lights anyway west bound 580 from the 205, 580 connector beyond north flynn. brake lights begin on 205. a busy monday morning for the ride west bound 580. we are tracking slow speeds with a 45 minute travel time from 205 towards 680. we are seeing things crowded on the east shore freeway commute, west brown highway 4 and north bound 101, a new crash at mckee. today, vice president kamala harris returning to her roots. she'll be in her hometown of oakland this afternoon for the first time as vice president. that is of course where she launched her campaign for president in 2019. harris is expected to tour a facility and talk about water infrastructure. she's scheduled to hold a listening session with small businesses. today senator alex padea, her replacement, set to visit

fema site. she's been pleading with the federal government to keep running the mass vaccination site for several more weeks. fema is slated to pull out april 11 after declaring that the eight week mission to vaccinate people at the colosseum was accomplished. the state has administered nearly 20 million doses of the vaccine and it's a race between the variants and vaccinations. cdc says on average, 3 million people a day are getting shots. agency reported more than 3.4 million doses administered on easter sunday alone. cases are rising in 27 states and washington, dc. however a ucsf infectious disease expert says she does not think a fourth covid wave will hit california. >> we have vaccinations in place. we have low numbers, low hospitalizations throughout the state. we are in a really good point. >> sf chronical reporting another variant is surfacing in

elementary and middle schools in cupertino are reopening today. taking a live look at sedgwick elementary school which will be buzzing in about an hour or so. this is one of the schools where students are about to return. district says about half of the 15,000 students have chosen to attend classes in person for part of each week. the other half will stay with distance learning for the time being. starting today, students can come to campus two days a week and that will expand to four days in late april and early may. after voting to rename dozens of schools, san francisco school board is expected to reverse that decision this week to avoid litigation. about two months ago, you might remember the board voted to rename 44 schools with names associated with slavery, oppression, colonization. that includes washington, mission, and balboa high schools. a lawsuit claimed the decision violated the brown act and

critics said rebranding would be too expensive anyway. the board is expected to reverse course at tomorrow's meeting. to address emotional toll of pandemic on students, san francisco is expanding mobile response team that provides free mental health and wellness services. it's helped almost 200 families and the expansion will allow the team to serve about 80 more families. critics of bow dean will submit the latest finance figures. they point to sharp increases in property crimes like burglaries in 2020. that's the first year boudin took over. but supporters highlight how most violent crimes have dropped since this time last year. in 2020 violent crimes dropped by double digits but same police data shows property crimes like burglaries jumped more than 50%. >> proponents of the recall are

cherry picking specific things, saying this increase is because of d.a. boudin. but we have to look at the entire picture that overall crime is down. >> someone that has no experience in prosecuting criminals has gotten elected and now we have go through a process to remove. >> recall organizers need more than 50,000 verified signatures for recall to be on the ballot by early august. family of a missing daly city man wants you to take a good look at these pictures. edward questa walked out of his care facility thursday. his family says that the senior has the mental capacity of a 13- year-old. he uses a walker, is deaf and mute and would have trouble communicating if lost. we are told he lived in bris bain for years and was often seen at the library and the park there. breaking news as you look live at lax.

new video from the international space station. members of nasa's spacex crew are marking another first for commercial space light. four astronauts just completed relocating crew dragon spacecraft. they're preparing for arrival of the next mission and upcoming cargo later this month. the spacex mission lifted off back in november. stanford women's basketball, congratulations, new title ncaa champions. >> it was a historic night and all came down to the wire. dennis o'donnell has the highlights. good morning everybody. the drought is over for stanford cardinal women, champions for first time since 1992. as ringo star once sang you

we are keeping our eye on developing news in southern california. a brush fire is burning. this is ventura county and cal fire is calling it westwood fire. it has burned about 25 acres and it has been growing, is 0% contained. luckily no evacuations are ordered so far. it's a pretty remote area but the cause remains under investigation. vehicle entry fees in effect once again at more than a dozen parks in santa clara county. parks and rec department charging $6 for the first time sincit e ved the fees in march last year. this covers 16 parks including lexington reservoirs. this helps cover maintenance of the parks. heads up for contra costa bart riders. part of the garage will close starting this morning as crews begin construction. they'll be working on upgrading the station's lighting and retrofitting the building.

