The Adult Reading Program, a project of the Mesa County Public Library District (Grand Junction, Colorado), involved recruitment, retention, coalition building, public awareness, training, rural oriented, basic literacy, collection development, tutoring, employment oriented, intergenerational/family, and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs. The project served a community of 50,000-100,000 people, and targeted the hearing impaired, learning disabled, mentally disabled, workforce/workplace learners, inmates of correctional institutions, adults reading below 6th grade level, seniors/older citizens, intergenerational/families, and ESL learners. Tutoring was done one-on-one and in small groups, using the Laubach and other methods, as suited to learners' individual needs. The project served 184 adult learners and provided 4,563 hours of direct tutoring service. The report provides a monthly summary of program activities, comparison of objectives and outcomes, personnel, comparison of expenditures to amounts allocated in original grant proposal, adequacy of resources, and cooperation and coordination with other agencies.
