll be on the back end and prevalence will be low. >> we are already seeing some of the lifted restrictions across the bay area. he says he expects broad immunity to develop among the age group of 5 to 11 as more young kids are getting the shot. >> justin, thank you. today is a big day in the travel industry. >> u.s. has opened borders to international travelers who are fully vaccinated. joycelyn moran is live from san francisco international airport with the details for us. what can you tell us? >> reporter: like you said, it's a big day especially for families who have loved ones in other countries. it's been more than a year and a half for some families since they've been able to hug their loved ones. this is what international travelers have to show in order to come into u.s. they need to show proof of vaccination as well as a negative covid-19

would be paid largely by raising taxes on wealthy. congress pass the infrastructure bill with bipartisan bill late friday. lawmakers turn their full attention to the build back better agenda. the current version includes money for climate change, universal pre-k, prescription drug reform. the president has been touting how much this will help americans in the changing economy. for all of you at home who feel left behind and forgotten in an economy changing so rapidly, this bill is for you. the vast majority of the thousands of jobs will be created that don't require a college degree. they'll be jobs in every part of the country. >> democrats hope to pass latest bill by thanksgiving despite having no republican support. gas prices continuing to sky rocket according to aaa. statewide average is $4.62 per gallon and an expert says there are a lot of reasons the cost of a barrel of oil, supply

welcome back. american airlines is cutting flight attendants a break after a tough two years by offering holiday bonuses. the airline is making a decision to avoid another melt down during the holidays. attendants who work thanksgiving, christmas, new years will get a 150% premium. anyone without absence between mid november to january 2 will get a 300% premium. it's time for money watch with a look at the numbers and why people are so willing to go through debt this holiday season. diane king hall is joining us live from the new york stock exchange. good morning, diane. good morning. trading has been underway for a little more than ten minutes. investors in a buying mood, dow is better by more than 160 and nasdaq in the tech sector is up 42. investors continue to chase records. on the flip side peloton is not getting a rebound, stock down

another crash that was south 880 near the same area. hopefully that won't cause brake lights. things were looking better through there just a few minutes ago. also if you are headed north of there, there is a trouble spot along 880 south. they just cleared the left lane, everything is pushed to the shoulder. this is not far from where 580 connects to the castro y area, busy west bound 3580 getting onto 880 and you have brake lights out of san leandro if you are heading south bound. keep that in mind if you are taking the nimitz freeway. it is looking better south but there is a new crash north around the same area. bay bridge toll plaza backed up, metering lights are on. coming off east shore freeway, give yourself about 30 minutes west bound 80 from hercules to the maze and then you will need the extra 20 to get into the

i am anne makovec at the live news desk. we just got new video of a fire overnight in the north bay. check it out. this is in santa rosa breaking out in a single story home on rutledge avenue near fair grounds golf course. when firefighters got there, the fire already warring, flames coming out of the front and back. they got it under control in about 20 minutes but about a half a million dollars worth of damage was done. no injuries to report. i am justin andrews with good news, doctors say we can safely spend the holiday around our family. this sounds like a win to me because many of us were uneasy

last year during the height of the pandemic. over the weekend former commissioner of fda who is now a pfizer board member says families can gather with first round vaccinations for the children. this is allowing little ones to be around their grandparents and other loved ones. top doctors expect broad immunity to develop between the 5 to 11 age group as more young kids are getting the shot. doctors say by january 4 we will move into the endemic phase of the virus. >> reporter: i am joycelyn moran live from sfo where u.s. is opening borders after more than a year and a half of restrictions and sfo here having international travelers coming through here is expected to benefit businesses, hotels, just the travel industry in general. international travelers can enter if they can show proof of

two other vehicles. warning about card skimmers. an atm near solano mall was targeted. officers believe this was likely used to record card numbers and pin codes. taking a look at the roadways, it is busy as you work towards bay bridge toll plaza, 20 minutes from the maze into san francisco. we have word of a traffic hazard on the upper deck of the bay bridge west bound near treasure island. this looks like debris or a broken down vehicle in lanes. in the meantime this is adding to an already busy ride heading into the city. as we look at traffic elsewhere if you are on the east shore freeway plan on taking 80, west bound highway 4 to the maze, 30 minutes. it is busy for the highway 4 commute, 55 minutes from antioch, 280. 54 minutes west bound over towards 680. south bound 880, they just cleared this out of lanes but