this project is expected to take four months. it is now 6:16. for all things transit and traffic, here is gianna. good morning. good morning. i will say transit is on time. that's good news. we have a few brake lights on freeways especially south bay north bound 101 at mckee, a couple cars tangled, no lanes blocked, activity is to the shoulder. it is a slow ride as you work north bound 101 around the 280, 680 connector. once you pass that things look better through south bay and along the peninsula. south of there, it is a slow ride through san martin. north bound 101 into morgan hill, this is typical slow and go conditions we are starting to see for super commuters out of the south bay, out of gilroy. super commuters into altamont pass have their own brake lights to deal with. delays out of tracy as you work

onto 580. we are seeing delays beyond north flynn so it is slow through the livermore valley. 47 minutes from 205 towards 680. it is windy through altamont. be extra careful if in a high profile vehicle. a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. things are getting busy as you approach. no metering lights just yet but we are starting to see brake lights across upper deck of the bay bridge near the incline as well. around treasure island, a stalled vehicle was just cleared out of lanes. hopefully things will improve but seeing more cars on the road way for the commute into san francisco. it is 6:17. time to check your forecast, a little cloudy but the sun will be peeking its head soon. >> that's right. we are looking at a pleasant day, morning clouds, afternoon sunshine, very typical for this time of year. a live look with our sales force tower camera as we look north at the golden gate.

those clouds in the sky. we are looking at temperatures mainly in the low 50s for concord, oak land, livermore, san francisco, san jose, cool 42 in santa rosa. breezy westerly winds and on shore flow kicking in, 10-mile per hour winds out of the west at sfo, 14 in oakland, 20-mile per hour winds for fairfield. it's a cloudy start also with some areas of fog as we start our day and as we head through the afternoon with the clearing, we will see daytime highs around where we should be for this time of year if not just a little bit below average. on shore flow, marine influence kicking in, that's why we are starting our day with the clouds. we will catch clearing with afternoon sunshine and again near normal daytime highs. as we take you hour by hour on futurecast, you see that clearing through our afternoon, starting tomorrow with clouds and then afternoon sunshine. temperatures tomorrow are just a bit warmer compared to today. our sunrise is at 6:48 and sun

this afternoon. you see as we take you hour by hour on futurecast with skies clearing and that sunshine. we have a crash in san jose in the south bay. let's go to gianna with the latest on that. it is causing brake lights north bound 101 at mckee. that's where the crash is. i got an update from chp. they're moving out of the number two lanes from one of the right lanes to the right shoulder. hopefully things will get better. certainly slow from at least before the 280, 680 connector north to mckee where the crash is. if you want to use 87, guadelupe parkway, no delays there. it's a busy ride for super commuters out of tracy into altamont pass, brake lights into the altamont pass, slow through the livermore valley area. the bay bridge is starting to get a little bit busy at the

toll plaza. >> thank you. the second week of the derek chauvin murder trial begins within the next few minutes in minneapolis. the former officer is accused of killing george floyd in may last year. 19 people testified last week. that included several who witnessed floyd's death and broke down in tears on the stand as they described attempts to intervene. friday a veteran officer said kneeling on a suspect's neck as chauvin did for nine minutes is "just uncalled for." the jury will be returning 45 minutes from now. today will include the city police chief who has criticized chauvin's actions in the past. he has pleaded not guilty to murder and manslaughter. going live to california's state capitol where the senate is set to hold controversial hearings today. this is on a bill that would downgrade robberies to a misdemeanor instead of a felony. sb82 has generated opposition

from law enforcement officials and some members of the asian community also expressing concern following a series of attacks on asian americans across the nation. we have learned a side show in san francisco's mission district ended in a shooting. citizen app video showing a crowd cheering, flashing lasers while a pick up and several cars are doing doughnuts. around 2:00 a.m. yesterday one vehicle drove up to another and somebody inside opened fire. a 19-year-old man from oakland was sent to the hospital with injuries. he is expected to be okay. the shooter though is still at large. a $2,500 reward offered for information leading to gunman in a deadly house party shooting in santa rosa over the weekend. police were called to the house just before 5:00 yesterday morning and found a man dead. he had been shot at least once. so far police have not said

what may have led to the shooting. 6:33. opening bill ringing moments ago on wall street, a live look at the numbers as we begin to new week. dow is up quite a bit in the green there about 306 points. new proposal aimed at helping more small businesses in santa clara will be unveiled. the push promises relief to 1,000 small businesses by waving registration fees for restaurants, personal care services, gym. santa clara board of supervisors will vote on the proposal tomorrow. on the road to recovery, elementary and middle schools in cupertino are reopening for in person learning. let's take a live look this morning at sedgwick elementary school in cupertino. this place is going to be buzzing with activity in about an hour because students are about to return to class. we spoke with the principal and

