bay in san jose, 92 concord, 90 livermore for inland east bay. north bay, highs in low 80s and around the bay, mid to upper 60s to low 70s. you see futurecast taking you hour by hour with the skies clearing. it should be a beautiful day. let's check with gianna for a look at traffic. one of our busy spots is the ride into the altamont pass, where we are seeing brake lights already. super commuters give yourself a few extra minutes. bay bridge toll plaza, still quiet. we are seeing extra volume but no major delays or issues. no metering lights. west bound 80 is clear, no delays off east shore freeway. highway 4 is all clear as well. if you are headed out of south bay out of san jose, north bound 101 from hellyer to sfo,
an easy 35 minute commute. no troubles to report through the area. a live look at 880, oakland to the colosseum, traffic is pretty light. a large fire on bradford island in contra costa. >> evacuations have been ordered. here is a live look. >> flames are still burning scorching about 212 acres so far. two structures have been lost and some people are reporting the fire is visible in parts of the east bay. >> contra costa fire dispatch tells us the few people on the island are opting for staying instead of evacuating, no word on what may have sparked the flames. crews busy in the south bay putting out this structure fire. this overnight video captured flames coming out of the roof and windows of the white building there. we have learned that the property was vacant and cause remains under investigation. kids in one east bay school district are starting to return
to classrooms today. >> it's already happening. students will be walking halls of bay tech charter school in a few hours. justin andrews is live at the school right now. good morning. things will be very different this year. >> reporter: yes, good morning. every student and every staff member inside the building will be required to wear a mask. yes, that follows state's public health requirements. even with this delta variant, we are seeing numbers spike. in person learning hasn't changed. district leaders say they're watching closely. it's opening day for the kids at bay tech. they've been away from school buildings about 16 months. there might be a learning curve adjusting to being back inside the classroom. the district plans on using what they call a restore tim return. that's using the first few weeks of school helping the more than 35,000 students in the district re-adjust and
reconnect with one another before instantly jumping into academics. all the schools in the school district are set for opening for in person learning next month august 9. district learning is still an option. if that works better, you can sign up for that. be sure you let the district know. justin andrews, kpix5. >> thank you. to the coronavirus, bay area may be on the verge of issuing another indoor mask mandate in light of the highly contagious delta variant. >> counties recommend but do not require people to mask up indoors but that can change as early as today. cdc found in a study friday that the delta variant may spread as easily among vaccinated as unvaccinated. bay area saw a 32% jump in new cases from the week before. >> many people not vaccinated, 49% of the united states not vaccinated, now is the time.
>> right now 90% of san mateo residents are vaccinated. city leaders and medical experts don't want to take chances. >> i don't think i ever had the overwhelming sense of relief. i am a nurse. i sort of expected this to become endemic. we have to follow the science and do what's recommended. >> cases are up. san mateo is seeing a slight up tick in hospital cases. new data points to millennials driving a surge in cases that rise in san francisco is out pacing statewide infection rate. in may, 25 to 39-year-olds accounted for just over 35% of the new monthly cases. in july, the number went up to fully half. delta variant went on a tear quickly after the state opened in june. it turns out people 25 to 34 have lowest vaccination rates of any eligible group in san francisco. just over 72% had at least one
shot. two thirds are fully vaccinated. some transit news as we look live at bay area bridges. we can see a bit of relief bart trains t in nce idership the start of the pandemic. starting today service will be back to about 90% of normal. a few folks say it is happening just in time. >> i have company coming and i wanted to take them to see hamilton. i was worried about how we would get home. >> wait times will be cut in half on weekdays with trains every 15 minutes instead of every 30. hours will be extended to midnight from monday through saturday. nhl is investigating forward kane of the sharks. >> that's after his wife alleged on instagram that he bet on his games. an analyst say the case may
threaten his career. >> this is a ten. short of murder this is about the worse thing a pro athlete can do, betting against your own team. if allegations are true. >> in a statement kane said even against advice of my legal team i feel strongly that the public and fans hear this from me. i have never gambled or bet on a sharks game, never gambled on hockey, never bet on any games and have never thrown a hockey game. he makes 7 million a year with the sharks. he could be suspended by nhl during the investigation. for the first time, oakland police are releasing a clue in a cold case murder. five years ago, an 18-year-old was shot. police are sharing a picture of a car they believe was involved. a reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest. on august 1, 2016, police say
the teen was shot while in the front passenger seat of a car. a video posted by police. his mother says she doesn't want her son to just be another oakland homicide. a principal sustained a serious head injury while camping. he spent over a week in intensive care before he died on thursday. a gofundme to help his family has raised more than $83,000. he leaves behind a wife and five children. taking a live look at san francisco where today the city is launching a new initiative called a street overdose response team. it's geared toward identifying and following up with people who have survived previous drug over dose, those homeless are considered most at risk. mayor london breed says we know over dose deaths are preventable and every person who dies is someone's son, daughter, neighbor.

