good morning. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. this morning, 30 million people in the west are under excessive heat warnings and advisories. the scorching temperatures are helping wildfires explode in size. the bootleg fire which has burned more than 140,000 acres is threatening two small towns in southern oregon. officials say they may start arresting people who refuse evacuation orders. meantime, california's largest fire of the year spawned this fire-nado north of lake tahoe as flames doubled in size over the weekend. now burning more than 86,000 acres. laura podesta is tracking the latest. how bad is the wildfire damage so far? >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. well, the exact number of structures burned is not known. but witnesses say that on

saturday in doyle, california, they saw six houses go up in flames. yesterday the fire was still smoldering with several ranch properties in danger nearby. firefighters are battling the beckworth complex fire in northern california. the state's largest wildfire this year. >> back up! back up! >> reporter: a combination of two blazes burning near lake tahoe that has destroyed houses, structures, and cars. >> flames are big, and they're hot. >> reporter: phil burgarela realized he wasn't going to be able to save his home. >> i thought i was clear, but the corners of the trailer started by debris i guess, and it was too much. i didn't have no water, nothing. i as pouring beer on it. >> reporter: he injured his arm and lost four dogs while escaping. >> i couldn't get them out. they couldn't see. the smoke was there. i -- i think they're gone. >> reporter: officials say more than 1,200 personnel are fighting

the stadium hosting tomorrow's major league baseball all-star game. three men and one woman were arrested friday night. two vehicles were also impounded. police were alerted after a hotel worker reportedly found more than a dozen weapons and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition in a room. guests at the hotel were stunned. >> so our balcony faces directly toward coors field. there's no building in between. the balcony you see straight across. thank you to whoever reported what they saw. they could have circumvented a tragedy. >> there was no threat to the all-star game, but police don't rule out a mass attack was planned. a possibly motive has been released. vaccine maker pfizer is set to meet with top health officials to discuss a covid booster shot. last week pfizer announced it plans to seek emergency approval for a third dose of the shot. it comes as dr. anthony fauci

addresses the severity of the delta variant which is now the most common strain in the u.s. he encouraged unvaccinated americans to reconsider their decision when he appeared on "face the nation" yesterday. >> so it's pretty clear from the data, john, that if you are vaccinated, your risk is extraordinarily low. if you are unvaccinated, you have a high risk of this very nasty variant, the delta variant. >> right now just over 159 million people are fully vaccinated. that's 48% of the u.s. population. texas republicans advanced restrictive voting bills in a special session yesterday. lawmakers passed controversial legislation to overhaul the state's voting system. the measures include prohibiting 24-hour polling places, banning drop boxes, and stopping drive-through voting. the state and -- rather, the state senate and house are expected to vote on the bills

this week. the action comes after democrats killed a restrictive voting bill in a historic walkout from the house floor in may. space tourism is one step closer to reality.sori his virgin galactic rocket ship traveled to the edge of space yesterday. he called it the dawn of a new space age and aimed at sending tourists there, as well. mark strassmann reports from new mexico. welcome to space unity 22. >> reporter: this is the moment sir richard branson took one giant leap into the space tourism business. during this test flight, virgin galactic rocketed its space plane unity into the final frontier, and branson became the first person to blast off in his own spaceship. he beats amazon's jeff bezos and blue origin into space by nine days. >> the experience of a lifetime. >> reporter: virgin galactic's mother ship carried unity to about 45,000 feet. >> release, release, release. >> reporter: then the space

[ cheers ] >> mr. trump also slammed the biden administration over the border crisis and railed against, quote, left-wing cancel culture. "the new york times" reports pope francis led a sunday prayer service a week after undergoing colon surgery. this was the pope's first public appearance since the scheduled operation on july 4th. francis, who greeted the faithful from a hospital balcony, sounded weak as he spoke to a crowd that gathered at noon.

there's an investigation into what went wrong. on the cbs "money watch," "black widow" breaks a box offiecord,nd you can win a trip to space on richard branson's space liner. diane king hall is at the new york stock exchange with those stories and more. good morning, diane. >> reporter: good morning. investors are in for a busy week with the start of second-quarter earnings season kicking off along with a slew of new economic data. meantime, all three indices hit fresh record highs on friday. the major indices. the dow rallied 448 points. the nasdaq gained 142, and the s&p 500 added 48. the new child tax credit will start hitting bank accounts this week. eligible parents will receive monthly payments for each child starting thursday. it's part of the american rescue plan signed by president biden. families can get up to $3,600 per child or $300 a month. the advanced payments are set to expire at the end of the year. democrats are pushing to make the tax credit permanent.

as we reported earlier, sir richard branson traveled to space on his virgin galactic plane, and now you and a guest could win a seat on the next voyage. they're raffling two tickets for one of the first commercial flights for the "ss unity." people can enter for $5, you can get up to 2,000 entries for $100. all funds will support space for humanity designed to help send everyday citizens into space. and back on earth, moviegoers traveled to the box office to see "black widow." >> we have to go back to where it all started. >> where did you think i was all this time? >> we have unfinished business. >> disney says the superhero film generated roughly $80 million this weekend in north america. that's a record for the pandemic. the release of "black widow" starring scarlett johansson was delayed for more than a year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

culpable. >> reporter: the incident happened wednesday morning when an armed hit squad entered the home of haitian president jovenel moise, killing him and seriously injuring his wife. the assailants fled into the capital, port-au-prince. authorities say a squad of 26 colombian nationals and two haitian americans were responsible. the americans say they were only working as translators. an audio recording alleged to be of first lady martine moise who is recovering in the hospital posted to her personal twitter. in it she says she is in beautiful condition but heartbroken and urges haitians not to let the assassination become a cause for their country's decline. the white house announced it will be sending aid to haiti in the form of covid-19 vaccines. that's because haiti is one of the only countries in the world not to have administered a single dose. christina ruffini, cbs news, the white house. coming up first on "cbs this