screen. we will show you the code again in a few minutes as we go to break. we are learning a huge batch of contaminated johnson & johnson doses can be replaced in weeks. cnn reporting it is still on track to deliver 24 million doses by next month. it successfully produced 115 million of the doses but during a test run the company says it found a quality issue in one batch of 15 million vaccines and had to toss them. l.a. county will relax more covid restrictions starting today. it moved to the state's less restrictive orange covid-19 tier last week. that means places of worship, movie theaters, restaurants will be able to increase indoor services to 50% capacity. shops and other personal care services can open at 75%. >> i can see my customers, employees which obviously makes me super happy. >> bars that don't serve food can reopen outdoors only and

amusement parks can raise capacity from 15 to 25%. across the pond rapid covid- 19 tests will be available to everybody in england twice a week for free. that is set to start friday. boris johnson plans to announce the weekly testing push today along with plans to reopen the economy and relaunch international travel. that's progress. meantime, philipine government has extended a lock down there by another week. that comes after a spike in covid-19 infections that is starting to overwhelm hospitals in the area. metropolitan manilla and four out lying provinces are included in the extended lock down which is a region of more than 25 million people. turkey is seeing its sharpest spike yet of cases. it has now recorded more than 40,000 covid infections for the fourth straight day in a row. yesterday the country reported almost 42,000 cases and that

brings total number of infections to 3.4 million. 32,000 people have died, country's hospital bed occupancy is 54%. developing news out of indonesia, emergency evacuations as a cyclone causes deadly floods and land slides. crews have been using rubber dingies to get people to higher ground as quickly as they can. the storm has killed more than 70 people and dozens are missing now. rescue crews are trying to work around damaged bridges and roadways. the tropical cyclone is producing high waves, strong winds, heavy rain. the dangerous weather is expected to continue for days with the deluge hitting indonesia and possibly australia after that. 6:38. >> coming up on kpix5 and streaming on cbsn bay area, how a bowl of -- not quite sure what this is.

build project. let's head to gianna. she has her eye on a new trouble spot. highway 4, how is it looking? we are starting to see brake lights along highway 4 west bound. we have reports of a broken down vehicle in lanes but it looks like they're able to clear that quickly. nevertheless it is slow as you make the ride out of pittsburg into bay point, 242 towards 680, things getting sluggish, 33 minutes from antioch to the east shore freeway. altamont pass, busy west bound 580 out of tracy. getting onto 580, some brake lights, 47 minutes from 205 to 680. the ride out of san martin into morgan hill north bound 101, seeing brake lights as you work your way through. give yourself extra minutes if making the ride out of gilroy. bay bridge toll plaza is not bad. we are seeing okay conditions, no metering lights.

we did see brief delay at the toll plaza but that dissipated quickly. you will have a few brake lights across upper deck of the bay bridge near incline and as you approach treasure island. san mateo, 14 minutes between 880 west bound towards 101. crossing bay, heading to the peninsula, that's about how long it will take. once you are on 101, you won't have brake lights or issues. things have been quiet on 101 north bound headed towards sfo. no delays south bound 101 headed towards the golden gate bridge. good morning. we are looking at those clouds. you can see this on our sales force tower camera. we see the camera shaking a bit in the wind and those clouds in the sky. temperatures in the low 50s for many of us from concord, oakland, livermore, san jose, cool 42 in santa rosa.

10-mile per hour winds out of the west at sfo, 14 oak land, 20-mile per hour winds in fairfield, 12 in livermore. with the westerly winds, on shore flow, we have marine influence for today. the clouds in the sky with some areas of fog out there and as we head through the afternoon, we'll catch the clearing and some sunshine with daytime highs around where we should be for this time of year if not just a little bit below average. here is the satellite and radar view, on shore flow kicking in with those morning clouds, afternoon sunshine, near normal daytime highs. we have this cut off low pressure system that's going to stay offshore. so not bringing us the rain unfortunately. we can use it but we will stay dry over the next several days. hour by hour on futurecast, you see the sunshine through today, some clouds to start tomorrow and then afternoon sunshine with temps a little bit warmer expected for your tuesday. as we check daytime highs for south bay we go looking at 67

in santa clara, 68 san jose. this afternoon mid 60s forge morgan hill in the south bay, upper 60s for antioch and brentwood areas. as we look around the tri valley, mid 60s, 65 in livermore. around the bay 60 in san francisco, 59 daly city. east bay shoreline from oakland, alameda, san leandro 62 and north bay mid to upper 60s, 68 in napa later today and 68 windsor. the extended forecast and what you can expect, temperatures a bit warmer as we look to tomorrow. that will be the case as we look to the rest of the work week and the weekend. not a lot of variation here. steady temperatures with near normal daytime highs over next days and that sunshine as we look to our afternoon through the work week and into our weekend for saturday and for sunday. back to you. real estate agents in
