i am len kiese. good morning. first things first, your friday marylee joins us with our slightly cooler start. good morning to you. we are looking at temperatures that are a bit cooler thanks to that ocean breeze kicking in. clouds in san francisco, that really indicates those changes as we start our day, down to the 30s, 40s, 50s this morning and also areas of fog as well with the on shore flow. this afternoon, you will notice the cool down. mid to upper 50s along the coast. around the bay, upper 50s to low to mid 70 a mild day inland but a bit cooler compared to yesterday. here we go on futurecast as we head through our friday. we'll talk about the weekend forecast. let's check with gianna. is it friday light out there?

i wish i could say it was for those out of gilroy into morgan hill possibly san jose. this is due to two separate accidents. an overturned vehicle north bound 101. past that, there is another trouble spot. so we've got two accidents causing all these delays out of san martin into morgan hill. plan for that as you head out. we are seeing brake lights into the altamont pass west bound 205 to 580 is slow and extend to at least north flynn with your travel times. >> thank you. new, a car crashes into a house in san jose over night causing a massive amount of damage. neighbors rushed in to help. they say the air bag was not deployed and were surprised to find someone was able to walk away from the crash. homeowners say they heard a huge bang while thwesleepi. s the e and weats happening an

in our front room. >> also in san jose overnight, a man is in the hospital after a shooting that happened just before midnight. police say the man is in critical condition. there are no details on a suspect or motive. this morning, u.s. drought monitor revealing nearly the entire bay area facing extreme drought. that includes peninsula, east bay, and most of the south bay. kpix5's kiet do is live at lexington reservoir in los gatos. on a good year that thing would be full. a bit of a sad scene there today. >> reporter: you know, this is kind of typical for this time of year to have a low water level at the reservoir but this is abnormally low. let me step out of the way and give you a gorgeous shot of the morning twilight at lexington reservoir, second dry winter in a row caught the attention of water managers around the bay

area. we are here now in the santa clara valley water district. earlier this month the board voted to continue a 20% voluntary reduction in water use and they calculate that off the 2013 use. other agencies are going a bit further. tomorrow east bay mud will ask all customers to voluntarily cut back usage by 10%. the agency does not have enough water to make it through the year so they must public water from outside the district. voluntary water conservation is the first step. >> what might happen is mandatory conservation for example instnt or we may institute drought sur charges. >> try not to think about it. i am in denial. i have lived through it too many times. >> hopefully not. ur charges but i think we will be rationing especially in our zone. >> it's not the first time and it will probably not be the last time. >> reporter: here is a round up

life threatening but the person was taken to the hospital. no word on suspects. live to san francisco now where police are searching for a suspect involved in a deadly triple shooting last night. it happened near market and mason streets. one man died at the scene and two others were taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. officials urge anyone who witnessed the shooting to contact sfpd. today the 28-year-old suspected of murdering a woman and covering it with a fire will be arraigned in court. 32-year-old priscilla castro disappeared last august. she was last known to be visiting vacaville for a date with victor serrentino, a man she met on a dating app. a live look now at san francisco and marin counties, both expected to slide into the most lenient tier of reopening

next tuesday. yellow tier allows for expanded capacity of indoor and out door activities. san francisco's covid command center expects the changes will take effect friday may 7 if the yellow tier move is announced. an update, school district recommending an elementary school be closed triggering accusations of racial bias. an advisory panel voted 7-4 after a tense five hour meeting this week. parents rallied tuesday ahead of the vote to stop the closure. the school has the highest percentage of asian american students in marin. a huge night for bay area football fans after weeks of suspense. the wait is finally over. the 49ers got their new quarterback. >> they did with the third overall pick niners took north dakota state's trey lance. good morning everybody. as nfl draft drew closer and closer, 49ers fans were hoping

the team would take trey lance instead of alabama's matt jones. last night they got their wish and then some. san francisco took lance out of north dakota state with the third overall pick. since the 49ers traded from 12 to 3 last month, the speculation was they would take jones who new england ended up taking at 15. but they kept everybody in the dark including lance. >> it was pretty emotional for me right away. kind of a surreal feeling and obviously not knowing what the situation would be going in. >> you never know with the league. if the nfl is assuming you are doing one thing and you are not, we're not going to work hard to correct that. so let that be. >> quarterback's trevor lawrence and zack wilson were top two picks followed by lance, tight end kyle pits and

prompting evacuations. cal fire says vegetation is significantly drier and fire season is here a month earlier than usual. the fire burning north has grown to 150 acres with 0% containment. crews say they are making good progress. evacuation orders have been downgraded to warnings. >> hate to hear about that in

april. it is still april. starting this weekend, ll b on the gill man interchange project and gianna, you have been tracking this project for sometime now as they've been preparing for it. what a relief for people who drive around there. it really will be. for people who live and commute around that area it is such a headache. they know all too well how bad traffic can get. the good news is that is about to change. phase one of construction will start with a new pedestrian bridge that will connect to the bay trail. the second phase will begin in november and will include two round abouts. i spoke with the executive director of alameda county transportation commission about how this will pave the way for more efficient and safer commute. issues that 35%,0% e saty state averages in collisions