fairfield with that delta breeze. in san francisco, 66 in the afternoon and here we go in oakland, 70 this afternoon with clearing and sunshine and south bay, san jose, upper 70s with mostly sunny skies. a night of wild side shows left a spectator with serious injuries in san jose. it happened in front of san jose city hall. police actually responded to several side shows across the students i. at city. by the end of the night more than a dozen drivers and spectators were cited. we are hearing from residents where four people lost their lives after a helicopter came crashing down it unfolded yesterday afternoon. a first responder located the victims and officials pronounced them dead. a ranch owner says he was
working on his tomato field across the road. >> didn't hear anything, didn't see anything. >> cal fire reporting a helicopter crash. >> four fatal victims have yet to be identified but ntsb and faa are investigating the cause of the crash. new, walnut creek's considering ramping up police presence after a series of grab and run thefts. the added policing would be budgeted over the next year and come through voluntary over time from officers. nordstrom would reimburse to the city. a test of endurance to honor first responders who died on 9/11. a 40 day bike ride from the bay area to the east coast. this group of retired and
active firefighter with his military veterans kicked off their journey yesterday. they're slated to trek across country for six weeks to reach brooklyn sometimes cycling more than 120 miles a day. >> i want to let them know we appreciate them, their service to our country as well as representing the military. >> over the last 20 years it seems we've had the divide again. hopefully this is going to bring the nation together again. >> this is the second time the bay to brooklyn group will make the trip. ten years ago it was two riders. this year, more than 15. looking live at san francisco, today riders will again be able to ride one of these. the little cable cars. they might be climbing up but won't be at full service. instead operators will continue testing lines. in the meantime anyone can hop on for a free ride throughout august. those rides run from 7:30 in the morning to about 10:00 at

look at traffic. it's getting busy especially into the altamont pass as we look at main travel times. west bound 580 from 205 tracy towards dublin interchange, give yourself 36 minutes. west bound 80 is clear, highway 4. 101 looking good out of the south bay. san jose along the peninsula, we are not seeing brake lights or issues. dublin interchange, you see head lights headed west bound toward the 580, 680 connector. we are seeing extra volume. 35 minutes if you are headed towards dublin interchange out of tracy. bay bridge toll plaza, metering lights are off. your travel time is about seven minutes from the maze into san francisco. definitely starting to see more cars on the roadways. keep that in mind. when the 6:00 hour hits we see more traffic. san mateo bridge is quiet, no
delays. 12 minutes west bound across the span towards the peninsula. benicia bridge, be careful if in a high profile vehicle. heads up, starting today vta light rail will have bus bridges in place, no fares for now. it will run weekdays from 5:30 in the morning until 8:30 at night and weekends from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. keep that in mind. check the schedule before you head out. golden gate bridge, very nice for the roadways through there if you are headed into the city. chp helicopter video shows moments a driver went the wrong way down a freeway to escape from vallejo police. you see sparks flying from one of the wheels of the suspect's car. at one point the suspect and passenger tried to carjack two people in the middle of highway 680. suspects opened passenger doors trying to steal cars but the

the red, that's for super commuters. a lot of folks making that trek out of tracy. this is to the right shoulder, not blocking lanes. when anything happens it tends to slow things down a bit. almost 40 minutes from 205 towards 680. towards dublin interchange traffic moves better. tail lights headed east bound, head lights headed west bound. look at the bay bridge, already busy. we are starting to see brake lights near the toll plaza. metering lights are on and travel time, about ten minutes from the maze into san francisco. getting a little bit busy into the city. still holding steady with an easy ride 880 and 101. west bound 80 highway 4 to the
