the first day of fall. [ cheers and applause of course, some people are sad that summer's over but good news, thanks to climate change it's not [ laughter and applause that's right we're entering that magical time of year where we put on old jackets hoping to find cash in the pockets [ laughter ] "some gum. let's get to some news after speaking here in new york city at the u.n. general assembly, president biden is back in washington and today he hosted world leaders for a virtual summit about covid yep. world leaders traveled 4,000 miles to new york just so they could zoom from their rooms at the best western [ laughter ] well, the summit lasted more than four hours, four hours. by the end everyone was fatigued everyone had body aches, sore throats. they we like, "wait, do we have covid? [ laughter ] but the big takeaway from the summit is that biden wants world leaders to fully vaccinate 70% of their population
and world leaders were like, "okay, you first." [ laughter and applause deal but this is good at the summit biden announced the u.s. is buying an additional 500 million doses of the pfizer vaccine to share with countries around the world each country will receive a basket with an injectable arrangement which is interesting. [ laughter ] that's right, the white house says they're gonna to start sending the doses in january seriously, january [ laughter ] countries are like, "if i sign up for government prime, can i get that tomorrow? [ laughter ] january, wow this is amazing. last night the winning ticket for the $432 million mega millions jackpot was sold a block away from our studio at pronto pizza [ audience ohs ] when asked what they'll do with $432 million, the winner siad, "hey, it's new york city, i'm gonna move from my studio to a a one bedroom. [ laughter ]
[ applause ] yeah pronto pizza [ applause ] and finally i saw that aston martin is selling a james bond car for kids and it costs $123,000. [ light laughter ] the kid who gets one is going to be like, "i'm a brat. spoiled, brat. [ laughter and applause we have a great show give it up for the roots tonight. [ laughter ] i didn't have any rehearsal at all. >> steve: no rehearsal with the sports no [ laughter ] >> jimmy: no, i mean - what i - [ applause ] >> steve: that's great >> jimmy: you start shaking -- i was like, mariano rivera, whose amazing, the greatest pitcher of all time. greatest relief pitcher of all time, was there and he kind of helped me out. you'll see tomorrow. he was a great guy -- i'll talk more about mario on friday but i kept thinking about quest because it's a lot -- i just kind of started shaking because i had never been that nervous in a while and there wasn't that many people in the stands still yet >> questlove: yeah >> jimmy: and so i was kind of happy not that many -- then i forgot it's broadcasted to millions of people and so i get up there and i go, "all right, so don't -- don't hit the dirt." that's the one thing and when you throw out a first pitch people that know you're throwing it out start sending you clips of bad pitches, and they go, "don't do this. [ laughter ] don't do this one or don't do that one," and i got 25 clips
of questlove throwing the ball and i go - [ laughter ] >> steve: from different angles >> jimmy: i'm joking i'm joking i'm joking definitely no. i'm joking yeah, so i get -- i do it and i go, just and then i go up to the mound and it seems further away than possible like when is the last time you threw anything 60 feet >> steve: never. >> jimmy: well - [ laughter ] >> steve: i can't even walk 60 feet without running out of -- >> jimmy: i had to throw a ball 60 feet. and i'm not an athlete these guys are professional athletes a lot of credit to the baseball players but i threw it and i was just kind of nervous even doing that i even like when i went back, i kind of rocked into it >> steve: mm-hmm [ laughter ] that's good. >> jimmy: i've never seen -- >> questlove: wait, do it again. do it again. >> jimmy: i did like a - ♪ honey bunch you know that i love you [ cheers and applause i can't help -- ♪ >> jimmy: i was doing -- you know, so i rocked -- i rocked into it too much to kick it out. >> steve: right.

[ cheers and applause >> jimmy: my next guest has spent the last 60 years studying and advocating for the environment. for climate week she launched a brand-new campaign called trees for jane here to tell us about it, please welcome dr. jane goodall [ cheers and applause ♪ >> jimmy: you look great thank you so much for being here, it is climate week now and i know you do so much to educate people - what are we focusing on right now? >> well, we're focusing on this campaign, trees for jane, which means every single person can get involved in planting a tree or supporting people who are planting trees or supporting people who very, very importantly are protecting our last fantastic rain forests. >> jimmy: yeah >> and that's maybe the most important thing because these trees are hotbeds of biodiversity they store masses of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
they give us oxygen we breathe they help to make rain they are really the most amazing ecosystems, in my opinion. >> jimmy: you have a book coming out next month called "the book of hope. what is giving you hope right now? >> young people unbelievable, our program for young people, roots and shoots 65 countries. and they're taking action and they're saying, this is our future and we're going to do something about it >> jimmy: that's what i'm talking about. >> and they are. >> jimmy: that's what i'm talking about.