recovering. north of there, another trouble spot at hellyer involving an this is blocking the d thatcaa back up. we are seeing brake lights for the ride into the altamont pass. west bound it looks like they're building out of tracy around mount house and it extends to north flynn. super commuters heads up, things are bogging down a bit for the ride towards the dublin interchange. if you are ready to head out the door give yourself 37 minutes to travel west bound 580 from 205 towards 680. if you are headed to 80, east shore freeway, that's friday light. so far, things have been pretty quiet along highway 4 with only a 27 minute commute from antioch to the east shore freeway. a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza, we had an earlier stall vehicle around the pay gates but that is long gone and traffic is moving smooth out of the east bay as you head into the city. most bay area bridges are quiet, a live look at the

saturday, we will bump up temps for your sunday. breezy through the weekend and looking at the longer range weather models we will stay dry for the next several days. stronger on shore breeze kicks in and that's why temperatures are a bit cooler. as we look to futurecast through our afternoon we can see the cloud cover stick around along the coast and around the bay. as we look to tomorrow morning with the stronger marine influence, we can see spotty drizzle for tomorrow first thing and then looking at temperatures a bit cooler for your saturday. we have been talking a lot about our drought, latest update showing in red, extreme drought for most of the bay area to severe drought. this is a big concern as we look to the summer and wildfire season. it's a lot earlier than we typically see with the drought and extreme drought for our region. as we look to rainfall verses average, 37% to 40% of average. it was a very dry winter and

more sunshine inland for concord and livermore, other locations starting the day with clouds. through the afternoon, you will notice that cool down by the water along the coast, around the bay, mid to upper 50s along the coast, upper 50s to low to mid 60s around the bay, 70s for locations inland. it's been very dry. i want to give you the latest on our drought update. most of the bay area is in the red. that is extreme drought. pretty alarming so early for us. some bay area residents preparing to cut back on water usage this weekend due to extreme drought. kiet do has more from los gatos. good morning, kiet. >> reporter: good morning mary. it's a gorgeous morning at lexington reservoir where we are live in los gatos. it is the end of april and let's look at the past month and what water agencies are doing in response to the looming drought. we are in the santa clara valley water district. earlier this month the board

subscriptions. the european investigation found that that fee is passed onto consumers. now to a developing story, israel in mourning following a stampede at a religious festival. at least 44 people are dead. more than 100 are injured. thousands were gathered on the country to sing, pray, and dance for a religious holiday. crowds tried to exit through a narrow walkway and people started to fall on top of one another. one attendee said there were thousands of people with no place to move as people began to fall. >> we were going to go inside for the dancing and stuff. all of a sudden we saw paramedics running by mid cpr on kids and then one after the other started coming. >> israel often cited as leading the world in covid vaccinations and this event was the first mass religious gathering allowed since the country lifted nearly all the

befuddled me a little bit with trading underway a little less than 15 minutes. stocks are under pressure in the early action. the only thing is maybe some profit taking. you see stocks get to the lofty heights and investors start taking chips off the table booking gains. dow is down 138 points. tech sector, you are seeing losses there as well, nasdaq down 66. s&p 500 is down 20 points. i mention that because s&p 500 is mentioned broadest of u.s. stocks and hit all time high yesterday. some positive news, u.s. economy fired up to start the year. gdp grew 6.4% during the first three months of 2021. economic growth spread across a wide variety of sectors. but it was led by consumer spending, longns backbone of u.s. economy, shot up 10% during the period, fresh spending data today as well showing that spending shot up

blocking center divide and the left line. if you want to take 85, that might be your best bet. you can head to 87 and back to 101. if you can get on hellyer past that, you will probably be okay skipping the delays since the crash is right before hellyer. we are seeing slow and go conditions because of that. keep that in mind if you are commuting out of the south bay. it hasn't been friday light unfortunately for san martin out of morgan hill. a busy ride for super commuters out of gilroy. if you are a super commuter into the altamont, it's business as usual. things are a little slow around north flynn but the good news is once you are past that, it gets better. traffic is wide open through the dublin interchange. 36 minutes is your travel time west bound 580 from 205 toward 680.

stronger marine influence, we can see a little bit drizzle first thing especially along the coast and those cooler temperatures expected on saturday. because it has been so dry, latest drought update for you showing most of the bay area in red, extreme drought for most of the region in orange. that is a severe drought. as we look to our rainfall verses average, 37 to 40% of average. it was such a dry winter and spring for us. our sierra snowpack is not looking good, 26% of average. 27% for north sierra, 34% for central sierra. south sierra, 14%. let's check our daytime highs in the bay area. at home 75 in santa clara, 76 san jose. it's still a mild day for south bay. east bay, warming to 78 for concord pleasant hill, low 80s antioch. around the bay it is much cooler. 58 san francisco, 57 daly city,

gorgeous sunrise over lexington reservoir in los gatos, taking this moment now to look back on the month of april and everything being done to respond to the drought. in the santa clara valley water district earlier this month board voted to continue to call for voluntary 20% reduction in water use compared to 2013. other agencies going further than that, starting tomorrow east bay mud will begin asking customers to voluntarily cut back usage by 10%. east bay mud does not have enough war to make it through the year and must purchase from outside the district. most agencies have reserve to last a year or two at most. uc davis center for watershed science says we do not need to panic but we do need to worry. sonoma is proclaiming drought emergency. san francisco public utilities commission is asking for a 10% voluntary reduction for 1600 irrigation and tomorrow voluntary 10% reduction goes
