an eye on the storm watch today. we it'll be a dry one but the rain is set to move back in through the rest of this week. >> we have live team coverage with everything you need to know. we start with justin andrews. good morning. crews know that with this rainfall moving in to the area that means a high risk of flooding. also the possibility of property damage. this morning they want to make sure are you prepared. the marin county department of public works is encourage you to take action now by clearing dead leaves by the driveway and the rooftop gutters and the storm drains. it recommends you test the stump pumps and stock up on sandbags. crews say they just finished storm season preps on creeks, tide fates and pump stations. road work was down too.

they say the maintenance division just wrapped up their practice of inspecting and cleaning roadside storm drain, removing debris build up to reduce cloggg lookinties, a lot of the inuctu the future as well. a lot of our work just is focused on what we need to do to maintain those facilities so we are ready when the rain comes. >> okay. flooding is not the only issue. we saw this the other day when the light rainfalls sometimes power lines can fall and spark fires. that little storm that passed through, caused 28,000 people to be without power. we want to make sure that you are prepared and aware of everything that could come with this potential rainfall. we are live in san rafael. i'm justin andrews. >> thank you. a lot of good information. now there is going to be a lot of issue was the roadways and

then obviously we need to be prepared. >> our next storm system arrives tonight. get ready for that. keep the umbrellas handy and you will likely need it all week long. let's get to what you can expect. if you are about to head out here is what you need to know. it'll be dry for most the day. parently cloudy to mostly cloudy and then the cold front. that will bring the return of the rain for tonight, unsettled weather with off and on rain as we look to the next several days. let's get right to future cast. hour by hour, you can see the clouds streaming in as we head through the afternoon. then watch as we head through tonight. this is at 8:00 p.m. the north bay you will see that rain first. we will take you hour by hour, with when you can expect to see that widespread rain where you live coming up in just a few minutes. let's check in with gianna. things will be changing quickly for us and you have more on preparations, what people can do. >> when you get a couple of days. that gives you time for the

roadways to dry out. more oil has come to the surface when you get more rain it. will be slick out there on the roadways tomorrow. give yourself extra time. definitely plan ahead for your morning commute if you are going for work or school. the roadways are okay but that wet weather changes everything. couple things to keep in mind. you want to watch your speeds and wet weather. slow down. keep a lot of space between and you the car in front of you. also avoid standing water if you can. if that's a possibility. especially when you see puddling along the right side of the roadway. headlights on. that's very important. that makes you more visible and during bad weather. keep all that have in mind. when we get that rainy weather. we have a hot spot along 680. we have our eye on the fda today. set to possibly approve booster shots of the moderna and johnson and johnson vaccines. we are also hearing that they

are likely to recommend a mix and match approach or at least allow it. if your first two shots were pfizer you would be allowed to get a booster. something health officials have been asking for giving them more flexibility. more freedom ending in more shots and more arms. the agency could announce its decision on that as soon as tomorrow when it's expected to authorize the moderna and johnson and johnson boosters. there is an advisory committee of the cdc and prevention. that is going to take up the issue of boosters on thursday and could issue it's own recommendation. that means by the end of the week millions of americans could be eligible for boosters. we will stay on top of it. >> thank you. new details on a subvariant of coronavirus that may be gaining traction in the uk. it's called ay4.2.

it acts for aboutl 8% of cases in the uk affecting nearly 15,000 people. just seven cases reported so far in the united states. former fda commissioner tweeted its been in the uk since july but has been slowly increasing. there's no indication that it's more transmissible but we should work to more quickly show these and other new variants. a live look from san francisco. a new scholarship program is now available. the goal is to encourage vaccinations for youth 12 to 17 years old. city officials say that eligible students who have been vaccinated can enter the drawing for a four year scholarship at sf state. there will be ten lucky winners. according to the california department of education statewide enrollment in k through 12, fell by 160,000 students in 2020 to 2021. locally west contra costa said it anticipates a lot of 130

million dollars in the district's budget. this could result in staff layoffs. and bus services are being suspended for around 1400 students due to coronavirus exposures. according to the school district it's him pocketing 11 drivers. that's more than half. it's transportation staff. a spokesperson from the school district assures there's no inner transmission reported. any student who are late because of the suspension will be excused. redistricting up for discussion tonight in contra costa. supervisors will hold a public hearing on how best to redraw the lines. county staff have dumb up with five possible situations based on the 2020census. the population has increased by about 11% since 2010. the biggest increases are in antioch and other eastern areas of the county. to san francisco, where people in the marina are so fed up with all the crime. this reactually hiring their own security services.

elections certified petitions triggering this recall. organizers launched the effort amid anger and frustration over coronavirus school closures and then there was a bu in, gled effort to rename schools and changes to admissions. the recall vote is set for a special election in mid- february. the president of the union representing san francisco teachers issued this statement, as educators who love our communities and care for our students we are urging vote fores reject this recall. the recall will waste precious resources when decision makers need to be laser focused on meeting the needs of or students. more fall out from the worsening drought. scientists say that water isn't flowing out of lake tahoe like used to. the environmental research center said the lake's waterline in to the river is drying up. dry -- we could be three feet below the current level this time next year. always had the periods when the

complex into housing for the homeless. looking live now at the city, it was built six years ago to hold students two local colleges. the schools have built newhouseing of their own. the board will vote on whether to use about $86 million in state funding to get the complex. it has 160 units including dozen of three bedroom suites where family dear sir live. a statue, former san jose mayor is closer to being taken down. this after the city's commission endorsed its removal. the commission has been taking public comment on the removal for months now. if it's taken down it'll be put into storage united nations a history museum or school wants to display it for educational purposes. opponents of the statue say it's a symbol of imperialism. the city council will make the final decision on november 9th. happening today the fraud trial of elizabeth holmes is set to resume in federal court
