Recorded live in the WXOJ studios at Valley Free Radio, Florence, MA with d.o., Glen, and special guests (see below), on 7/21/15.
Greetings
Earthlings. The struggle against Kinder Morgan’s proposed NED fracked
gas pipeline here in Western Mass is’t just about writing letters to
politicians, attending hearings and standing around with placards
chanting “We don’ need no stinking pipeline!!”. There are also artful
approaches to kickin’ KM’s corporate butt! Gus Ganley and Lindsay Swan of Children of the Wild Ensemble Theater join us and our roving reporter & troubadour Tom Neilson
in the studio to get creative about stopping this bogus project. Our
own d.o. may be up for a bit of spoken word as well, but then again he’s
always speaking words on the show, no? As usual, we’ll be taking you on
a visit to the Fool-on-the-hill and to The Enviro Show Echo Chamber,
maybe do some Breaking News as well, but first it’s time for……..Revenge
of the Critters! Going for a hike? Stay off the beaver’s lodge!
This week’s Fool-on-the-Hill is Exxon funded, Mississippi Repugnican senator Roger Wicker, who cast the single no vote
earlier this year against a symbolic “sense of the Senate” resolution
that climate change was real and not a hoax. The resolution passed 98-1.
Wicker, who received $14,000 from Exxon, voted no. Of course the vote
was simply more smoke & mirrors from the Land of Make Believe. The
sense of the Senate……wait! “sense?? Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha……(O, sorry) the
document also stated the Climate Crisis was not human caused. So much
for common ol’ sense.
Time for The Enviro Show Quote of the Week: “Trees are poems the
earth writes upon the sky, We fell them down and turn them into
paper, That we may record our emptiness.” ― Kahlil Gibran
In our E-Valley-uation segment we once again put out the call: ALL OUT! for the FERC Scoping session
on the environmental aspects of Kinder Morgan’s proposed NED fracked
gas pipeline aimed straight at the heart of our Valley. It’s Wednesday, July 29, 6pm at the Greenfield Middle School, 195 Federal St., Greenfield, MA. Bring
family & friends, signs & more noise! We don’t need no stinkin’
pipeline!! Also this: Congrats to Bill Gibson of Springfield for
getting a special “DEP hot line” to call night or day about toxic odors
from the Solutia/Eastman plant. Bill reports: “DEP sends a
representative to meet with the reporting folks and witness the smell,
every time they call…..again, day or night. Now……the smells have
stopped! We had hoped to “catch” Solutia/Eastman with DEP air monitors
and perhaps see them fined along with some negative media coverage. My
sense is that Solutia/Eastman now knows that DEP is involved, and they
have ceased releasing toxins.”
Breaking News time! Maine Public Utilities Commission
(PUC) concluded that Maine should not enter into contracts to purchase
gas pipeline capacity because the costs of doing so would outweigh the
benefits to Mainers! Massachusetts DPU, are you listening? Also this:
James Hansen’s latest study spells bad news for coastal cities. To the hills!
In The Enviro Show Echo Chamber we hear from Grist that Big Organic farming has some greenhouse gas issues.
All the more reason to keep at your gardening (and to frequent the
farmers market). And this: There are only 57 Javan Rhinos left in the
wild. Better have a look HERE. Speaking of critters in trouble, it’s time the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service listed the Monarch Butterfly. Go HERE to tell them, please! Look: the Monsanto Protection Act
is baaaaack (and worse than ever). Finally, we echo the Union Leader in
the Live free or Die state: It seems Kinder Morgan has shrunk the size
of its proposed NED fracked gas pipeline (maybe ‘cuz their outlook keeps
shrinking). Read about all about it!
After we get all arty with Gus, Lindsay & Tom it’s on to the Bus Stop Billboard.
That is all for now. Remember, while you’re out & about listen to your Mother, OK?
